Honestly, Chalkzone is more deserving of a revival than Rugrats. I love Rugrats, but what story could they tell that they haven't told?
An All Grown Up special that takes place 10 years, then 20 years, then 30 years from when the show left off would make a better 30th anniversary special than this reboot. Granted, I've never seen the reboot and since I normally watch the iCarly revival through Apple TV's Paramount+ app, so I'm gonna take your word on it.

I think asking the question of whether there's any real story reason to return to a series is a great point -- a lot of reboots seem to struggle to come up with a _raison d'etre_ , and asking and answering a question like that is actually a barometer I use myself when I look at them (or, rather, when they come onto my radar like the _Rugrats_ one did). I think the reboot doesn't make any compelling new case for the show if you weren't already a fan -- but then again, that's no problem for the executives involved in greenlighting these things.
Thank you for watching this video!

I wrote this down in my notebook before this video uploaded.
The Villains of Valley View is the only good kidcom still running that I've seen right now. Yeah, Raven's Home fans aren't gonna like that but here's the thing or two things.
    1. They've spent the fifth season so far creating so many plot holes to justify changing the status quo. From Tanya's absence to Raven leaving behind her designer studio in Chicago. They've at least attempted to fix some of them but so far there's still a few they need to fix but in addition to that, Neil and Alice aren't very funny. It's safe to say it's just okay. But not good. Honestly, they've haven't an overall good season since the third.
    2. Ever since 2019, kidcoms have been getting worse and worse while the mistreatment of good kids shows have been getting worse and worse. We've seen some of the best live action kids shows over the past five or six years: Andi Mack, The Astronauts, Drama Club, Sydney to the Max, The Barbarian and the Troll, I Am Frankie, Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion, Side Hustle and Warped! and from what I've heard but haven't seen: Mech X4, 100 Things To Do Before High School, No Good Nick, Anne With An E, The Babysitter's Club and even Julie and the Phantoms, which I heard was the most popular new live action kids show since Andi Mack.
In 2019 alone, Andi Mack gets cancelled and replaced by two painfully unfunny Discoms with Bunk'd becoming the first one to get a fifth season. In retrospect, that should've been a sign for me that the worst was yet to come.
While there have been some exceptions, most of those exceptions are either barely advertised, cancelled or quietly cancelled. Meanwhile, I've largely avoided shows that looked really bad like Gabby Duran, Coop and Cami, Danger Force, Young Dylan and Legendary Dudas. I've seen promos and clips of Gabby Duran and cringed watching all of it. I've seen half of a Coop and Cami episode before giving up. I refuse to watch Bunk'd to give Disney power to continue it. I didn't laugh once watching That Girl Lay Lay's pilot episode or two out of three episodes of Just Roll With It. One of those episodes had a guest appearance from Jason Earles and the episode was basically a Hannah Montana parody along with a Billie Eilish parody so of course it was funny. Literally the only thing interesting about that show is the improv gimmick. But instead of the cast making up the plot as they went along, they have the audience choose what happens to these characters and none of the choices they're given are funny. Old kids shows aren't treated much better as Hollywood has been digging into the bottom of their graves and resurrecting their decaying bodies in the form of terrible reboots (Fate the Winx Saga, Thundercats Roar) or terrible spinoffs (Bunk'd, Fairly Odder)
With all this ish going on, it's no wonder the so-called Disney Brain gave up talking about Disney Channel and Nickelodeon so he can talk about Power Rangers 24/7. And I don't even watch Power Rangers but considering it has such a long lasting legacy and ideas to reinvent itself and decades of moving around TV networks, it's safe that show will never get cancelled. You could say it's the most POWERful live action kids show of all time.
Anyway, I got tired of seeing bad kidcoms and went to streaming for better live action kids shows.
I finished Theodosia season 1 on HBO Max which was a decent show. It's made by the same company that made H2O and The Bureau of Magical Things and I definitely get the same feel for those shows. I can't find any confirmation that it's getting another season and I think they deserve it.
Speaking of The Bureau of Magical Things, I just finished that show which can be corny but really solid but for some reason, there's also no confirmation if it's getting a third season. Also from Netflix was an original miniseries called Best Worst Weekend Ever and I don't think I laughed this hard watching a recent kidcom since Good Luck Charlie ended! I never saw The Hangover but the guy who co wrote that movie created this show. Maybe that's what the live action kids show industry needs, writers who worked on adult stuff making kids stuff!
Secrets of Sulphur Springs is getting a third season but it seems like now, the good shows only get a third season limit unless you're a spinoff of one of the most popular live action kids shows of all time. I'm gonna keep my guard up on that and hope the writers will make an open ended finale just in case. And Percy Jackson and the Olympians just started filming.
    That's it. That's what I wrote down.
For what it's worth, there's another TH-camr named Christa who was surprisingly brave enough to watch Bunk'd all the way through and claimed that it's gotten better since Season 4. Still not as good as Villains or Violet but they're at least improving. Also according to her, That Girl Lay Lay has gotten better as it went along (namely with season 2) as did Gabby Duran. And with Sydney and Violet cancelled, Villains is the only current running kidcom I'm sure is actually good.

