- Best Soft shell turtle aquarium set up, including the food pan set up for basking and burying. Soft shell turtle enclosures, sand port and basking area. More useable space for both Map Turtles, Red Ear Sliders, and Soft Shell Turtles. Gives both turtles lots of room for swimming. Very easy to clean by sliding the tray. Easy to make turtle tank set up that's inexpensive. (Turtles were purchased from Back Water Reptiles Inc.)

I love how the soft shell acts. One of my turtles will climb up our rock piece that has the filter inside it and he loves to just jump off it. It’s hilarious and annoying.

Oh god, both of them are cute! they're just like my turtles Nari(RES) & Sofitel(SoftShelled). At first I didn't want to buy a softshelled coz it might not get along with my RES but when I first saw Sofitel peeked his head up from the sand at the petstore I just fell in love. And I'm glad I bought him. He get along with Nari quiet well, and it's really cute whenever they bask together. Sometimes he's on top of Nari sometimes they're aligned on the log. :)
how much and how big was sofitel? had mine caught in the river and kept it as pet his name is Pong and was very agressive.

I have A map turtle AND a softshell aswell, mines a spiney female softshell!!
It looks to me like it would be easy for turtles to escape from the tank.
Soft shells don't typically leave water
Dude....the first day I brought my softshell home...she found her way DOWN TWO FLIGHTS OF STAIRS! I was lucky I found her!

@@PRIME.EXE_ They do. I found out the hard way when my huge spiny soft shell threw itself six feet to its death. Some cute red eared slider shawty ain’t want him, he got all in his mood.😢.
For real, though- I tried a few times to keep that particular spiny and a few hatchling Florida soft shells in a huge all aquatic setup with a similar sized alligator snapper. The soft shelled turtles were always jumping out, like tri weekly.
So- yeah, they are totally going to jump out of this setup, it is inevitable. It’s also waaay too small, well done, but too small. Those two animals are going to need at least a 75, bare minimum.
PS- Tankmates: Cichlids are great, larger oddballs, DEFINITELY large bottom dwelling cleanup crew catfish, silver dollars, and red(not black) pacu if you own a lake. Cheers.
I’d be curious to see the current day set up. I’ve had my soft shell for about 6 years now and she will outgrown even my biggest tank.
If you really wanna spoil a turtle get a 300 gallon stock tank or bait tank much cheaper than aquariums and you just hang the lights or make a chicken wire/wood lid idk if you still need to know this

Broo you need way more sand for that softshell that is completely submerged, but this is a great setup besides that.

Dude would you have any idea what the white hair like algae is on my baby soft shell turtles? They are only about 1 inch diameter and i have had them for about 2 months. They are now covered in white fur like stuff???? They are still totally active and eating as normal. This white stuff is all over their faces, necks & feet. its not on the shell...any advice would be good..Thanks

I changed afterwards to stainless steel wire hangers. Much better.

She doesn’t escape?!?! One of mine climbed out twice without top covered around entire rim.
She never even tried to get out. She gets excited for me to rub her shell when I get home from work. She's like a puppy!!

How can you tell the different gender on a spiny softshell
Females are considerably larger than males
The spot patterns. Females have a mottled pattern. Males have circles. Females grow much larger.
Also the females have really short tails that dont go past the back of their shell.

The lip edge is just enough that that they can't get out. I've never had one escape.
