blanchetv Random question? Your book arrived today and I’m making this recipe but in the video you say equal parts of sumac, sesame seed, and thyme but the book has different measurements? Should I add more sumac and toasted sesame seed?
@@cherilynellis9157 First thank you for getting the book! Often times when I make a video, I still experiment with the recipe until I like it even more. The recipes in the book reflect that further experimentation, so I would use the book recipe first. The rest is a matter of preference, for instance you can't go wrong adding a little more sumac if you like a more lemony flavor, or a little more sesame if you like a nuttier flavor. Thanks again and hope this helped!
in Lebanon used to mix it with omelet , other times mix zaatar and labneh in the omelet and the secret is you have to stir everything while being fried best way with buttter and do not mix the zaatar with olive oil when making the omelet , today can not use yok so i use egg white and zaatar and onion . try zaatar and white cheese , man-ouchi with tomatoes and or with onions , barely sprinkle some with salad but lots with omelet . When making man-ouchi for variety crack some peanuts and pistachio mix with zaatar peanuts smaller pieces than the pistachio
I'm Indian, born an raised in the middle east, and vegan and I feel like I have such a vast amount of flavors / ingredients / herbs in my cupboard. Food never gets boring. Having Syrian Za'atar, toum, khoobs, tofu feta and watching this :)
I got zaatar as a gift from a Palestinian shop when I bought olive oil. I mix the olive oil and the zaatar in a container and I put it on kebabs and falafel wraps. Will be making scrambled eggs!
As a Palestinian myself, I am so happy that you are proud of your heritage and that you love your country Palestine and your hometown Ramallah. We are proud of you
I came across Za'atar for the first time last year and I haven't looked back since. I am completely obsessed with it and sumac. I just made a cucumber and red onion salad with those two and omg the flavor explosion.
As a Palestinian I snort zataar every morning to wake me up. JK, I love it just with olive oil and bread. But I tried it with eggs for the first time, I have no idea why I never tried it before, new addiction!

First time I had that was in Jerusalem just dry without the oil with the HUGE fresh sesame bagels with loads of sesame seeds. I have been a fan ever since and with oil it is so wonderful.
Great!! thank you! I am half Syrian from Los Angeles and grew up with my dad eating zataar all the time with bread (baked on). I actually just bought some pita and zataar today and went on youtube to find a way to put them 2 together and didn't think of dipping it, DUH! lol.... We usually get our fresh Zataar + bread baked at Forn Al Hara in Anaheim, CA. its great there. great reviews on Yelp too!
Anaheim has the BEST Middle Eastern markets, so lucky you! Need to check out Forn al Hara (which means oven of the neighborhood in Arabic) next time I am in town, thanks for the tip!
Thank you beautiful lady for sharing your culture and cuisine! My mother in law brought some Za'atar back from her visits to Middle East and I ate this delicious Za'atar until it was all gone! Loved it!
Hello Blanche from our farm in New Hampshire! New subscriber. Found your channel while searching for Za'atar recipes. I am going to a predominately Mediterranean Diet and this spice combo showed up in my new cookbook. My favorite ingredients are olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, eggplant, olives, rosemary, thyme, sage, curry blends, seafood and chicken. So looking forward to following your channel. This cooking lifestyle brings a welcome 🌴🌴🍆🍅🍋 warm dimension to my New England cooking. ~ Diane
so happy you found us and welcome to the channel! 🤗 If you love those ingredients then this is definitely the right community for you. Have a look at the hundreds of recipes posted and hopefully you will find something to inspire you. I divided them by playlist so that hopefully you can find what you need easier. 👍
Thank you! Another fantastic video. I'm obsessed with the Levantine Cuisines. I eat so much Za'atar, Sumac & Pomegranate Molasses. I sprinkle over everything, from my salads, in dressings, over hummus or moutabel, over my falafel(with red onion, tomato, tabbouleh, hummus in pita), tomato on toast too, lol. I suffer from Fibromyalgia & it makes such a difference! I also make a couple different Za'atar blends. I was given this Jordanian version which adds cumin, garlic powder, turmeric & a couple other spices which ups the anti-inflammation even further. One of my favourite things is Mujaddara (lentils & rice as you know, I love your mum in that video) I make with my Jordanian Za'atar, served with tomato, cucumber, red onion with lemon juice, sprinkled with sumac & of course fresh yoghurt! As you can see I was super excited to see your new video.
Oh I forgot to mention my emergency entertaining trick. I like making my own labneh balls & keeping in fridge ready to go. I drizzle some with olive oil, fresh herbs, lemon zest & sumac. The rest with pomegranate molasses & roll in za'taar, served wth homemade pita chips. It also works with goats milk chevre if ur out of labneh.
Wow Kerry thanks for sharing your story and so glad it has helped your fibromyalgia--your fantastic diet has so many wonderful anti-inflammatory elements in it! Love your idea of rolling the lebneh in the molasses first, then the zatar, very nice presentation!
Really glad I stumbled across your video and great recipe ideas, really looking forward to trying eggs like this and great to learn of how healthy this spice blend is too
I shop at a local middle eastert market alot and I've been using sumac in place of salt , it's very tasty on veggies now I'm going to have to buy za'atar. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, I love in Australia and have eaten za'atar for many years for breakfast. My favourite way is to have it on tomato or avocado on toast. It's delicious 😋
Chopped hard boiled eggs+ brown rice+ chopped olives/pickles+ tuna+ capers/roasted red pepper/chopped anchovies...+olive oil to taste+ a generous sprinkle of zaatar is a delicious comfort dish I once put together by using scraps from my pantry that has become a staple since. Very customizable also. I've been using zaatar for years so much that at this point I can say I've become addicted
Yesss! It seems like za’atar is the new “it” spice and that makes me so happy! And you’re totally right, my tete would ALWAYS tell me to eat zeit w zaatar before a big exam 😂 all you need is cheese and a good cup of shai and it’s the best meal ever!
Thank you so much for this. I'd never tried za'atar and asked for some for Xmas and now I have a nice jar of it. Your suggestions were exactly what I was looking for. I'd also be interested to know if you have some suggestions for using baharat; I bought a big jar of it along with my beloved ras el hanout, and while I use the latter in EVERYTHING I'm a little stumped finding a way to let the baharat really shine.
Baharat works the best with ground meat to make shish kebab style, or as a marinade for chicken and lamb with olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice. Hope that helps!
I like to store za'atar in the fridge to prevent the sesame seeds from going rancid. But generally Arabs go through so much of it so quickly they just keep it in a container in the pantry. Depends on how quickly you eat it lol.
I'm gonna have to get some of that has many benefits I eat turmeric in my food alot I remember u saying it's very healthy for u with alot of benefits to

Thank you for this. After hearing you mention za’atar so frequently, this was the video to push me to try some (thanks Tara and Eloise for suggesting). I tried it three of the ways you mentioned: zeit u za’atar; mixed with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper as a salad dressing; and the scrambled eggs and goat cheese. Baharat makes a great rub for any kind of meat or chicken before roasting the the oven. Even kabob you can combine baharat with salt, pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice and grill the kabobs.

1 1/2 tablespoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon paprika
