It was this game series that lead me to simulation games since 90s Also I totally get the core concept of the game: farming, interaction and cattle. If you focus on one of the core concept of the game in-game you will lose the interactivity of the other 2 core concept. Also forcing yourself to get everthing fast/ efficiently will get you stressed out and you will find yourself like playing the game as a chore. Finding balance on the 3 core concept while playing this kind of game for me makes the game more enjoyable.
Exactly! It has to be balanced. I love video-games for that very idea: you not only have ideas that need to be functional, they need to be enjoyable, and last long enough to keep players engaged. There are so many ideas you can come up with when someone mentions the word 'farming' but how to make those concepts engaging? I'd love to have been able to hear the discussions on that one!
Thank you for the video. I am doing a paper on Harvest Moon and was having a hard time trying to find information about its development... till I found your video! Thank you once again!
Glad it was helpful! A lot of research and hard work goes into each video we put out so to hear it was useful in the research capacity is good to hear. Thank you for watching! Also, if you need any help sorting out the history, let me know. I've got plenty of unused material I didn't cover.
I currently play the first Harvest Moon (SNES) game. It is way better than most modern games, because there is just exactly enough to do. Grow 2 grows per spring/summer, grow grass from spring till fall. Get cows and/or chickens and that's mostly it for farming. Interact with 5 girls only is plenty as well. In most modern games, there is just too much to do in so little time. Harvest Moon SNES FTW!
I had the reddit post of this bookmarked since November last year and im finally getting to it now - Better late than never. Thank you for posting this!
Thank you! I was glad to learn about the series as well, I didn't know it went through much. As far as I knew it was a game that I played a lot as a kid, not a game released during the N64 era. Not the first farming game either, just...a game I loved playing!
Agreed. I never played much Harvest Moon past the N64/PS1 days, so I didn't really know what to say about the rest of the games in the franchise other than paraphrase Wikipedia articles. The Natsume stuff was really what I was interested in!
No wonder I felt that Animal Parade was one of the best games and that the games went downhill afterwards. And after all the failures, including the new one world, I can only pray that Natsume just stops making their awful rip off games of Harvest Moon games.

Harvest Moon Back To Nature is one of my favorite games of all time!
I hate how this game is reduced to Stardew Valley’s inspiration, it’s so much more than that, and I’d say it’s better

What about Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life?
