In the course of a long - non musical, professional career I encountered pushy parents who tried to create a star professional out of their child. At best they achieved competence. To succeed at the level Alexander displays needs an inner spark, personal drive and level of commitment no external pressure can provide. Alexander shows he has everything he needs to make his natural talent propel him to a brilliant and long career.
I've been thinking for quite a while what makes Alexander so special. It's Not his pyrotechnics. Ignore them. I doubt they matter to him all that much but people get stuck on them. I still find it hard to pin down, but I know that his lyricism stands out. It's when he plays a note or a phrase that just sinks right into our hearts. The tone he evokes, the touch. The slight pauses that stretch out the suspense until the audience is just longing for he next note and it comes.......just at the right time. I don't think Alexander could do this unless he were, as one critic put it "in the skin of the music". It has a kind of magic and mystery that is beyond words.
Ya gotta love the criticisms of this young brilliant pianist--all couch experts undoubtedly. But, I gotta tell you this young lad is destined to be in the same ranks as Horowitz and other greats and it won't be the result of him paying any attention to you. He has access to the best of the best in Russia and still, ultimately, he will take that which serves him as an artist and discard everything else. This kid has heart, soul and an innate talent together with a work ethic that will take him to whatever heights he so chooses. Go get 'em, Alexander Malofeev!!!!!
@bill Bloggs ...you realize you're comparing a kid that's probably 20-something or less to one of the great living pianists, right? Give this kid some time to develop before putting him in hypotheticals like that, he's incredibly talented.
Carl Hopkinson Not to mention Gaspard de la nuit - arguably one of the hardest piano compositions ever - and Rachmaninoff’s 2nd sonata - another monster piece - immediately after.
It's just hazarding a guess, but from what he has said about the amount of time he devotes to the piano, he probably doesn't have anything left over for the girls.

the way he was so into it... from his posture to his face, he managed to always match the feel of it and omfg it had me hooked. and that precision is godly
His parents and teachers MUST address the growing curvature of his spine immediately. The "Dowager Hump" is an affliction that only gets progressively worse as time goes by. This leads to neuro-muscular issues that will affect his technique....tingling in hands... shoulders.. et. al. ...... Even greater problems in the future.! Please..this masterpiece of of an Artist must remain unstained for future generations of prodigies to come. Alexander Maloeev is wonderful. Our dying civilization needs Alexander Malofeev to guide us back to inspiration, sanity and sheer ....rapture !
I love how he doesn't give off a vibe of playing in a competition. It seems like he truly loves inhabiting pieces and playing the piano, which is lovely to see as well as listen to. My "one greatest composition ever" is often Gaspard de la Nuit, so that was a treat itself.
Such originality in fairly hackneyed pieces. I felt that I was hearing the Ravel for the first time! So refreshing! So many of the greatest pianists have played and recorded these 'warhorses' but few have captured my admiration so totally as this young man. Not only does he have a miraculous technique, but he is so creative and original in his playing. I ask myself - who does he remind me of? My answer to myself is - Nobody! He is unique.
"I felt that I was hearing the Ravel for the first time!" Yes! Alexander has a unique way of making that happen without doing violence to the music. Indeed, in any number of old standards, he makes us feel, "Oh, so THAT'S what that's supposed to sound like." His achievements are already beyond remarkable.
Thank you Alex for letting us listen to you play the Piano. I can just imagine you performing with a symphony. The future I know will be a journey for you with many wonderful memories. Bravo...
I know that I spam Malofeev's videos but as more time passes, it gets more evident that he is the next tier of performers. He is just so beyond everything I've heard so far. That includes the sonata. And trust me, with over 41000 records behind me, I've heard it all.

I have always wanted to hear the Rachmaninov just like this. Until now, whenever I have heard this piece it has never lived up to what I hear in my head and heart. So satisfying, just perfect.
His performance was magnificent and I'll be enjoying this one several more times. He has a promising career that I will be sure to follow. Bravo, Alexander Malofeev!
Alexander has utterly inhabited his pianism. He has integrated his own experience as pianist with the performance ethic of his mentors. This goes far beyond musicality or capability. His presence at the instrument so wholly realizes his understanding of the composition and composer that it is disarming, almost frighteningly so. This writer (a retired pianist) only wishes that Alexander would share some balanced performances of the Germanic composers -- in doing so, he will realize his rightful place as not only presenter but interpreter for the masses, who need both tension and release, both the dramatic tempered with respite. My experience with viewing Malofeev's performance videos rates among a handful of moments to remember: Gould, Horowitz, Baryshnikov, Pavarotti, Argerich. What a wonder.
