Not sure how the STI is but i have a base wrx and it was a nightmare until i put an ots tune on it. the stock throttle mapping was non linear and like 40% depression of the pedal was nearly 100% wide open throttle. Made it unbelievably sensitive to give it the right amount of gas into first gear, and you end up stalling it trying not to over gas it. The tune set the throttle mapping to linear and i never had that issue again.

The back up cam issue is actually a recall. Not sure if you are one to take your vehicle to a dealership for a recall but if you wanna do it yourself, you can find the procedure report to help walk you through replacing the switch module
Confidence inspiring is one that's thrown around a lot. It is a great total experience and can be pushed harder in more conditions, takes corners like a go cart. Really I think only Porsche can beat the experience in all out cornering performance and thats likely because it also has a boxer engine with that low center of gravity.
Man if you like this car daily driving it and full sending it in the rain, you would 100% fall in love with it if you were to play with it in the snow! I find my Sti kinda bland sometimes street driving it but as soon as it snows, it reminds me completely why I love my car
Now I really need to get myself an STI or WRX. I had a feeling these cars could be fun for a daily enough handling and power. The fact Drew kept it stock motor-wise proved to me that you don't need performance mods to make it better because in reality it just ups your chances of things breaking down (unreliable)
From someone who got a 2019 WRX brand new from the dealer, built it to pretty much you can without replacing the block and just recently “upgraded” to a STI get an STI. You will not regret it.
no idea if you’ve ever bagged on the FK8 Type R but I’d be curious to see if you’d like it. I’ve had one for the past ~6 months and it’s one of the best daily/performance vehicles in my opinion
Have mine for 3 years now and I still absolutly adore it. I have kids and also a dog (an Aussie). Got the doggy rack so he can come along in the trunk. This car does it all for me. Chill when you want it but when you floor it, it still puts a huge grin on my face after all this time. I'm never selling that car!
If you actually competed regularly at track days and autocross then you would know you don’t need a fast car to have fun. Highway pulls are for losers with no skill, it is a mockery of what true motor sports really is. Hence the popularity of Miata, 86, WRX and mini at race tracks.
For the reverse camera issue verify connection in the trunk, some. People install cheap 4th brake lights and that mess up the camera and reverse lights if installed wrong
Drew from one sti owner to another. if you plan to track your car get an oil pickup and baffled pan. In long corners you have a chance of oil starvation from oil sloshing in the pan.
Gotta upgrade the turbo and front mount intercooler. Add an intake too, maybe an iag block in the future and you're good. Vape pen does count as a mod on subies

I know what you mean about stalling out the car drew. I have a metal clutch in my si that I drive fine and am very used to. I drove a stock 5.0 the other day and stalled at a light. Not used to a paper light clutch anymore I guess. 🤷♂️
In Cali, they don't distinguish between floor, ground or roads, pavement/ concrete! Drew racing on wet floors? Maybe they don't know there is a difference? Love your subbee bro!
Have you driven a Type-R? Just got one not too long ago, and I feel the same way you are about the STI. Never got a chance to drive one so I was wondering the differences outside of the AWD.
Alot of people have been switching over to awd because of the platform being well rounded. Im glad to have kept my 04 with everything fbo tuned and ripping at 400hp. Everyone talked down on subi being garbage but i feel like its more of neglecting and abusing a 4 cylinder because of the notorious motors like k20/k24s having notoriously being thrown bricks at it and still chugging. Boxer motors are for those with patience and willing to spend their money to craft if not one of the top awd manufacturers that you see on the street often as of today. I feel a brew coming where everyone has a high demand for awd cars like subarus, audi, srt grand cherokees because of its overall use on a daily basis.
This car was originally built to be beaten badly off the road on a Rally track and to battle the original Killer Bs. (B-Class Rally cars if you don't know.) It was then slightly tamed to be out on the street.
Compared to other newer cars, the STI is still great. People focus on the engine always but the drivetrain is and always has been the best part of the STI. 3 LSD's and an electronic center diff in such a cheap car is amazing. Plus the STI 6 speed is VERY strong in stock form.. like 800whp drag launches on slicks strong.
if you have a catback and cobb intake for the car i would highly recommend getting an etune from the guys at brentuning. really wakes up the car not only do you get more power but you car runs way better and more healthy than stock or the cobb OTS maps
Ngl I use always watched your content but I would never subscribe bc of your hate of imports but now you appreciate them . I now finally subscribed lol
It's true that a car doesn't need to be fast to have fun. I've owned both 3.7 Liter V 6 Mustangs and an Audi A3 Allroad. The Audi with its AWD was a great canyon runner. I've since moved on to a 5.0 GT and an a Q7, but I don't regret those prior purchases. I actually miss the Allroad a little. The Q7 is quite a bit beefier and doesn't handle canyons as well.
