Have you considered adding some live plants to help with water filtration? It's a good way to increase the o2 levels in your water and improve the life of your filter
Raising the water level would definitely provide them with more swimming space and make them happier. Overall, I'd say the setup is pretty professional and nice :)))
This is significantly better than what I had as a kid. I had a softshell and a red eared slider in a single tank with probably only 15g of water. I did not stock or set up the tank but I imagine that is a bad idea. I want to do a proper planted tank with some small fish and a soft shell turtle.
Could you please do a full-on in depth video of what filter you’d recommend, the temperature of the water/basking area, oxygen requirements, substrate you use and how hard/easy it is to maintain the cleanliness of the tank and water changes..etc. There’s nota lot of videos/info about these guys and it’d jus be nice to refer to your videos every month, rather than read a bunch of stuff..
my spiny soft shell was far from dumb. i would put his food on his floaty pad or in the water around it and he never missed a beat. i could also hand feed him if he was on his floaty basking. he would even take the rocks in his aquarium and redecorate. like to the point where i had a friend in particular who got me a bunch of flat rocks because he wanted to make a nice setup for my turtle but a few days later when said friend came back he was like bro why did u change the tank setup i thought u liked it. i told him i did but Turtltin (my spiny softshell) didn't.
Hey man I caught 2 babies your size and I'm trying to get them to eat. The smaller one will eat crickets I know that. But the lil bigger one won't eat anything I've witnessed. I've tried crickets, dried mealworms, nightcrawlers, redworms, turtle pellets, dried baby shrimp and minnows!! Maybe he eats when I dont see? I dunno. I've grown up catching animals and caring for them, my whole life and I'm not sure what else to try. Any tips?
I had a cave in there and I took it out to give them more room, they don't really need a cave and they actually kinda have one because they sometimes go up under the basking area
Wack, mine bonded to me in about 2 months, also for feeding i recommend a small clear empty tub with an inch of water. This way they cant miss their food and wont take in any sand in case the food sinks
yea mine let me pick him up and hold him and even play with him. tho he was still cold hearted. he would slowly kill all my cichlids off 1 by 1 lol. had to use a modified square fan shroud eventually so the fish could have a safe section like a reverse prison cell keeping people/tutles locked out lol.
Omg, as a red eared turtle lover and caretaker, do I know what you mean about how slow and little they eat!!! And if there's no variety, they won't eat ! they get sick of stuff quickly. And you'll think, hey, if they get hungry enough they'll eat what u give them, but no. Lol. I have a huge tank and two 8y/o, female, red eared sliders. I give them hours of floor time each day and they spend it hanging with their 8 cat housemates.
Let me know what you think of my setup and how i could improve it.
what brand of sand did you use

A planted tank with the softshells would be amazing. I really want to do that one of these days.
I want a soft shell so bad.
Which company white sand do you use.?

Where’d you buy the sand? How much?...
how big do they get?
We enjoy the soft shells in our lake. We have a few giant soft shells. One we call Big momma. She easily weighs 20-30 pounds.
COOL I love softshell turtles!!! They look weird and cool...

You setup is good no reply🤩
Thanks!
Also, you should provide a place where they can hide. Like a turtle cave...

Man you need to do an above the tank basking platform. They need that tank full of water
Thats what I've been thinking about doing
@@PFFishing I would, it's very simple. The turtles absoltley love it cause they get tons of swimming room
Yes I agree with you because I have also h soft shell turtle
What do they eat?
Fish and water insects, chicken , wheat flour
Sir, a SoftShell turtle need an plank for them to climb if you put the plank already put a food on the plank to not get water dirty.
I know this video is 2 years old but hopefully you see this comment…
What type of filter do you use for your sand substrate?
Hey can u please help me, i have the same softshell turtle but she only hide
There so cute
What does it eat I just found one and I’m trying to take care of it could someone reply back and inform me
I've always alternated between some type of meat like krill, shrimp, fish, mealowrms, and then some type of pellet