Alexander plays with a freshness and spontaneity that makes one feel as if they are hearing these works for the first time. His Rachmaninoff Sonata #2 is even more electrifying than his earlier account during the Grand Piano Competition, and rivals Horowitz, in my opinion.
AFTER SO MANY TIMES in LISTEN to YOUR MUSIC , the WAY YOU PLAY it , YOUR INTERPRETATIONS , LEAVING the COMPOSER in PERFECT EXPOSURE , with so MUCH RESPECT ... YOUR FLAWLESS TECHNIC ... I STILL GET SURPRIZED with the ENDLESS SUPERIORITY and MODESTY of YOURS , BESIDES the INFINITE BEAUTY YOU GIVE SO ALTRUISTICALY . CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN , ALEXANDER .
@@penniesfromheaven9724 That is so true! In his performance of the Red Riding Hood piece (available here on youtube) he's sweating so profusely at the end of that performance that it is quite obvious he's inhabited the personae of both the wolf and the young girl trying to escape from the wolf. That's a performance that is remarkable in every possible way, and it will never, in my view, be improved upon.
To camilofuentes: Yes, he should work on this, as well as his extremely "impersonal" way of bowing (doesn't 'connect' at all with the audience). Lastly, it might be nice to see him dressed in something other that black shirt that he's been wearing for every performance since he was ten.

There's nothing better than getting lost in doing something you're so passionate about, the feeling you get from that time is irreplaceable. Criticisms can't even stand on the same stage.
I just come back from Alexander's concert in Segerstrom Concert Hall. He's amazing, superior performance.
I paused the video so his fingers and back can rest
and maybe take some herbs-juan bi tong for pain or even ren shen bai du san due to what looks like -in his complexion -deficiency, sorry I'm studying for my Board Exam while listening-it's a great help to me!
Ein unglaublich musikalisch-pianistisches Talent!
You're right, of course. I just hope that he also somehow finds the time for a satisfying social life.
STOP SEEING THE COMMENTS AND JUST HEAR THIS GREAT MAN ON THE PIANO
Thanks
Awesome performances! We are witnessing musical history in the making, transcendental pianism at the highest level.
@Ann Wright ...amen and amen!
His playing can make you cry.
Exactly, yes. You've said that much better than most of the rest of us. Thanks.
WOW you can really see when he finds his favorite phrases, the glee look on his face!! LOVE HIM!!!!
Playing Mazeppa in a major competition...that takes some major testicular fortitude.
@@Steinwaytoday I looked it up, he is only 17 years old!! Makes it even more incredible, doesn't it
Nina Van Wijk I guessed 18 :). Within 10%
And playing Gaspard doesn't??
He is extraordinary. He is a man playing with the passion of a man. A great pianist.
Him: *gets girls because he can play the piano like a beast*
His back: “are you sure about that?”
As my good old piano lessons mate was used to say, every piece needs a good fingering to be played, if you know what he meant
I am not quite sure if i am right, but 😂
I just died omg 🤣
It's just hazarding a guess, but from what he has said about the amount of time he devotes to the piano, he probably doesn't have anything left over for the girls.
@@thomasthompson6378 he also said in an interview that the piano is his true love.
Completely completely genius.
Malofeev is setting new standards in music. Mark my words.
We are so fortunate to be able to hear and see this remarkable pianist. Although really still a kid, he's already one of the greats.
Thank you Alexander Malofeev for sharing your God-given talent with all of us. You are my Number 1 choice in piano, the very BEST!!
yes
the way he was so into it... from his posture to his face, he managed to always match the feel of it and omfg it had me hooked. and that precision is godly
There's no other word to describe this than extraordinary.
His fingers work like magic, unbelievable performance
Absolutely love his playing. He's my #1.
Totally agree!
Absolutely unique...and amazing.
This young man can truly play anything and draws you into his performance each time you hear him!! Bravo!!!!
@Angela ...oh my gosh, that is exactly what I was thinking!! Simply mesmerizing!
This young pianist doesn't stop to surprise...
Simply amazing!
How come?????
A window into human and artistic potential. We are privileged to hear this. Thank you.
Thank you Alex for letting us listen to you play the Piano. I can just imagine you performing with a symphony. The future I know will be a journey for you with many wonderful memories. Bravo...
He's gifted and worked very hard and devoted . He's an inspiration to others who may follow.
First time seeing him and i already completely amazed by him, the talent he got is extraordinary
I know that I spam Malofeev's videos but as more time passes, it gets more evident that he is the next tier of performers. He is just so beyond everything I've heard so far. That includes the sonata. And trust me, with over 41000 records behind me, I've heard it all.
@Alan Potter What a great comment. (Netherlands)
@kaymohr5123.