Too late bub we don't want ya! Just teasing, nice looking pickup. 1st thing keep it as stock as possible, 2nd and most IMPORTANT get the reliability mods done ASAP KillerB, or IAG oil pan w/oil pickup and baffle KillerB, or IAG AOS Cylinder 4 cooling mod Always use Subaru OEM Blue Coolant Motul 10w40 oil Once the reliability stuff is done you will have a solid platform that will give you yrs of enjoyment as long as you keep up on the maintenance items properly.
Love my WRX. I was shocked to see you pick up a Subaru after hating on them for so long, but I knew you’d change your mind. I think a lot of enthusiast cars out there that get a lot of hate are usually just misunderstood for what they are (like golf R, BRZ, Veloster N etc)
shouldve gotten 19+ i think was the year but they have the type RA block bottom end is much stronger for engine mods also youve changed alot lol i could see you ripping this thing apart in rice or nice once you saw the stock engine bay lol
I prefer the 2nd gen WRXs, but they are all fun. Well maybe not the brand new ones lol. Just something about the older ones that have ABS and nothing else to assist you is just so fun. My old bugeye is not the fastest car or anything like that, but I'm now sitting just over 300 AWHP and just under 300 ft lbs of torque. That is plenty to have fun with. Not only that but I like building cars and subarus just feel so rewarding. There aren't many cars out there where you can feel a slight gain in HP but you definitely can in a bugeye. People shit on the WRX/STI (myself included until I got one myself) but they are really cool and fun cars. Only thing I don't like is dealing with the die-hard Subaru people though.

- mine has brembos and the baby spoiler from factory
turbo brz is still slow lol
The day droopy buys a BRZ/FRS is the day hell freezes over
@@yohan1902 yeah, i’m half a car behind a scat. it’s pretty slow, but it’s faster than an sti.
@@Kami892efinitely not faster man specially keeping in mind the brz is way lighter but it’s not faster then the sti but then the wrx yes but not the sti .stock vs stock sti wins but stock va stock against a wrx the brz wins . That’s what I didn’t like about it the brz is how slow it was for the weight and size so I bought the 21 sti way better , performance is way better , accelerating is way better , too speed is better , enjoyability is way higher ( preference ) the brz just doesn’t compete with the sti specially the new gen brz .
@@6speedArks i’ve beat a few sti’s, s4, s8, a few other quick cars. think what you want but i own the car and i know it’s faster than an sti, especially after i finish my 500whp engine.
The back up cam issue is actually a recall. Not sure if you are one to take your vehicle to a dealership for a recall but if you wanna do it yourself, you can find the procedure report to help walk you through replacing the switch module
Finally some Subaru appreciation and acknowledgement that a million HP isn't the only end-all-be-all.
@@Ibike007 that’s badass dude, i don’t plan on ever selling mine either
You made me proud to be an sti fan drew mad respect to you and your gf
It's a Subaru, any performance mods will add minimal power and maximum unreliability
@@j4y167 only if you have no clue what you are doing
@@gavinmersman4209 "bro it's a reliable car I swear, you just have to have a doctorate in subarology and you'll be fine" you don't have a point here mate. It takes way more money, effort and knowledge just to get it to put out the same power as a 90s honda with an eBay turbo kit and then then it STILL won't be as reliable OR as fast because of the extra weight. L car for L boys
@@j4y167 they are insanely reliable I had a wrx 17 brand new and stage 2 with 320 hp reliable tune and when I sold it at 155,000km it was still brand new. my sti once warranty is finished will be 385-400 on reliable tune... they have lower tolerances but the idea that they are unreliable is just dumb you need a reputable shop that specializes in subaru minimum tho
As an owner of a fun car that lacks power I appreciate this video and that you understand that you can still have fun in a car with the right setup. Probably not as much fun as a 900hp mustang but still can have fun in a slow car like my 3G.
the intro made it look like you confessing your love for the car finally 😂😂
Great review.
I love my ‘19, two complaints I have are: 1 the speakers are god awe full, and 2 just a personal preference but the tail lights look cheap like really cheap and ugly. Besides that it’s great and definitely the best car I’ve ever owned in my 17 years of driving.
Subaru had a recall for the trunk light and backup camera for my STI about 4 months ago. Everything been fine since
Hey, nice content bro!!!
I’m an owner of an STI myself. There is a recall for the reverse lights/camera not activating
I drive a 22 veloster n and it only has 275 horses but it’s still super fun for canyon runs
those calipers are to match the porsche caliper color choice of the same time period and pay box star homage
only sti get calipers on color way same as only porsches with carbon ceramics
I know what you mean about stalling out the car drew. I have a metal clutch in my si that I drive fine and am very used to. I drove a stock 5.0 the other day and stalled at a light. Not used to a paper light clutch anymore I guess. 🤷♂️
In Cali, they don't distinguish between floor, ground or roads, pavement/ concrete! Drew racing on wet floors? Maybe they don't know there is a difference? Love your subbee bro!
