    BUDDYMOON DAY 335/1000 (VLOG 81)
After spending a week in Karachi, Pakistan, it was time for us to leave for a new city in Pakistan called, Lahore. Lahore is further north and close to the Wagha-Attari border, the only international border between Pakistan and India.
We headed to Lahore via plane, as a bus ride would take 16 hours, and seeing that we are only spending 2 weeks in Pakistan this would take too much time. The Cheapest flight to Lahore from Karachi was with Air Blue, which was about $80 per person for a one-way ticket.
Once we arrived in Lahore, we called a taxi using the Careem app. This app is by far the best when looking for transport in Pakistan. Once getting the taxi at Allama Iqbal International Airport, we travelled through an area called CANTT and this is where things started to get a little uneasy.
We were stopped by the army as they wanted to see our passports. We handed them over (Keeping in mind that we had ALL the correct documents in order to be in Pakistan). After exchanging a few words, we had to give our passports to another officer who decided to KEEP our passports... and this is when we began to panic!! And to make matters worse, we had no idea what was happening as nobody could really speak English.
At this point, we were told to leave with the taxi while the army kept our passports. This was a big NO for us, we didn't want to leave our passports! But what choice did we actually have? Our Careem driver then explained to us that the area we were driving through is CANTT, meaning that this area was part of the military, and tourists are not allowed there. The driver had to make a U-turn to get out of the area, and once we got back to the military checkpoint, they return our passports.
It's moments like these where you become worried about what's happening due to the language barrier, but we also understand that the army is just protecting the area in order to make sure it's safe. We want Pakistan to be a safe place, not only for its people but for tourists as well.

There're army artillery there, not only the museum, along with army residences and some offices. That's an area designated for army. And no country allows others to go through the army areas.
Don't act stupid. No army designated in any country are open to locals or foreigners.
But yes it's Pakistan, so it's open for public normally.
Visit another country and try roaming freely in their high security army designated areas.

As a citizen of Pakistan, I would like to explain the situation regarding the military areas that are currently off-limits to tourists. Unfortunately, in recent times, terrorist groups have targeted military personnel in Pakistan, which has prompted the government to take strict security measures to protect its armed forces.
These measures include restricting access to certain military areas that may be vulnerable to attacks. While we understand that this may inconvenience tourists who wish to visit these areas, we believe that the safety of our military personnel is of utmost importance.
We want to assure tourists that Pakistan is a beautiful country with many attractions and cultural sites that are still accessible to them. Our government and security forces are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all citizens and visitors to our country.
We urge tourists to cooperate with the security personnel and adhere to their instructions when visiting Pakistan. By doing so, they will not only ensure their own safety but also contribute to the overall security of the country.
We hope that tourists will continue to visit Pakistan and experience its rich culture and hospitality while keeping in mind the security situation and cooperating with the authorities to make their trip safe and enjoyable.

Guys, you have misinterpreted a few things here. The route from Lahore airport to the Gulberg area takes you through the army cantonment area. They check every vehicle going through for security reasons. They have always done it but more during heightened security times. They are not doing it to intimidate you -- only checking. Secondly, the installation you noticed with helicopters is just a museum (Army Museum) and not a "base camp" or a military base. Cantonments are the relics from the British era.

I think because you were entering or exiting though the Army Cantonment area and the dumbass taxi driver should have told you to switch off your cameras as recording even by locals would have resulted in a stop and search. Foreigners for security reasons are not allowed in the Army Cantonment area.
Also, even if the soldier hadn't spotted you ONLY because you were recording and that sent red flags, Military Intelligence always follows foreigners for their own safety. They do not want a foreigner dying/getting injured on our soil so they would have radioed ahead anyways and had you turned back.
Foreigners are as safe in Pakistan as the Prime Minister because both are secured by Military Intelligence.
If they wanted to make you nervous, trust me you would be nervous. The Police on the other hand I would not trust, if you ever get stuck in a shady situation with them, tell them you will complain to Military Intelligence. Ask for their name, the police station they belong to. They will back off very quickly.

So it was kind of a guarantee you would turn around. It's not so much you they didn't trust, but the driver to follow instructions. They knew you would ensure he turned around with the passport in their possession. Drivers are known to take risks and put other people in trouble.
The other option was for them to send an Army car to escort you out ensuring you left the area which would have been less respectful.
