Great video as always. I was just wondering though were the vr mod for return to Castle wolfenstiein for pcvr. I thought the mod was only available to quest users. I dont suppose u have a link or can direct me were to look. Thanks in a advance.

I remember playing the game in highschool. Be some major nostalgia playing it in vr. However iver never gone the zuck route and never will based on facebooks practises as a mind rotting disinformation platform and completely anticompetitive nature. So pc vr only for me. I must say resident evil omg I am so excited for this. Re7 was made for vr the Dec's teased for so long they were going to have pcvr for it So glad Moddershall took the reigns . These dedicated mofos are the best. Cant wait until unreal engine 5 starts being utilised in game development. If games developers start using nanits for all of there 3d objects as a standard. The resolution that could be achieved while minting a high frame rate could potentially be game changing. If u haven't seen how nanite works u should check it out. Essentially it priorities the polygons on the screen so the computer renders everything in the foreground in uhd her and stuff in the far ground use less polygo s. So the over number polygons on screen is quite constant. Creating a smoother experience. Personally I feel this could potentially be a game changer in vr Oh also s&box the new garrys mod for vr/flatscreen OMG is that going to be amazing for vr modders. The ultimate modding playground

I would LOVE a VR remake of Condemned: Criminal Origins and it's sequel, Bloodshot! They were amazing first person horror/detective games on the 360 and they had brutal melee combat, and that combined with the 1st person view would both be perfect for VR!!
Oh yeah... i remember those games on 360. I never did beat them but i remember being pretty blown away until something else pulled my limited attention span in a different direction.
I wish 3rd person games would come with a VR mode, with just a head look option. I don't mind using a controller. VorpX works really well in this regard but having the option to switch to a VR mode like Star Wars Squadrons would be appreciated and allow a lot more growth in the VR market. Would be nice to see a major engine like UE5 come with this feature out of the box.
Yup, third person games work surprisingly well. Edge of Nowhere is a great example of a made for VR third person game. I was hoping to see more released tbh.
@@hoihoi13 I don't mind full motion VR games, their my favorite games now actually. It's just that I got a HP Reverb G2 and the resolution is high enough to play any game using a headset now and the headsets coming out next will be cheaper and even higher resolution. Just a little native headlook support for games like Gears of War, The Witcher 3 or Death Stranding. Any 3rd person game would work really.
@@Okanekaseku What I'm saying is it doesn't need to be a binary choice between one or the other if we could simply activate VR mode for full 3D out of the box. When 3D TV's had their 15 minutes, there were several games that had a 3D option and that feature is still present in the sequels they made. The Foundation Engine used for the new Tomb Raider and Deus Ex games is a good example of this. It wouldn't prevent anyone from buying native VR games, if anything it would increase VR adoption and allow for more VR games to be made.

I have been following them for quite some time now and I'm surprised each time they announce a new mod!
Pray for the gods looks dope. Quite honestly sometimes I prefer a VR game with gamepad. When I just want to sit down, relax but still feel that immersion. Great vid. A few others I’ll have to check out too.
Good overview. Just one cool title missing is NomaiVR (Outer wilds) which’s is actually free in opposite to the two forks vr (firewatch) mod, which is patreon exclusive (but a really good vr mod, absolutely worth it) but from the same maker. Pray for the gods is patreon exclusive too. Just saw: you got outer wilds on the list, but maybe cut it from the vid?
Agree was expecting Outerwilds to get special mention as the best Mod I’ve played. Praydogs RE stuff is great but Raicuparta’s outerwilds was the best so far.
Wow, tons of sick content in this video. I had no idea about most of these! I've been meaning to play the RE2 remake for a while now, maybe having my first experience with it in VR is the right way to go.
Seems like for the upcoming few years we'll have to rely on mods if we want actual full games to enjoy in VR, can't wait for that L4D2 VR mod! still hoping to see a S.T.A.L.K.E.R VR mod...
@@relaxingrain8395 I was hoping after the fall would be the l4d2 VR, but it doesn't have the same feel and no infected vs survivor pvp. I didn't know there was a mod in development for l4d2 but that's awesome because back 4 blood was also kind of a letdown
A game that I recently started playing that I could see being fun in VR is one called Nightmares Of Decay, although idk if it’d work well due to the ways it intentionally makes the game click y (like slowing down your movement when in combat from what I’ve played), a horror game called “It Steals” would be fun in VR, and motion controls wouldn’t be that hard to add due to the simplicity of the game, and one I don’t believe is possible (due to the game being made on the developers custom engine), but would be cool is Teardown. Edit, a couple others that would be cool, but probably aren’t possible due to being made on older engines are F.E.A.R and Thief The Dark Project.
I need the Portal VR mod to happen, i dont even want to hear about the nausea factor, im several years into VR and my gut is gud, I want to experience something that intense in all its glory...... Also excited for L4d2 mod...🤗
Your video literally opened a new door of vr gaming for me man, i didn’t enjoy motion control and horror games but unluckily most vr titles tend to be in that genre. Never knew these pc mod and man this week I bought cyberpunk,mafia, RDR2 and dmc5 and have been playing them non stop. God they are everything I wanted for a vr game, sitting comfortably on my sofa with a controller just enjoying being in game of the scale and atmosphere! I’m surprised that these type of mods are not more talked about in Reddit or TH-cam etc.. it’s truly amazing experience.
Just went through the Alien Isolation VR and it's amazing. I only wish I haven't played through that game 3 times before bc it would have been truly terrifying. Didn't know there was a Below Zero mod already out. I gotta try it and can't WAIT for HL2.
SkyrimVR is S tier, but only with mods (the 3 most important ones being VRIK, HIGGS & PLANCK which add physics based combat and interactions & replace the floating hands with your actual player model). (Yes I'm aware that it's technically its "own" game and wouldn't fit in this video, but Bethesda basically just made a VR mod and slapped it unto an old fork of the Skyrim Special Edition and sold it as a separate game)
Mods are keeping PCVR alive right now. Actually, I like AAA games modded better than the native indie built for VR games. This video got some FLAT games added to my wishlist. Thanks Matteo.

