I'm a white male between the ages of 25-35 who enjoys casual heterosexual sex with his wife of 6 years. We are still in love with each other, but I've noticed that the fervor has been steadily dropping as the years wear on. Is this the right knife for me?
After watching this Vid about 50 times since it was posted, finally bit the bullet, just purchased a Halo V, I am loving it and hating you at the same time. Keep up the great work and the old school KRVs
Just a note on the storage of knife in open or closed position. Springs are only worn down when they have work done upon them, ie compression or decompression. When the spring is compressed for a long period of time, it is not weakening because there is no work being done on it. My justification: PHYSICS.
I just pulled my Halo lll out .I bought mine in 2002 ,mine was made in 12/2001 . I have the sheath it came with and also a kydex neck holster and a belt style one . Mine is all black with rear serrations on the blade . One of my all time favorites .
I really hope they continue with production of this model; maybe one day I'll be able to afford one. I think it would make an excellent backup weapon, maybe carried IWB in a custom kydex sheath. Thanks for the review, your videos are always interesting and well thought out.
nutn you gotta watch 24! Best series ever. Jack Bauer was like "What kind of ordinary businessman has a Microtech Halo??" LOL. Anyway good video as always, thanks!
love the halo, there is a whole community of us who carry $300-several thousand dollar knives daily - not a dick measuring thing for me at all hell 99 percent of people I know have no idea about the knives I carry - its just all part of being a knife nut, not to mention in certain cases is an investment.
Someone may have said this before me, but the notch meets up with the button post when retracted keeping the blade secured. Could be handy with a firesteel though.
I love my halo. Pretty sure even used i could recoup my investment. Not really worried about that though. Microtech does make some quality products. This is one of them. This is one of the best OTFs ever made. Definitely purchased it for that second kind of cool. I did cut stuff with it and sharpen it. Why buy something and not enjoy it. I've seen a hard use video of this knife and it did very well.
Hey Nutnfancy, could you do a review of the Visol storm lighter? or perhaps a similar high performance backpacking 'torch' style lighter? I'm looking for one now and not sure what to get.
I'm surprise with the authority that it comes out. Like you said, not going to go through the hand, but it's cool how fast it comes out. Good looking knife too.
That is a BIG OTF knife. 2nd kind of cool, high-end carry knife. Makes my Camillus look like chump change. I'm sure it's high quality, a real tailormade knife. But like a Colt Python, I probably could never afford one.
on the topic of storing OTF knives closed. How do you think the manufacturer stores them? Or the distributors? So that knive has been stored closed for quite some time. Just a thought
That half-moon looks like it might sit where the deployment button exists. Perhaps if it were opened up, we'd see that it is part of the deployment mechanism. Luckily, OTF are legal in my state to buy/own/carry, etc, so I'll keep an eye out for an OTF to add to the collection.
I was lucky enough to pick one up at the 2011 Blade Show. The 17th Airborne logo on the blade was suggested and collaborated on by an actual Veteran according to the gent that I talked to at the Micro-tech booth. So nice, It is an official 'safe queen' along with some other treasures. About $650-700 by now.
I had a H2 when I was in the Marines. It was fun but I preferred a fixed blade in the field. Two weeks of staying constantly wet from rain, sweat, and humidity would not work well with a knife like this. These days I mostly carry my Spyderco Military.
What kind of paint is used there to paint that knife? I know it couldnt just be spray paint as that would come right off in a week.what would be used to get a lasting finish like that??
It's anodised, not painted. the color is literally chemically bonded to the metal. I don't know how it all works but you would need some spendy equipment to do it at home.
How fast can you pull the knife out of the sheath, and then deploy it, compared to deploying a standard pocket clip tactical? Cool knife, but i think talking about practical uses for it is a bit fantasyland. I like HEC knives, but i think most pros will be using a fixed blade, even one like the Gryphon M10 over the Halo.
If I remember correctly microtech has single action and double action knives. Double actions stop with any resistance the blade faces when deploying. Single actions don't.
