More than anything this pilot sounded annoyed that he had to turn back. He was like "I just want to get this flying over with and go home, I don't got time for this"
No pilot of a commercial airliner is happy that they have to return rather than complete the scheduled flight. It's a mess for their schedule, for the airline and for the passengers. NOBODY is happy... And the bird is likely splattered, so it didn't have a good day either.
PDX has the distinction of being the only airport that I've ever had a bird strike at. I was on final for 28R in a Cessna 172, and we heard a wierd bang. it was right after sunset! After we landed and taxied in to Flightcraft, while tying down I noticed an inspection panel on the right wing with feathers, skin, bone, and blood stuck in it 😢 I called the tower cab on the landline in the FBO and let them know.
I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often...having a airport on a river with migratory birds everywhere! As usual, great job AND it's nice to see the aftermath of the strike
when we roasted a few birds it never made it into any sort of news of aviation database. i assume this happens daily, business as usual for the most part.
There’s been many birds migrating through Oregon according to the experts on this , the Audubon experts were asking Portlanders to actually turn their lights off at home at night as lights can confuse the birds .
looks like the plane sat in PDX for about a day and a half, then on May 5 it did a PDX-SEA rev flight and continued doing flights on SEA-SNA for a few days. In other words, it was only out of service for a day.
@@jenniparker1 Took the words out of my mouth! One of the funniest TV moments ever besides how the live remote feed played off the Hindenburg disaster - "Oh the humanity" as thuds can be heard. You couldn't do an episode like that now because it would "offend sensitive people". If you want a real world example of stuff going sideways (on film) search for the time when the Oregon department tried to dispose of a dead beached whale with copious amounts of dynamite. It's just about as good.
Alaska should have given way to traffic approaching from their left. That bird did nothing wrong. Plus I don't think it would be in the mood to run into any more planes for that day.
CAn someone explain to me what the ATC instruction “ use caution” is supposed to mean. What is a jet liner supposed to do when it crosses paths with a bird? Stop. Perform a snap roll. Vertical dive maybe?
Yea not much of a mark but to me it looks like the nose cone separated a bit from the body of the aircraft. That dark colored line right under the blood smear looks like a gap... They can't be flying around like that now can they right? lol.
Hope it didn't hurt!
I'm wondering if it bombed some poor unsuspecting passerby (animal or human) when it hit the ground. That would be a doubly unlucky day...
@@eternalfizzer At that altitude, it probably fell in the river.
It's gonna leave a mark.
@@DrMackSplackem Probably on its beak. I bet it couldn't eat for a week.

Shit ton of paperwork and pissed off customers
I didn't have this feeling at all watching the video tbh
@@brunotcs Well for sure the pilots are pissed but they maintained their professionalism. And that's okay they are also humans not robots.

How this should have gone:
"A big bird hit me on the nose."
"Do you require medical assistance?"
Call an ambulance, but for him, not me.

It does happen often, we just do not hear about them unless it affects the flight severely.
when we roasted a few birds it never made it into any sort of news of aviation database. i assume this happens daily, business as usual for the most part.
Port wildlife control is very busy here, I've had to call them a few times when I see a group of birds hanging out near the taxiway.

Possible aviary pilot deviation!..take down number when ready.
Big Bird, Squawk oh oh oh oh.
Goose is dead. You fly jets long enough, something like this happens.
Bravo. 👏🏼👏🏼.
And timely as well, 👍🏼
That gubment drone operator is gonna be scrubbing latrines till the stains shine

birb better get a paper and pen ready
What is red and flies through the air?
A plane with a nosebleed.
Great job of the ATCs, you can also hear that ATCs like their jobs when they use "good morning" or "welcome back"
They took “getting it on the nose” quite literally. 😂😂😂😂😂
Was this the ATC transmission for the WKRP thanksgiving day turkey drop!?🦃
"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

Always great videos VASA and thank you. Just plain yuck, eww, wet weather here at ORD.
What's wrong with wet weather?

Do they paint “proudly all Boeing” on their airbuses or just boeings?
So the bird tried to play chicken with an even larger bird?

Thank you very much!👍
Can you cover the C152 accident at KMWC (Timmerman Airport) yesterday (26 May), N4978B? It occurred between 1951 and 2000Z. @blancolirio
Is it true that when a bird bounces off a 737 it goes Boeing, Boeing, Boeing?
Good one!! Just a little ouchie!! LOL!! Glad all were safe. . . well, except the bird. . . I'm sure he probably didn't do so well. . . 👍✈✈👍
Sweet! England!
maybe the bird should call tower
Safe Landing. Safe job day.
POW, right in the kisser!
I hope the bird is doing fine also.
Too bad the internet wasn’t around when they hit the fish out of Juneau
flap-flap-flap-flap-*SPLAT!*
Rumor is, the bird is fine. He is just pissed at all amature pilots in the air these days. 😆

Hardly a mark on the nose, just a bit of blood maybe.

Big bird for sure 😅
Poor lil' bird 🐦
Maybe planes should broadcast a sound that deters birds away from it ?
Maybe birds should be required to have a transponder and communicate regularly with ATC
I believe that's called a turbofan engine.
Thank God Ostriches can't fly.
Big oof.