TH-cam "Brutal Doom VR" A game from 1993 is still one of the best VR experiences I've ever had. Don't turn on autorun unless you have your VR legs, though.
the cyberpunk2077 mod is actually incredible once you get it all tweaked right. ironically turning down a few key graphic settings makes it BETTER in the headset. more clean, crisp.. more convincing :)

against motion sickness: - steamVR has some "games/tools" against this, mostly limiting your peripheral vision (while moving fast, like GoogleEarthVR does by default) but with more direct control on how much. - steamVR has a "game/tool" for wheelchair bound people, to be able to "simulate standing+walking+rotating" in all games, that lack that function by default (like NomaiVR)". Because intentional Sitting greatly diminishes motion sickness. This does not work well for any game that has a "tool-belt-inventory" or that need you to pick up often from directly below you (like NomaiVR) . - reshade may (soon) have some simple fast shaders, that add a nose to VR, which tends to GREATLY diminish motion sickness. This seems to work better for google-cardboats like VR, by the methods that reshade uses.
Super excited for Half-Life 2 in VR and cautiously optimistic for Deep Rock Galactic. From what I've seen the DRG mod looks really good. But the verticality, and digging in that game could be awkward in VR, and not for the clastrophobic.
Jedi Knight in VR!? Say no more! *hits like and leaves to find it immediatelly Edit: No idea at all how to make that work. Instructions were rather unclear but I tried to follow to the letter. No idea how to launch it in VR it just opens normally.
Looks like you missed the Minecraft VR mod 'Vivecraft'. Its free, full motion control and it takes a decent PC to run it. Also it doesnt actually require a vive, I played on a quest 2 with virtual desktop and it ran just fine.
imo The Rank S mods are the only ones worth checking out. No motion controls while in VR, is a no for me (Unless its a driving game like Dirt Rally 2.0 or Assetto Corsa where you'd be using a wheel to drive anyways).
Would like to see open spades in vr. It's a niche game. Best described as Minecraft with guns. I'd love to build cover or tunnels while shooting enemy's in vr.

