  • How to cut to shorten a screw or a bolt in just seconds.
    Bolt cutter: amzn.to/3KyDKL2
    You might be able to use a wire cutter to cut screws without damaging the threads. The problem is that I’m not strong enough to cut a screw using a wire cutter.
    But anyone can use a bolt cutter to cut a screw in just seconds. The bigger the bolt cutter, the thicker the screws you can easily cut. A useful tip is to put a couple of nuts on the screw first, cut the screw, and then screw off the nuts. This will fix any damage to the thread.

    Much appreciation for posting this up. I'm in the middle of making some spare bolts for a folding bike and I was completely lost on how to cut these bolts properly. Hacksaw no more😂😂😂

    The "wire cutter" crimper tool is mean to cut aluminum or brass screws (used for electrical boxes) - not the stainless or zinc machine screw you are cutting in the vid.

    I had to return a set of 8" bolt cutters to Lowe's a while back, I had to cut through a bolt and could not squeeze the arms together at all! What did I do wrong! Was it the wrong size cutters? If I try again with 14" would I be more successful? Would really appreciate feedback. Thank you. Really interesting video.

    • @KYKCreations
      @KYKCreations  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Judith, the longer the bolt cutter, the easier it will be to cut because the longer the arms of the cutter allow more leverage to be created and, therefore, more cutting power even if you aren't strong enough to squeeze very hard.

    Nice video .the down side of using bolt cutters is it leaves a raggedy end just right to cut ya finger ,then you have to file it down which means putting it in a vice 😊 if so you might as well hack saw it ,in a vice 😂

    After shortening your bolt with bolt cutters, cleaning up the cut end with a metal file is a good idea - there will be some very sharp burrs there.

    3:30 - Those nuts served absolutely zero purpose and most certainly did not prevent the screw threads from being damaged when cutting the screw with a bolt cutter. How would they? You are still simply cutting the screw with bolt cutters at whatever point that you choose.
    Otherwise, great video!

    • @KYKCreations
      @KYKCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      phillip, those nuts are critical because as you screw them off, they actually help re-form the damaged thread.

      @@pthompson2113 jesus christ phillip youre not that bright. the nut-bolts 'rethread ' the damaged screw . when you cut a machine bolt you will almost always inadvertently damage the screw... this was the purpose for having the bolts on in the first place. she even had 2 hex nuts on to ensure the screw would be properly rethreaded as the hex nuts were removed. analyze your dumb stupid comments before making them phillip!