To Alexander Malofeev, The "True-Hearted." Sasha, stay humble and faithful to your Father in Heaven, and He will continue to reward your faithfulness with greater perfection and precision, from your brain, clear down into your finger connections. Always put God first in your life, and He will give you the desires of your heart ❤. May you always continue to praise Him from your heart and inhabit Him through your music.
You are a great encouragement to me, now that I am 70. Life can be tough and mundane, taking care of my 88 yr. old husband, with little time to play piano. I praise God for putting the 💖 Sparkle in our mundane life, Sasha, and may God continue to bless and love all you touch!! Hugs to you!!

Malofeev is the best young pianist in their generation.
Yes, and -- without naming names -- I'd say he's already better than a good many older pianists.
BRAVO , ALEXANDER ! SO MUCH STYLE and so FLAWLESS !
Alexander has one of the most deliberate clean touches I have seen. So refreshing.
Mnogo, mnogo ti hvala.
Absolutely right. 🌷
Yes; I think you got that exactly right. My thanks.
Alexander plays with a freshness and spontaneity that makes one feel as if they are hearing these works for the first time. His Rachmaninoff Sonata #2 is even more electrifying than his earlier account during the Grand Piano Competition, and rivals Horowitz, in my opinion.
fantastic musician and incredible pianist !!!
Such precise playing all the while maintaining color and dynamics... what a beautiful performance!
CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN , ALEXANDER .
bruh his playing is amazing, no doubt, but his posture is killing my back
Glenn Gould 😎❤
@Camilo ...he only hunches when the music is mysterious. Check out his Red Riding Hood... you'll feel the wolf pounce on you! LOL
Alexander can truly play anything and make it his own!! Bravo!!!
Good piano, good composition make excellent performances Never did i imagine i could still view and listen for more wonderful playing of this young pianist, Alexander Malofeev. My heart leaps with joy, my soul rejoices. May your life gives the best of you as youdeserve all the stars and admiration of us who have known you, Alexander. Thanks so much i am able to witness and view your wonderful performances Alexander
Am grateful too for You Tube for uploading Alexander's performances which refreshes and makes life so meaningful and blissful
A remarkable and fierce warrior. Go on about perfection, memory and jury bias (yawn),but you miss the whole point about life energy. That instant when music grips your heart and shakes you to the core, that belongs in Alexander’s corner.
Yes!
A most beautiful pianist-flawless technique but such total feeling and absorbtion into the music- where does the the passion come from so one still still so young?
Well . . . it must come, of course, from some deep hurt. But we'll likely never know more about it.
Unbelievable playing in all respects!! Jaw-dropping performance!!
Absolutely flawless young pianist. So confident and entertaining
His playing of the Toccata gives me chills. It is just breathtaking! I just finished listening to Horowitz play it, and honestly I don't know which, if either, is better. I just hope and pray that I can continue to listen to Alexander's brilliance for a long time to come.
chills.it sounds like a virus link lol. Remember to give space after "."
Wow...the MAZEPPA...full of power and suspense...yet awesome beauty! Oh to be in the room when Alexander played it! Add to that Ravel's Gaspard! He has a way of completely BECOMING the music. What a gift to observe this performance!!
"becoming the music" Yes! He is so immersed that he becomes it. He goes to the depths of it. Happily, we can take the journey with him.
Unlike so many young pianists of this era, Aleksander is not competing with the music to be the star. For him the music is the star.
@@777rogerf That's exactly right; thank you for expressing it so eloquently.
❤ Totally agree! A Maestro... in Youth. We are blessed.... ❤
Alexander is a musical genius. His talent is superb.
This young man's ora radiates from within to the. Outskirts beyond the universe. Well done maestro. You a great inspiration to ALL AGES. From master to another in the arts. You inspire my spirit & beyond limited human understanding. The more I studied the more I realized the more work to comprehend there is much more to execute understanding. And you have the essence Bravo!! It takes courage and tenacity to experience the unknown. Much more than understanding. To be intertwined with not to be at the right impossible moments of the "zone " that many never achieve. You are beauty in motion. Thank you from San Diego California where the sun shines with your essence.
The ending to Gaspar de la nuit at 42:20 is so beautiful to me. It's instills me with a kind of curious uncertainty. And the way that Malofeev let's that last note ring makes it sound like it's a guitar harmonic or something. Truly awesome.
Legend! Makes the rest of us feel inefficient.
And here i am still trying to play twinkle twinkle little star :')
Practive, Practive, Practice - you'll make it someday (Maybe)
Hope so
lmao same im trying (and failing) to play chopin's nocturne in C# AND IM 14. like this dude is a mere 4 years older then me and he makes me shiver when i listen to him play. truly extraordinary