Mistake alert: The Jedi Academy mod does not have motion controls. There is a version of Jedi Outcast with motion controls but it causes problems with the AI. Unfortunately these mods haven't been updated in 5 years.
The AI right now expects you to be at the center of your playspace. You'll need to currently make sure your playspace is calibrated and you're playing there and returning to the center after inspecting something in 6DOF, etc.
There's also SCP Labrat, basically SCP Containment Breach but in VR and full motion controll. It's like a bit scarier for experienced, yet way more fun
HUGE VR NEWS!! Master modder @praydog has been continuing work that @TheNewJavaman started by porting much of his RE Engine Framework to Unreal Engine even if the game doesn’t have VR plugins. This is one of the most exciting things to happen in the VR Modding scene because it could mean VR mods for HUNDREDS of incredible AAA Unreal Engine games in full VR. The mod features full in-engine 6DOF movement, synced eye stereoscopic 3D, detached look from weapons and more! Though designed to work universally with UE4 games, it’s also a fantastic starting point for other modders to build off of to add in full motion controls, etc. There’s no release date yet, but get ready for some VERY exciting times ahead of us in the wonderful world of VR modding!
GTFO is absolutely bone-jarring even for me. 250 hrs beating down cannibals in The Forest. I love that hammer! the maps are crazy big in person. the fog on the floor looks crazy real.
My favorite flat to VR list. The Forest /Motion, full head tracking, Physical combat. PayDay2 / simple hand controls, head tracking. Elite Dangerous/ full game, full HOTAS, Full controller support. Serious sam / head tracking, hand tracking. GTFO/ Full tracking, full game access. I haven't tried to many more these titles keep me busy.
While no motion controls is "ok" for a free mod, I honestly don't really consider that for VR at all. How you play in VR is half the reason (or more) to the immersion of playing that way. That's how it can really change it up. Racing / flight games being the only exception, where a wheel / joystick / controller will do.
a late word to mods you mentioned at the start, no motion control. i tried RDR2 and Horizon zero dawn. Problem at both native 3rd person games is, that you are dependent to see whats behind you. But the mods are in first person and you dont see shit whats behind you. In fights against multiple enemies is death not to evade because you simply dont see it coming.
Another mod you missed I strongly recommend is "The Dark Mod VR" It's a "Thief" inspired mod for DOOM 3 and has 100's of fan made missions.... It comes stand-alone and is FREE....
Surprised you didn’t include the vive craft mod for Minecraft as it has full motion controls, multiplayer, and also just a pretty good port. There is also a mod for quest now to play Minecraft but I haven’t played that one. Good to see a lot of ports I haven’t heard of though on this list
God damn, dude! You're costing me a fortune! I'm going to have to hand over a lung or two to Steam. Nah, seriously, those are all great games with mostly great mod support. Some others I'd like to see is an official Bioshock collection, any and all Far Cry games, Watch Dogs Legion, Sports Champion 1&2, Resistance Trilogy, Mod Nation Racers, Last of Us 1&2, Killzone 1-3, Halo series, Motorstorm, ect...
I'm excited for the HL2 VR mod, I haven't touched VR in more than year but that will definitely make me go back, tho I hope I don't need Garry's mod to run.
I don't mind paying for a VR mod but I think it should be a one time pledge and from then on you get all updates for that game. Almost all games continuously get updates and a lot of the time the updates break the VR mod and you have to pledge again to keep using it. I ended up spending almost twice what I originally paid for RDR2 because of this and can't even use the mod now. Money almost completely wasted. I won't ever do that again.
Just pirate it. I paid once and now I pirate. I will probably pay a second time though, more and more games are being made compatible with the real VR mod.
Wait... is Nintendo the one modding BotW? If not, better grab it as soon as it drops. They're mercilessly litigious when it comes to ANYONE but them messing with their titles. Great video, Matteo; I couldn't argue with the tiering of any of the titles, much as I loved some of them. I only wish some the still existent publishers had the cash and/or inclination to do native versions that wouls allow for the proper use of controllers, or tone down some of the sea sickness that I can definitely be prone to. Then again, I notice you (rightly) didn't include Hitman on your list, so maybe the studios should just give dedicated VR modders the permission and tools to do it for them.
@@Gamingwithmatteo311, that would be SOOO cool! I literally bought the series because it was supposedly "supported" for VR by the developer. Honestly, it's not horrible... but it's pretty bad in way too many ways. If the usual suspects do as well on it as they have on many titles, it should at least move from "barely okay" to "great" (as opposed to "awesome").

It is out and works fairly well. the guns are one-handed but they work.
L4d2 in vr sounds like it could either be fun or an absolute nightmare

The concept of "modding" must be shown more and more, it will be an integral part of VR!
Wish there were some open world driving VR games line Forza horizon.

A game from 1993 is still one of the best VR experiences I've ever had. Don't turn on autorun unless you have your VR legs, though.
the cyberpunk2077 mod is actually incredible once you get it all tweaked right. ironically turning down a few key graphic settings makes it BETTER in the headset. more clean, crisp.. more convincing :)

against motion sickness:
- steamVR has some "games/tools" against this, mostly limiting your peripheral vision (while moving fast, like GoogleEarthVR does by default) but with more direct control on how much.
- steamVR has a "game/tool" for wheelchair bound people, to be able to "simulate standing+walking+rotating" in all games, that lack that function by default (like NomaiVR)". Because intentional Sitting greatly diminishes motion sickness. This does not work well for any game that has a "tool-belt-inventory" or that need you to pick up often from directly below you (like NomaiVR) .
- reshade may (soon) have some simple fast shaders, that add a nose to VR, which tends to GREATLY diminish motion sickness. This seems to work better for google-cardboats like VR, by the methods that reshade uses.