I can personally confirm that _Mech-X4_ was a really strong and adventurous series, and it really sucks that it wasn't treated well by Disney XD. (Though I think the mass burnoff of their series slate at that time signaled all intentions about their future.)
Personally I'm not as big a fan of _The Villains of Valley View_ as I was expecting to be (though it has improved a little over the course of its run), and conversely I was more of an _Ultra Violet_ fan than I thought I would be. (I plan to go into more detail in a 2022 in Review for Disney Channel.) Disney Channel in general has improved quite a bit in recent years, and I'm looking forward to the third season of _Secrets of Sulphur Springs_ soon. I've also been meaning to go back through their recent fare and try out things like _Coop and Cami_ and _Gabby Duran_ because I don't feel I gave them a fair chance, but as a relic from a time where I found Disney Channel deeply unappealing, I know I'll definitely be avoiding _Bunk'd_ !
As I said in the video, _Danger Force_ is a solid show, though I was also a big _Henry Danger_ fan throughout its run, so coming directly into the spinoff might be a bit of a challenge. _That Girl Lay Lay_ has built in some more story and is exploring some new angles, so it could be worth a revisit.
Live-action kids' TV _is_ hitting a stride again as of late, and I don't feel it's necessarily exclusively thanks to streaming -- and personally, I think that change applies much more to Disney's stuff than Nick's (though they've had a few rough watches as of late themselves, like _Drama Club_ and _Warped!_ ). I do want to commend you a little for trying out some of these shows because I still feel the negative perceptions surrounding live-action kids' TV as easy to ignore or not worth watching are still out there.
I'll have to check out Christa's channel though, 'cause I'd love to see more discussion of live-action kids' TV from a current standpoint and not just heavily focused on the nostalgic angle from things 10 or 15 years old (even though I watched plenty of those shows growing up!) Thanks for mentioning her.
I really appreciate this thoughtful comment, and thank you for watching this video!

