I bought two 10 pound bags of chicken leg quarters Saturday for 29 cents a pound plus 10%. $6.38 for what turned out to be 20 leg quarters. My freezer is very happy!!!

You are so lucky to score chicken at that price. That would literally never happen in my country.

I kept an Insurance man ( Allsnake lol ) for years because he was very kind to my mom. He always helped my husband and I with claims too. He cared, he didn't just take the fee, But when he retired they started denying my claims so I switched to Snake Farm. ( can you tell I'm not a fan of insurance companies? ). So glad you're getting extra food right now. Bless.

I started going through my cupboards and checking what I have on hand. I also started flipping through my cookbooks. Between the pantry, freezer and fresh stuff, I found 4 casserole recipes I can make that are different enough I can make all of them so that will fill in a lot of meals till the end of the month. Yesterday i watched a channel called Cooking the Books and the lady made a recipe called Holiday Spaghetti from the Betty Crocker Picturee Cookbook. That was a fun episide. It's kind of funny, since I started the challenge, I'm finding I don't need anything except milk. I'm having fun with it andI don't feel constricted or deprived. 💖

I’ve been doing a low spend challenge here in Canada since the start of November. I’m allowed to buy milk and half&half (as needed) a loaf of bread for work lunches each week, and a half dozen bananas every week for my breakfast smoothie, and I can buy one wildcard item per week to make recipes work or for a treat. I have not felt deprived, either. 💖

Great job on stretching those pennies. Yes, we that are older for sure are still learning.
For those that might say you could have saved on your pasta, it is important to remember that a dollar saved on two boxes of pasta could easily have been eaten up in fuel costs to drive to Dollar Tree.
Sometimes, it is best to spend a bit more on one item as you save on gasoline costs.

I was so happy last week to see that the corn and green beans were still on sale for 50 cents a can at Walmart.
I just love green beans so I stocked up on them because I'm sure that they will be going up in price soon.

When I find good vegetable sales, I buy by the flat. I did that with my favorite canned tomatoes at Aldi. What I bought for $.49 a can is now $.95 a can.👍😀

Thank you for sharing your mornings with us. ☺️ I lost my Advantage plan and flex card. Our hospital and Dr's don't except it anymore, and I got $127 and I used it on my electricity bill. Now I'm struggling to pay almost half of my income on utilities.

Scratch cooking is quite a bit cheaper than buying prepared foods, especially when you break it down per meal. One thing I have noticed in my area is that the baking aisle used to have a lot of cake mixes and various jellos and puddings but not any more. The quality has been going downhill anyways. Time to dust off the cookbooks and starts baking from scratch, too.

I'm so glad you mentioned about the cake mixes disappearing! I've noticed the same thing g here in Tampa. Here one week, gone the next. Took out my Mom's old cookbook and made fabulous banana bread from scratch. Better than a mix and healthier. Not processed foods. Too expensive. Granny is right. Shop the produce aisle and save money and eat better,

Granny, it’s very expensive shop here England, I am disabled in a wheelchair, I am off sick at the moment from my part time job, I live with a army veteran who is super good with our budget, but the cost of food is diabolical, and couponing over here isn’t as big as it is in the USA so he shops around to get the best buys. We are luckier than most. Respect to you. ❤

But of course for those who aren’t doing the challenge you can get food at food banks to survive. $84 dollars a month is difficult if you have no kind of storage or food in your pantry or freezer. I hope people would use those programs so no one starves. ❤

I cleared my pantry this weekend, the regular & extra closet space. Had to toss entire outdoor trash bin full of expired canned goods (those more than 18 months past the best by date). Hurt my heart & my pocket to see what all I wasted. My saving grace is I am menu planning using what is about to expire or near the best by date & shouldn't need anything but milk, eggs, fresh fruits for at least 6 months. That should be a nice savings. My Sam's Club was out of bread (got some Dave's Killer bread at outlet for $2.50). They had no eggs, only egg whites & only green green bananas. Times are changing for sure.

Milk and butter have their own place on my shelf and freezer because animal fat is very important to maintain our cells. Without animal fats, our cells become sick, then we begin to feel ill.

I am on both Medicaid and Medicare because my Social Security retirement check is less than what they consider being low income.
I get $219.00 a month for both over the counter and food benefits.

  • @ScarletDebbie

I get those healthy food benefits too, I get enough to make it work and I do also get ebt, has anyone here ever been ebt shamed at the store? It's awful how people that don't even know you standing behind you in line see you using your ebt card they just assume that you are lazy. It got so bad that I have started hiding my ebt card in line and when I scan it, I try to not let anyone behind me know that's what it is. Can you talk about this? There is no reason why folks that have worked and then need them or folks that need them should be made to feel bad for getting ebt, but I have gone out of the store in tears before due to the shaming. I'm very thankful for my benefits card, it also helps me pay some of my utility bill, not all of it but it does help with some of it so I'm not socked for all the bill.

Is your insurance inexpensive? I assume it’s a Medicare supplement. Does it pay everything that Medicare doesn’t pay? My supplement pays well but it’s expensive and has no benefits like yours