Super excited for Half-Life 2 in VR and cautiously optimistic for Deep Rock Galactic. From what I've seen the DRG mod looks really good. But the verticality, and digging in that game could be awkward in VR, and not for the clastrophobic.
Outerwilds VR is an amazing experience made by the same creators of the Firewatch VR mod

Looks like you missed the Minecraft VR mod 'Vivecraft'. Its free, full motion control and it takes a decent PC to run it.
Also it doesnt actually require a vive, I played on a quest 2 with virtual desktop and it ran just fine.
imo The Rank S mods are the only ones worth checking out. No motion controls while in VR, is a no for me (Unless its a driving game like Dirt Rally 2.0 or Assetto Corsa where you'd be using a wheel to drive anyways).
VR would be the perfect platform for the Immersive Sim genre.

Mistake alert: The Jedi Academy mod does not have motion controls. There is a version of Jedi Outcast with motion controls but it causes problems with the AI.
Unfortunately these mods haven't been updated in 5 years.
The AI right now expects you to be at the center of your playspace. You'll need to currently make sure your playspace is calibrated and you're playing there and returning to the center after inspecting something in 6DOF, etc.
There's also SCP Labrat, basically SCP Containment Breach but in VR and full motion controll. It's like a bit scarier for experienced, yet way more fun

Master modder @praydog has been continuing work that @TheNewJavaman started by porting much of his RE Engine Framework to Unreal Engine even if the game doesn’t have VR plugins.
This is one of the most exciting things to happen in the VR Modding scene because it could mean VR mods for HUNDREDS of incredible AAA Unreal Engine games in full VR.
The mod features full in-engine 6DOF movement, synced eye stereoscopic 3D, detached look from weapons and more! Though designed to work universally with UE4 games, it’s also a fantastic starting point for other modders to build off of to add in full motion controls, etc.
There’s no release date yet, but get ready for some VERY exciting times ahead of us in the wonderful world of VR modding!
GTA V in VR is incredible. All I did was walk around and mess with the NPCs.
GTFO is absolutely bone-jarring even for me. 250 hrs beating down cannibals in The Forest. I love that hammer! the maps are crazy big in person. the fog on the floor looks crazy real.

The Forest /Motion, full head tracking, Physical combat.
PayDay2 / simple hand controls, head tracking.
Elite Dangerous/ full game, full HOTAS, Full controller support.
Serious sam / head tracking, hand tracking.
GTFO/ Full tracking, full game access.
I haven't tried to many more these titles keep me busy.

While no motion controls is "ok" for a free mod, I honestly don't really consider that for VR at all. How you play in VR is half the reason (or more) to the immersion of playing that way. That's how it can really change it up. Racing / flight games being the only exception, where a wheel / joystick / controller will do.
Maybe this blessed list can make me forget the idea of selling my Quest 2.
a late word to mods you mentioned at the start, no motion control.
i tried RDR2 and Horizon zero dawn. Problem at both native 3rd person games is, that you are dependent to see whats behind you. But the mods are in first person and you dont see shit whats behind you. In fights against multiple enemies is death not to evade because you simply dont see it coming.
A portal vr mod would be sick but not great cause of launching your self with portals would give you motion sickness

Another mod you missed I strongly recommend is "The Dark Mod VR" It's a "Thief" inspired mod for DOOM 3 and has 100's of fan made missions.... It comes stand-alone and is FREE....
Surprised you didn’t include the vive craft mod for Minecraft as it has full motion controls, multiplayer, and also just a pretty good port. There is also a mod for quest now to play Minecraft but I haven’t played that one. Good to see a lot of ports I haven’t heard of though on this list

Some others I'd like to see is an official Bioshock collection, any and all Far Cry games, Watch Dogs Legion, Sports Champion 1&2, Resistance Trilogy, Mod Nation Racers, Last of Us 1&2, Killzone 1-3, Halo series, Motorstorm, ect...

I don't mind paying for a VR mod but I think it should be a one time pledge and from then on you get all updates for that game. Almost all games continuously get updates and a lot of the time the updates break the VR mod and you have to pledge again to keep using it. I ended up spending almost twice what I originally paid for RDR2 because of this and can't even use the mod now. Money almost completely wasted. I won't ever do that again.
Just pirate it. I paid once and now I pirate. I will probably pay a second time though, more and more games are being made compatible with the real VR mod.

Great video, Matteo; I couldn't argue with the tiering of any of the titles, much as I loved some of them. I only wish some the still existent publishers had the cash and/or inclination to do native versions that wouls allow for the proper use of controllers, or tone down some of the sea sickness that I can definitely be prone to.
Then again, I notice you (rightly) didn't include Hitman on your list, so maybe the studios should just give dedicated VR modders the permission and tools to do it for them.

@@Gamingwithmatteo311, that would be SOOO cool! I literally bought the series because it was supposedly "supported" for VR by the developer. Honestly, it's not horrible... but it's pretty bad in way too many ways. If the usual suspects do as well on it as they have on many titles, it should at least move from "barely okay" to "great" (as opposed to "awesome").