I am a super fan of Side Hustle, but the only thing I was a little bit disappointed about when it came to the show is how it seemed to stray away from the side hustle concept. Don't get me wrong, the show is still amazing, but I kinda wished they would've kept focusing on the trio taking various different jobs because that aspect of the show is one of the things that I loved most about it! With that being said, I agree that it was necessary for the show to have episodes that aren't about that - I mean the show is called Side Hustle, not Full Time Hustle lol, so I don't think EVERY episode should be about that. And despite season 2 not focusing as much on the trio trying to pay off their debt (well at least until that big moment happens at the end of "Thumb and Thumber"), season 2 is still my favorite season because the storylines were still interesting, the show became even funnier, and two characters (specifically Fisher and Jaget) have improved so much in season 2. Jaget is absolutely hilarious in season 2! I was hoping that season 3, if the show had one, would've had more episodes about the trio working different jobs, but I am so disappointed that Side Hustle got cancelled. I truly believe season 3 would've been the best season yet, even if it wasn't going to focus all the much on the side hustle concept. I think that Side Hustle was Nickelodeon's best live action show since I Am Frankie. I don't understand why Nickelodeon thought it would be a good idea to cancel one of their best shows - in my opinion, Side Hustle stands out more to me than Nickelodeon classics like iCarly and Victorious. I really feel like Side Hustle had the potiental to be Nickelodeon's next big show. I'm still upset that we aren't getting a season 3. But there is a little bit of good news - Munchy will appear on the new episode of That Girl Lay Lay coming out this Thursday!! I was so surprised to hear that and obviously, I am so happy that Munchy will be back, even if it's just for one episode of another show.
Speaking of That Girl Lay Lay, the show didn't impress me all that much when it first came out, but I still liked it. After watching all the season 2 episodes that have came out so far, I think season 2 does a better job at showing the potiental that the show has. I feel like this show has some episodes that are more interesting than others. I think that in season 1, some of the episodes were just mid - not bad, but not that amazing. However, I feel like a lot of the season 2 episodes are a bit more interesting and funny. The show is still not as good as Side Hustle, but I would still consider it better than a lot of the Nickelodeon sitcoms that came out in the 2010s. I think Sadie is the best character on the show. The parents Trish and Bryce have their funny moments sometimes. Jeremy was one of my favorite characters in season 1 so I'm disappointed that he isn't in season 2. I wish they would've explained why he's not there. Cobo is a good addition to season 2, I'm glad he's not just a copy of Jeremy's personality, even though it seems like he was only added to replace Jeremy.
As for Danger Force, I am surprised that you like it so much. It is refreshing to hear a different about this show, since I know so many people don't like it. I like Danger Force, but even I can see that the show has some major flaws. The show can be funny and it still has some clever writing from time to time, but I think the flaws that the show has can overshadow the good stuff about it sometimes. The laugh track is too loud and happens too often and this is coming from a person that usually doesn't mind laugh tracks. And that, combined with the fact the characters do this annoying thing where they talk over each other a lot, makes it hard for me to hear what the characters are saying sometimes and I have to use the captions to understand. I also think that when this show wants to be creative, it does a good job at it, but the show sometimes isn't very creative and can lack originality, mainly when it comes to villains. Oh my goodness, most of the villains in this show annoy me so much because you can tell there's barely any thought that goes into them. The only villains that I like are Frankini and Drex. I also feel like this show tries too hard to keep the audience's attention by constantly having the characters do or say something silly. Sometimes, the extremely fast pace is nice but other times, it only makes the show feel like it's been rushed. And I think that's my main problem with the show - it feels like they were rushing with creating a lot of episodes of this show. Season 2 has improved some things about the show, but I still feel like this show needs to improve some more. I do think that if the show would fix some of its' problems, then this show would have a lot of potiental to be really good. And some episodes are really good, but then some episodes just seem rushed and have an extreme lack of originality. This show isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but it definitely could use some improvement.
As for Young Dylan, I actually don't think it's a terrible show when you look at some of the season 2 and season 3 episodes. I feel like this show does try to teach good lessons to the younger viewers, but just like with Danger Force, there's something about this show that is holding it back from being as good as it could be. I don't even know exactly what it is. Maybe when I figure it out, I'll comment it here.
Anyways, thank you so much for making this video! I can't wait to hear you talk about Warped in your 2022 review of Nickelodeon! I think it was the second best live action show on the network after Side Hustle. It's such a shame that it only got thirteen episodes. Oh and the new Monster High series in 2022 is great as well! Anyway, thanks for making this video! I hope you are happy and healthy and I hope you have a great week!

