Breitkopf & Härtel was uncertain about the authenticity when they would publish all Mozart's works in 1799. It could be composed by father Leopold but this music feels more classicistic. I would think that it is composed around 1768, probably by Wolfgang. Anyway, it is a wonderful little symphony!

I liked it... And the First and Third Movements sounded plenty "Mozartean" to me. (The Second Movement had at least one noticeable voice-leading error, but it, too, was very good.) Whether or not Amadeus, or even Papa Leopold, wrote this, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@felixgerstner554 I just heard this Symphony on KBAK this morning and the Host said it was believed Mozart wrote this, but it was proven not true. No one knows who wrote it so this is officially now known as "Symphony in A Minor by Anonymous"
When visiting London, was this eight-year old boy then capable of writing a full-scale "Sturm und Drang" symphony? I don't think so. This symphony also seems slightly too advanced, when comparing it with those few youthful symphonies that Wolfgang Amadeus actually did compose during his stay in London. Even though he was a musically highly gifted child, one must also remember, that at in 1764/65 he was still in the process of learning how to compose music of his own. At that particular time he was writing down music, at this level of quality: th-cam.com/video/7hu23UnKfnA/w-d-xo.html
I think a Dutch collector has the original manuscript in sketches of this symphony. It has been hiding from the public for centuries not until recently.
started by Mozart, finished by Sussmayr :) Well it's the old Shakespeare argument isn't it? You say that Shakespeare didn't write the works under his name, but you can't prove he didn't and you can't say who did. Same situation. There's not a single element here that isn't imaginative and elegant, which are the same qualities of all Mozart compositions. It was a very talented composer who wrote that, and who else in Germany/Austria really had the talent? It's definitely not Italian or English. But my strongest persuasion is that the more it is played in Mozart style, and here I really must reference the Odense Symphony performance, the better it sounds.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. Bertrand Russell I heard the first performance in 1984 in Odense, and I immediately thought it didn't really sound like Mozart. And I still think it was most likely made by somebody else. But on the other hand most artists occasionally create works in which they experiment with other styles. So I really don't think there's any way to be sure. Would Salieri have been able to write like Mozart? Probably not. Would Mozart have been able to write like Salieri? I think so. He might even have been able to write like Salieri attempting to write like Mozart.
"Most probably spurious"??? It's CLEARLY Mozart made... Well, it's very known that Mozart was very negligent with his works, he didn't copy, taking notes, etc, maybe because he could have written it down again from head at any time, but he just forgot no one lives for ever :(( It can be a late reconstruction based on Mozart's sketches, but it's clearly Mozart and, if it is a reconstruction, it's a very well done one, hear and judge yourself...
Well, there are things you can't explain, but I can't think another composer could writ down this piece, just a "feeling" or "6th sense", when I hear this piece, I hear Mozart... :)
If this symphony in A minor had been presented as a work by Leopold Anton Kozeluch or Johann Baptist Vanhal, I wouldn't even have raised an eyebrow. But ... Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? No, somehow I seriously doubt it.
Probably this symphony was written by one of I S Bach's son to whom Johann Christian Bach has a copy and given to the young Mozart for study purpose which the Mozarts took along with them in their travels.

Any individual who is "truly obsessed" with classical music, "truly obsessed" meaning of course that: One must know the life dates, harmonic tendencies , melodic Vs. motivic structure (phrase, period and and larger forms such as binary, ternary, etc. ... ), intention, context, reason for why any given composer composed any work published or not published. After obtaining the previously stated knowledge one will begin to understand the composer. Because we have the internet, youtube, and technology at large however, Music, Art and Performance as well as Religion, Spirituality and Morals, have rapidly declined in our society, is this a coincidence? One who obsessed over Mozart, will know upon 5 seconds of listening, that this was NOT COMPOSED BY WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART. It is only a disrespect to the great composer to think for a second that this piece was composed by his hand. I apologize Wolfy for not knowing sooner.
Good music... but It is absolutely not in the style of what Mozart composed in his beginnings... It is absolutely not compatible with the style and drive of KV16, which has an irresistible pulse and forwardness I miss in this work. To be honest, only the second movement shows sparkles of Mozarts irresistable lyricism and repetitiveness, as in KV16... but furthermore I am not at all convinced this is authentic young Mozart...🤔🤔🤔
It could be by Mozart, but not his usual original and unique style. Mozart was not a composer to follow fads and fashions. The Sturm und Drang he almost completely ignored, and he wisely bypassed it. This could well be his acknowledgment of that particularly mediocre movement, if he did compose it, although it sounds more like Haydn, who was not in Mozart's league
THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT BY MOZART hence even Spurious. And besides I read the Spurious part, at first hearing to my surprise I thought this is insanely low in quality & not genius by any means. It’s Leopold if anything! This by far is most definitely not of genius quality for absolutely being sure based on what I am hearing. This also does not have the highest & purest of light in it that the soul of Mozart has. This in fact sounds more of old fashioned Classical with more Classical era parts in it of the 1770’s. It’s written by an older spirit with the strong influence of W. A. Mozart. And that is very most likely his own father..
In my opinion, the two outer movements sound very much like Mozart, but the middle movement sounds almost like Michael Haydn or even Leopold. The dilemma of this symphony has puzzled musicologists for years, and all we can do is wonder who composed such a wonderful work, whether it be Mozart or not.
