Hi Charlotte, and thanks for the appreciation of the efforts. Railway strikes with train cancellations have now also made getting there for me even harder. I'm sorry I couldn't see any of your favourite characters in the video!

Thanks for braving public transport, crowds and yucky weather. But at least it wasn’t raining🥳 The sound is pretty amazing in the video, not as good as being there I don’t suppose and I daresay that’s why you persevere. Cheers👍

Thanks Ann! No, in my opinion no recording can completely match the sound and experience of being there "in person". All they can be is a "historical" record, although of course they can bring advantages such as being able to see things further away than can be seen with the naked eye, or helping the viewer see and hear all the individual band instruments, etc, really close up as in the excellent videos by a few of the filmers who can walk along right alongside the band and guards in a way that wouldn't be practicable for most people.
Even "studio" recordings are often not what they seem. As you may have seen, my own instrument playing background is in brass bands not military bands, but I was amazed to see how often professional recordings of even top bands playing particular pieces aren't a true "live" performance of the piece, but a series of "takes" of different bits of the piece which are then stitched together. That even happened with recordings of a top band playing some of my own march compositions.
I really wanted to get to Windsor yesterday (Saturday 6 April) which was originally scheduled to be the Band of the Grenadier Guards, but in fact was changed to the Band of the Irish Guards, but getting there by public transport was just not viable. At least I can enjoy the excellent videos from some of the regular posters.

@@MikeM14-40 I agree. There’s nothing like a live performance. You can’t get atmosphere from recordings nor the ‘feel’ of the beat and the movement. But, heyho, a recording is much better than nothing😎
