Aerial Greatsword is what carried me through my first playthrough of this game. The strategy is to spam jumping charge attacks on the monster. The launch off the monster gives i-frames, and you'll be up high so often that most monster attacks will completely miss you. You'll be able to mount monsters 2 or 3 times per hunt. If you find yourself accidentally jumping over the monster while trying to do this, then discipline yourself to release the left stick while you're jumping into the monster, and then you'll jump straight up instead of moving forward.
It's honestly very braindead as a playstyle but it feels good to have such consistent DPS with a greatsword. Another pro of aerial greatsword is that your jumping attacks will never bounce, so you basically get Mind's Eye skill built into the moveset, and you can use a lot more kinds of Greatswords without worrying about the sharpness.

If I may suggest: to really understand aerial, Herny did a fantastic explainer on this, better than anyone else (there are i frames and other secrets hidden in the jump).

You can really control the angle of the jump by holding a direction when you begin the initial evade jump because the evade jump will lock your current momentum regardless of your stick position.
Resetting your stick position to neutral when you begin the evade jump will send you straight up when you bounce off the monster
Pulling back during the evade jump will make you jump backwards when you bounce off the monster
You can then charge the greatsword and change angle while in the air similar to World and it will snap to that direction.
For example you evade forward, input the evade jump, pull your control stick backwards, bounce off the monster, you'll bounce backwards facing away, then hold your control stick forwards and hold the attack button and you'll turn while maintaining backwards momentum and hit the monster.
In this video you were constantly holding forward during the evade jump which made you WAY overshoot the monster. Usually not that big of a deal on Aerial Great Sword because as long as you're hitting a good hitbox it doesn't really matter where you hit but if you ever play Aerial Charge Blade you do need to learn aerial control in order to consistently get aerial AED headsnipes
Also when playing aerial style it's recommended to make your hunter art an SP art. This can be done at the item box, every style can assign 1 art to be an SP art except Alchemy which can assign all 3 if they want. SP arts will make your hunter art charge 1 level slower (XL Fast will go to Fast, Fast will go to Medium, Medium will go to Slow, Slow will go to XL Slow). SP mode is a buff that is unique for every single style
Guild: Will speed up all item use animations and will remove all extraneous item use animations (No more flexing when potion drinking)
Striker: Will passively charge your Hunter arts
Aerial: Stamina will never stop recharging constantly even when in the air
Adept: Changes the Adept dodge from Evade Window 3 to Evade Window 5
Valor: The Valor gauge fills up 50% faster
Alchemy: The alchemy gauge fills up 2x faster.

Aerial definitely excels at larger/longer monsters like Daimyo or Rathian but good that you got a grip on it for the smaller ones.

The reason the sonic bombs ain't work is because you're supposed to throw em when the hermitaur is blocking 👍

@@Pyrac Sonic bombs seem to not work on the same thing for the monsters they actually affect, be it blocking for hermitaurs, digging for diablos, or unenraged hopping for nargacuga.

You should try out Adept Greatsword, imo it's the most fun playstyle of Greatsword in this game
For some examples of fun Aerial styles you have Sword and Shield, Switch Axe and Hammer.
With Hammer you have three options out of the Aerial jump, you can do a charge attack for big damage, a circle attack that launches you to the air and allows you to attack again if you manage to hit it (it's the best way to get stun damage if you manage to hit the monster's head with both attacks) and a regular slam for quickly getting to the ground again. Furthermore, Aerial Style makes it so your regular on the ground level 3 charge attack is an upswing, which imo is really useful.
Also, Adept Hammer is Rise's Strength mode, while Valor Hammer is a more versatile Courage mode since both your first and your second charges can become upswings, while your level 3 charge can become the big finisher move for Rise's Strength Hammer.

Next you gotta try Adept GS, dodging though moves and charging as you run to the monsters is great

Also I think you were kind of waiting for your animations to end. On Aerial GS you can just cancel your attack endlag into another forward vault, its a bit faster

Aerial Style is mainly for mounting AND for larger monsters, otherwise it'll feel very clunky and awkward. It works better for other weapons like the Bow or Insect Glaive. As for your Stamina, buy a portable grill and grill you up a bunch of Well-Done Steaks. You can either eat them at the start or stockpile them for when you start getting a bunch of Dash Extract so that you can make Mega Dash Juices, which not only give you Max Stamina but stops it from decreasing for a long time. ^^

The draw attack does mounting damage. If you're aiming for a quick mount, this attack is preferred. Otherwise, vaulting is much better.

Aerial is always interesting against smaller monsters, like the Bulldrome, because the movement is just less precise. Easy mounts are always fun, though

I prefer swaxe with aerial… also once you have bombs you can plant bombs on a knock down and jump off them to detonate and get your aerial attack as well for big damage

Aerial style is when every weapon wanna be Insect Glaive 😆
Btw the i-frames are active during the initial jump, when you vault on the monster and iirc during the roll when you miss the jump. Though for the initial jump one the window is pretty small.
The Hunter Arts you mentioned is Absolute Readiness. Its pretty much Absolute Evasion with sharpness restore with the trade off being it takes slightly longer to charge and doesnt sheath your weapon

I honestly have no idea if this is a good style for GS but hey, Low Rank is perfect for experimenting so why not try Alchemy? You get a boatload of hunter arts and the barrel gets you tons of neat stuff to help in the hunt.

In terms of weapon styles areal GS is my least fav due to it being so repetative. All the other styles are good for GS so i am happy

Dude stop holding forward when jumping man, the best way to do aerial GS is to stay in one spot and keep full charge jumping, never wide sweep.
The quick drew is for easy damage for crit drew builds, which btw you want to have as some as possible crit drew is The skill for GS.
