The greatest guitar solo of it's time, it had everything, even Hendrix was mesmerised by Cream. The interesting thing about this solo is if you learn to play it, it will teach you everything you can do on a guitar (apart from tapping and whammy bar techniques). It will teach you double stops, double bends, slides, hammer ons, pull offs, vibrato etc. I also believe this is the most complete solo Clapton ever performed, it's melodic, intense, fast, accurate, and had every single thing in it Clapton knew how to do at the time.Tim pays a nice homage to Clapton at the end of the solo, but Claptons end solo is incredible!

The weird thing is that Clapton didn’t like it. He said he screwed up the timing a couple of times. I agree with you though!

Actually Clapton was mesmerized by Jimi. Never the other way around. All pentatonic.ala 90% of Clapton.

This was the first song and solo I ever learned, and was back in 1986. The tablature arrived in a guitar player magazine and I just poured over it. I have forever been glad that I learned it, because everything else following wasn't too tough and paved the way for me to learn other player's guitar styles. After this song, I went deeply into Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and the three Kings.

I watch these and of course say "wow" like 99.9% of everyone else, but watching you teach makes things not only attainable, but much less frustrating...live forever! eagerly awaiting any material from you! thanks millions! Okay Tim, my guitar's in pieces having been thrown out the window, so what's next? I would run out of superlatives describing your demonstration of how to out Clapton the big 'E' but the greatest compliment I could give is how you really put yourself and joy into playing. There is a sublime love in there for what you do and that's what separates you from we lesser mortals who have enough problems simply getting the notes right never mind putting those subtle bends and beautiful, expressive tonality in with but a thought. The smile as you come down that blinding half blues, half country run before flying back up to the 12th fret is worth a thousand words. Thank you for being who you are. I have taken the liberty of looping your piece 4 times into a 6 minute track if that's okay although without the smile it isn't quite the same! Put that on a CD and I'd buy it like a shot. The sheer exuberance of your playing is a wonder to behold and an inspiration to so many. Thank you for being who you are.

Great playing! This helped me to find some missing licks. Just to add on what I'm hearing which your instruction helped me find....The lick at 8:55: instead of the A anchor note use F# (4th fret on D string).
F# A-F#-A C A D C A(pull off) C-C# (Hammer on) C#-A. I'm hearing a major phrasing in the beginning of that phrase and end. I think it's the F# before the A and a hammer on to the C# to end it but maybe it's in my head! Cheers!

Interesting how the way that intro is played sounds so much like the Beatles, who did a lot of melodic picking in addition to strumming.
Re: 'Pull off with your little finger.' Hmmm... Clapton uses his pinkie when chording but never when soloing, so doing that pulloff with that finger would likely be a challenge he would avoid. I was unable to find any video footage applicable to that specific moment, but possibly he used an alternative approach.
Cream were such an exciting band. Looking back it is understandable why. Clapton may have been the self-confessed weakest link, but with Ginger and Jack burning they way they did, he needed only to inject his Bluesbreaker licks into that turbulent undertow to create the magic they did.

Wow! What a GREAT player! This is my first exposure to one of your lessons. Your ability to break things down into understandable chunks is incredible! It would be easy to get completely LOST while trying to learn these licks, but you provide immediate clarity - and in such a concise manner. I'll be checking out more of your lessons soon. Thank you so much!

I've been watchin' you solo more than 20 times the last days, it's really honey for my ears.. Will try to tab and learn it, I know what to do with my guitar for the next months :-) Thanks again !

I have tried and failed a few times with this song but with your breakdown and style of teaching you made it a LOT simpler for me.
    Thanks!

Fantastic solo, Tim! BTW, the backing track was/is amazing, as a bass player, I have always admired Jack Bruce’s powerful work on “Crossroads”, all over the fretboard and rock-solid tempo… whoever played the bass on your backup track absolutely nailed that!

That was always one of my favorite Clapton songs. Truly, with so many to choose from it's hard to pick one.
Anyway, this guy nails it and I have a whole new appreciation for EC.
    Good job 👍