I went and picked up a VB and I'm loving it! Still love my S14 though. Nothing will replace that haha
I thought this was going to be about a blown head gasket😂 jokes aside they are a fun car!!😎👍
Great review Drew, interesting to see your detailed thoughts on WRX/STIs
this reminds me of when i went from my g35 to a mazdaspeed6😭 best choice ever awd vs rwd in the weather is like nothing else
Have you driven a Type-R?
Just got one not too long ago, and I feel the same way you are about the STI.
Never got a chance to drive one so I was wondering the differences outside of the AWD.
13:20
Drew: its raining
but he wear sunglasses 😭
Have a 07 sti you should try driving the gd chassis there so much more raw
I can’t live without my STI. I blew up the engine, and I learned just how much I love to drive it.
Can’t wait to get my STI on the road here in the next few weeks
You should let Subaru Master Bader do some of his wizardry on your EJ😎
why did he look so serious when doing that pull lmao
I feel "Its more fun to Drive a fast car slow" came from a Hellcat owner"
Since MPG real bad
Love the video, when are you going to finish the k24 civic?
Drew, maybe you should actually review a G37. My dad had a G37XS sedan, and it was actually really fun! It had lots of power and handled really well.
This car was originally built to be beaten badly off the road on a Rally track and to battle the original Killer Bs. (B-Class Rally cars if you don't know.) It was then slightly tamed to be out on the street.
i just got a wrx recently , went from a genesis coupe to a wrx and man its so much more fun
As a wrx owner, I am happy to see you having fun with it.
You need to drive an Evo next
Love this vid keep it up drew ❤
A well maintained unmolested 335i x is an underrated car that's often overlooked because of "unreliability" issues.
if you have a catback and cobb intake for the car i would highly recommend getting an etune from the guys at brentuning. really wakes up the car not only do you get more power but you car runs way better and more healthy than stock or the cobb OTS maps
He’s not used to driving something that doesn’t have 800+ horsepower 😂 he forgot what it’s like to not fear for your life
Slow cars are fun to drive fast.
Because your maxing out what it can do, revs, handling, etc.
Edit: drew makes my point 9:39
does this gen of sti suffer from oil starvation? does it need a baffled oil pan?
High g turns and donuts will starve it. Definitely worth it to pick up a killer b or iag oil pan kit.
Why does this video title reminds me of Scotty Kilmer 😂🤣😂
I still stall mine once in a while 😂 you’re not alone. Dope review bro ✌🏽
Too late bub we don't want ya!
Just teasing, nice looking pickup. 1st thing keep it as stock as possible, 2nd and most IMPORTANT get the reliability mods done ASAP
KillerB, or IAG oil pan w/oil pickup and baffle
KillerB, or IAG AOS
Cylinder 4 cooling mod
Always use Subaru OEM Blue Coolant
Motul 10w40 oil
Once the reliability stuff is done you will have a solid platform that will give you yrs of enjoyment as long as you keep up on the maintenance items properly.
Put some upper strut tower braces front and rear and will handle even better, have them on my 2013 crosstrek xv and handles like a dream!
Which has a hps cold air short ram intake and also a axle back nameless 5 inch muffler, gives it the perfect subie growl!
Love my WRX. I was shocked to see you pick up a Subaru after hating on them for so long, but I knew you’d change your mind. I think a lot of enthusiast cars out there that get a lot of hate are usually just misunderstood for what they are (like golf R, BRZ, Veloster N etc)
I miss my 11 sti, and got a 18 wrx not sti and have the worse rev hang from 1rst to 2nd gear, still love it and cant wait for warranty to expire lol
use a stock 2018 wrx as a daily and its great. makes boring trips just a little more exciting
I didn’t know how fast sport sharp built boost until I got curious on the interstate. Normally the “sport mode” doesn’t do much but damn.
shouldve gotten 19+ i think was the year but they have the type RA block bottom end is much stronger for engine mods also youve changed alot lol i could see you ripping this thing apart in rice or nice once you saw the stock engine bay lol
Yo drew thank you for helping me procrastinate oh btw did you know spelling procrastinate helps you procrastinate
Also drew… thro a blanket on that back seat for the puppy so u don’t mess up ur seats n if they do mess it’s on a blanket man. Thank me later
Those new 2.0t accord sport cars are actually pretty quick and look pretty dope on bags
Drew, how much boost you running I have a 15 wrx, with an sti turbo and intercooler and im pushing 25lbs
daily a 2015 STI. if you wanna make it fun without going full racecar. throw a cobb 20g turbo. gains hp through the whole gear instead of fallin on its face around 5k
There’s a hill assist option check if you have it on bc you tend to stall more when it’s on
Can’t believe the first car to defeat drew was the STI 😂 W, excited for more subi content
imagine standing outside of your house filming yourself talking like this. LMAO thx for the content but...couldn't be me.
