I learned when I was self employed, that you have to pick your customers carefully. You only have so much time in a day, and a customer with unrealistic expectations not only costs you time, but money you could be making spending that time on something profitable.
Amen to this statement.....they want all the repairs done and then like oh yea im not gonna spend that...then they take somewhere else and see there price and wanna bring it back.
I worked for a small company that didn't say no to anything and it was fucking brutal some of the conditions of the equipment and the timelines to fix stuff was ridiculous, had to leave cause my boss (the owner) just didn't see the difference of quality over quantity.
When prospective customers start bad mouthing everyone that has ever done anything for them I send them down the road because they are nothing but a headache and you will never do anything good enough. Thanks for the rant!!!!! Great video!!!
I have used that saying for at least 60 years after I heard my dad use it when I was 10.. thought it was the funniest thing I had heard.. and then I grew up.. damn some peoples kids...
Once bitten twice shy. Best give that type of people the bird. Save you business and family. Greetings from Dublin Ireland bless you. Ps thanks for the ride around, beautiful countryside
If we could get politicians that have half the common sense you do Warren we'd be in good shape. Thanks for posting these videos after working every day.
Hahaha, actually that’s very funny, but I take exception to this.I was hard on my kids, even taught them what leather was, then I saw that wasn’t working,so for a giggle I got them to give them selves the licks, but that got even more funnier so I had to get cruel and turn off the electric internet so they can’t play their stuff but they got smart and downloaded the games,so they shorted me on that,ya know what?after 18 yrs I’m no further in front with educating these guys,I’ve tried it all.As a kid the beating done the trick for me,dad was god and you learned the fear of god.
I said for a few years now these smart phones and iPads are teaching kids to be dumber and dumber. It teaches them to lie and believe lies to. If the turned all the crap off it would only take a couple weeks and things would be lots better.
@@oldfarmer4700 I've said for yrs that the more we gain in technology to become smarter, we actually make ourselves more stupid. I'm not against technology, so long as it's used properly, today's world, just like you said, smart phones, iPads, etc. we've just made ourselves dumb. Cheers :)
Hope you had a good day Warren, I worked on the swing doors for the grain dump box I built just putts around for another lazy yet busy Sunday! Love watching those sky’s on your drive to your jobs for the day.
I got side tracked the other day when you were working on the auto steer. Trimble is great for dirt work, but the guidance ag systems are not up to par. And I think it’s because they are fairly new to the precision ag market. You can’t beat green star. You pay for it, but it’s worth it. We run Green star on 6 tractors, two cotton strippers and a sprayer. We have a good dealer with great service to, and that counts for a lot.
Warren, I am a shade tree mechanic at best and not a professional like you. Enjoy your videos very much. A while back I had an electrical connection issue and someone on youtube mentioned dielectric grease like you did in this video. I did some research on the internet about dielectric grease and everything I found said dielectric grease is an insulator. Then I searched for conducting grease and found anti oxide compound (electricians call it oxide paste). This stuff is used in electrical connections, especially when using aluminum in the connection, it prevents corrosion or oxidation formation which creates an insulating barrier and it conducts electricity. I use this stuff whenever I have an unsoldered connection and the results are very good. You can buy this at electrical supply houses and I got mine at Lowes. I would like to hear your thoughts on this matter because I respect your opinion.
Still my hero Warren. One of the guys that fixes the machine that the other guy uses to grow the food that the other guy turns into... another paragraph; and dinner. Stay safe and thank you as always.
Time 2 clean your windshield lmao.....I had to say it because I heard you mention it on one of your video's. Loving your video's. You are the #1 mechanic on TH-cam in my book.
Don't be to hard on the fella with the truck.. it is hard to find good honest men to do work for you these days.. especially mechanics.. I have tried in my old age to find one since it is hard for me these days to do a lot of the work myself.. I have come to the conclusion that in Vancouver Washington there are no such things as trust worthy and knowledgeable mechanics.. So no matter how much pain it causes me and extra time it takes if I want it done right and for a reasonable price I must continue to do it myself.. Or.. you could just have him sent to California Sounds like that is where he is from anyway.. I truly appreciate you making these videos.. They always bring me back to a better time in my life.. well, maybe not better.. but when my world was still filled with promise.. Carry on brother.. these are great videos..
Started an auto repair in 71. A few people walked in and indicated they knew I'd screw them, but they're car needed repair. I told them it did (I didn't) work like that! I'd decline their offer, and they could keep driving, with an attitude like that. They never did bust that front door glass, to my surprise. It got slammed real hard a few times.
Warren, along with those who will trip over a dollar to get a dime do not forget about those who are 'ever since you repaired the front wheel seals the hitch has not worked correctly'.
Dr. Phil once asked a couple- "when YOU are not home, whos NOT watching your children?" You may love what you do, workin on machines all the time, but you might ask yourself- What am I missing out on? Your right- the world never stops spinning, but theres a whole nother world out there! I sure appreciate ur vids!! Thank you!
The culls we fed the cows here in nw washington, the number 3's, those same ones are sold in mexico for number 2's. I imagine the growers over there raise a lot of russets for frito lay.
How many hours on that EGR valve. A lot of the world works on weekends, somebody keeps the electrical power plant running and the refineries. The doctors, nurses, firefighters, police and ambulance EMT. The food service industry, from the farmer to the restaurant work a 24 /7 schedule. Be Blessed and enjoy life. Your right about the truck customer.
Great analogy. He was willing and able to wait a month for the part, but once he has it, the world has to stop. Hey, as long as he gets what he wants, no one else matters. It's all about me. I can't stand those people and there are more like it every day.
I work in automotive repair so I know what you mean. I'll work seven days a week during the spring, summer and fall. Because I know there won't be much in the winter.
I finally got a five day a week job, but I rather have my every other weekend schedule. That I can get more accomplished during the week and weekend. But I bet them other people don't work on holidays either. I have worked both schedules, but when it comes down to keeping the farmer who are putting food on the table, not only for you but everyone else, then I am sure the Lord understands. And it makes it easier to pay bills also.
Just watching a few of your videos with regards to protective gloves and how easy they rip. What i used to do whilst in the Air Force was use leather flying gloves, they're quite thin and are good to use as engineers glove, what i would then do was wear the rubber gloves underneath so as to stop oils etc getting into my skin. Sure the leather soaks up oils etc but i have yet to find an all rounder PPE that doesn't rip and is thin enough to maintain dexterity. The flying gloves are green, they were issued to the British Air Force but i'm not sure what the USAF use, anyway, i hope this is of help
First off, thanks for the road trip. I always like to hear what's going on in other parts of the country. Did not know all the diary folks where leaving California, sad the way liberal's think. Not trying to ride you, but the windows where so dusty it was hard to see the diary farms. To answer your question " who do you take care of first," well that's easy, the people. That's the farmers who grow the food that feeds the nation. Don't second guess that!
Nice work Warren, keep the customer that pays the bills. I completely understand the guy that needs it done now. But I don't think you'll need to about your loyal cliental.
At the Deere dealership I work at we get customers that call multiple times a day asking about there equipment and you work late to get it done for them then when it's done they wont pick it for a week, it can definitely be frustrating.

Another great video Warren 😁, look forward seeing them.. nice camera.. what kind is it if you don’t mind me asking
and thanks to all the farmers for the food.