Hi Christa! Someone else in these comments recommended your videos and I've been meaning to check out a few of them since -- thanks for taking the time to comment!
Season two of _Side Hustle_ definitely sold me on the idea that they could go beyond the initial premise and have it work well, and I definitely agree the show improved, even if it is fair to say they could've balanced the expansion of the story a little better than they did. It's a shame it won't be getting a season three, as I think it was well on its way to becoming a bonafide Nick classic.
_That Girl Lay Lay_ is probably a strong second for me behind _Side Hustle_ , and despite some of the rough patches of story it can face sometimes with fully exploring its universe, I feel it's doing a good job, both in living up to its own intents and bringing something new to Nick that I don't feel we've seen before. I'm looking forward to its return this Thursday -- the Munchy guest appearance announcement came as a complete surprise to me over the weekend!
Somewhat likewise to your own reaction to my thoughts on _Danger Force_ , I'm surprised to hear measured criticism of it beyond the fact that it's now Nick's new live-action poster child (or at least the heir apparent after _Henry Danger_ , though I think Nick's done a decent job in the 2020s of exposing their main sitcoms pretty equally). The Dangerverse as a whole is probably worth exploring in a more in-depth way at some point, but for me, as someone who followed the volatile creative ups and downs that hurt parts of _Henry Danger_ (and _The Adventures of Kid Danger_. the first attempt at a spinoff, as I briefly mentioned here), _Danger Force_ continues on with the best parts of where its parent series left off in season 5; while I signaled my discontent with the ending in the 2020 review video, through the rest of the season the show had finally been finding good creative footing to stand on, after how flanderized some elements had gotten during the middle of the series' run. You can still sense some of the more absurd concepts in the spinoff, but they're reined in enough to be handled convincingly and they execute well as a result. I think it could be said that the show's rogues gallery doesn't really matter as much on an episode-to-episode basis given the comic nature of the show, but with that said, they're still treated in such a way that you can take the battles seriously when it's meant to, and the ability of _Danger Force_ to not ruin the stakes of its superhero fights is probably one of its enduring creative successes carried over from _Henry Danger_ (at a time where a lot of other villains and conflicts in series with similar premises are watered down such that it threatens the believability of the plot). Sort of by contrast to how you see it, I think season 1 set such a high bar for the show that season 2 (and onward) is at risk of not keeping up with the franchise's full potential. If the rest of this season stays in the sort of cushy if unchallenging creative position it's nestled into, it could slip into a downslide in the long term, which wouldn't be good news.
I said most of what I really wanted to say about _Young Dylan_ in the 2020 retrospective; likewise I was dissuaded from following it further and haven't seen any of the newer episodes (the _That Girl Lay Lay_ crossovers excluded -- "How to Catch a Scammer", the 2022 crossover produced as part of _Young Dylan_ 's run, was okay, but nothing to write home about).
Thanks so much for watching this, I really appreciate it! Hopefully I'll have the 2022 retrospective for Nick out in a few weeks, though chances are it'll probably end up another lengthy video!

@@benzj Oh my goodness, thank you so much for replying to my comment even when you didn't have to! And thank you so much for wanting to check out my videos, but my videos really aren't that interesting, I just simply talk about some of the shows I like. And I've only made a few videos about Disney and Nickelodeon shows so far (but I definitely plan on making some more videos about that since I like a lot of Disney and Nickelodeon shows and I want to share my opinions on them). But again, thank you for showing interest in my channel, that means a lot to me!
And thank you for sharing your thoughts on these shows! I agree that season 2 of Side Hustle was really good and like you said, it definitely showed that the show could explore other topics and still be really interesting. Season 2 has some of my favorite episodes like Prank You Very Much, Yesley Day, When Worlds Collide, Thumb and Thumber, and Dinner for Jerks!
And speaking of the storytelling aspect of That Girl Lay Lay, that's one of the things that I think the show needs to work on, particularly when it comes to the whole avatar concept. I appreciate how season 2 has started answering some of my questions about the whole avatar concept - for example, a recent episode did show that the app that Lay Lay was from had a creator and that the creator can control certain aspects about Lay Lay, such as changing her personality. However, I still feel like there are so many unanswered questions about Lay Lay and just how the whole being an avatar from a phone thing works. But other than that, I really like the show, especially in season 2. I miss Jeremy from season 1 though and I wonder why there was no explanation as to why he's not in season 2.
And as for Danger Force, I think it has a lot of potential and can be very creative at times. I personally think that seasons 4 and 5 of Henry Danger are the best things to come out of the Dangerverse. And after really enjoying those two seasons, I watched Danger Force. And actually, when Danger Force first came out, I did think it was just as good as Henry Danger. But obviously, my opinion has changed. I don't think Danger Force is a terrible show, I still like it. Ray was my favorite character in Henry Danger so I am glad he is in Danger Force as well.
Anyways, thank you so much for sharing all of your thoughts about these shows, it was super interesting to read! I can't wait for your next video, I don't mind it being long at all since I'm really interested in hearing all you have to say! I hope you are having a great week!

Well, I will say this. Even though Nickelodeon wasn't perfect when it comes to creating new programs, at least the network is trying to expand its schedule. Now, if only Nick at Nite can be a little more original and mix reruns with original programming.
