    I bought a case of the Blue. As one viewer mentioned there is a variety of differences depending on the batch of the filter. I wouldn't go over 4000 miles with any filter based on watching your videos here. What impressed me was the lack of glue on the blue filters in your videos.

      Man its a hard argument but when i first started using amsoil 0w30 signature series in my s10 i would only do yearly oilchanges, roughly 10-15k miles. The oil itself would stay perfectly clean for 8+ months before any indications it was due to be changed. Even amsoil recommends this oil for 15k and the filter every 10k miles.

    The basic STP uses what's known as a nitrile "combo valve", bypass and adbv in one. Thus, the extra set of holes. That's a 'no bueno' for me. Plus, it uses older style polyester endcaps. It's equal to the Super Tech ST line, but many of those now use metal endcaps. You are correct about the XL, it is 'supposed' to have a silicone adbv, First Brands playing games again. Both are made by Champ Labs. Both these filters can be purchased for less by buying the Super Tech ST(STP) or the Super Tech MP (XL) series. Factoid, ACDelco for GM (also by Champ Labs) never uses combo valve, only separate bypass like XL. Thanks for vid.

    Champion Labs filters. Both of those filters have that weird, stamped sheet steel baseplate inlet. Looks like some AC filters I've seen a while back when they changed. AC used to have nice baseplates on their filters and went to that style. You're right that is the bypass, but it a lousy one. It's dependent on the pliability of that nitrile rubber drainback which won't stay pliable long in hot engine oil. If they're going to do that it should be silicone.
    I wouldn't waste my time with either one of those filters. That blue one is just cheap with that bypass design and the XL, for that price there's a lot better choices out there the way that one's built. Nice comparison!

    • @faxmen09
      @faxmen09 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As you imply, look similar to ACDelco filters because they are all made by Champ Labs. However, ACDelco for GM vehicles NEVER use a combo valve found in the base STP here. They always spec separate dome bypass. Btw, the extra outer baseplate is to make installation easier than the non-beveled protruding thread boss without the plate. That's how Champ labs promoted it anyway. No other purpose.

    I change the oil filter, stp, or wal-mart, brand, or motorcraft, as long as the filter has the bypass valve in it.
    I buy them on sale,
    I change the motor oil and filter every 5,000 to 6,000, never over 6,
    So, can you run both filters 3,000 , 2,500 miles take the filter apart and weigh it.
    Check the job it has done. Yes, it will have oil all over it know but look at everything and see what changed.
    Test them after the filter has been doing it job, and test the oil to see if it is clean.

    Nice to see this comparison. AutoZone and STP are my most often choice for oil changes, strictly for the value. I often wondered what truly makes a filter better for higher mileage. One would expect greater capacity for contaminants and better efficiency over longer use. However, I don't see that here. My thoughts are that the XL is more durable and therefore would last longer before breaking down. The media may be able to trap more debris but I would also expect it to clog sooner. So, hard to say. Obviously, the silicone shortage is real. What's your opinion on neoprene vs. silicone?

      Failure of the housing is a possibility but that’s an engineering issue to resolve. When I did the first oil change on our car, I was worried I was going to break the housing so I bought a spare to keep for when I did. That was 130,000 miles and many oil changes ago.