You ever get one of these for yourself Nutn? I said I would never get one because of the price. Then I found a black handled half serrated Halo V for $200 in a surplus store outside of JBLM and had to get it. I also bought two gently used SureFire Scout lights for $70 each at same store.
All switch blade laws are outdated. In the states atleast, they all started during the prohibition days. If cops wanted to stop a suspected booze gangster, but didn't have probable cause, they say " Hey it looked like you had a stiletto in your pocket,so we're gonna search you." And nowadays you have super liberal politicians saying things like " Oh you could hold it up to someone's stomach and deploy it into them!".
Here is a few you may want to look at. Top recommendations from me: Para2 if you can fin one Military if you want the size Manix 2, amazing for the price, and has the XL if you want to go big And the Junior, it is somethin different, but I love mine. Others to look at: Navaja Air, more of a gentleman knife, but an amazing steel P'kal thats a interesting one The sage 1 and 3 I think. I know the Ti Frame and the on with bolsters are more than $150 Yojimbo 2 Dess Horn, another classy one. Something you may consider. I really like the ROC that just came out, but it may not be out for a while, and I am not sure of the price, but a complete shot in the dark is $130ish
keeping a knife spring compressed doesent bother the spring steel its the constand movement that fatigues the spring steel rather than just being kept compressed .. same with crossbow prods keep em cocked = fine
Wow yeah the halo 5 is sick! Must say though the holy grail is the nemesis 4. Hands down. Get your hands on that knife if at all possible. So nice, I own one and it may be the nicest otf ever made.
You like how the blade sticks out how could you like that I think youre the only one buying them.I handled one and couldn't believe why it was like that its unfinished why open it the blades allreadt out.nothing compaires to the one true halo 3 and v the h4 is garbage
?? Do you even know what your talking about?? Blade sticks out of the front?? The nemesis 4 sold out in a matter of days and to this day is the most sought after microtech of all time. And the blade dies not stick out the front not sure you know what your talking about...
Oh, yeah, that is on cool knife. However, $585.00, ouch, I just purchased a Glock 17 for less than that. Although, it would be a cool knife to add to my collection for it does have that second kind of cool. I really do like that Ultratech knife too. Great video!
Still astounds me that Nutn gave Desert Tactical Arms SUCH A hard time and sour review for having a higher price when you really get what you pay for, and he's cheerleading $600 OTF knives. I have no problem with this video just be consistent.
I feel terrible for pointing this out because I have the utmost respect for our military members but I am very distracted by that soldiers "rifle" at 7:05
That thing is sick i want one but at that price ahhh im good with my SOG Flash 2.. but i'd love to have it. But as you were talking about that little notch toward's the front of the blade i'm pretty sure that has do deal with when it's closed an when ya push that button bam it fly's open.... Anyway's that is one awesome knife.
nice lookin' knife. expensive, but it looks like it's a not shoddy at all. Not sure I'd go and buy an OTF for personal defense unless I'd gone through every little part to make sure it'd open when needed. But there is that distinct 'Clack!' sound that lets one know you're not screwing around.
yeah. while counting on such a thing is not a good idea, it certainly doesn't hurt. Hell, once scared off a pair of kids looking to get in the back door. with a can opener. big old metal one, had a nice clickCLAK to it...
Cool blade but damn. It would have to deploy ammo @ 1100fps before I'd consider it. lol- but I'm just a poor ole country boy too. That thang cost more than my truck! Still like looking at it though! Mikey :-)
The new show Marvels Agents of Shield just had this knife in an episode,. but i think it was with an alu blade cuz there was a person who bent the blade :D
The tanto end, (Te) and the spear end (se) I'm not sure, but the blade in this video is the tanto. It could also mean tactical edition, and the other mean special. I'm not sure but those might help
Don't like single action knives how many times u need a knife real quick then are done? Having to pull apart would suck if you had your hands full during an operation.
Totally agree with you. When I think of a knife an operator would want to use (or ANYONE out in the field) why would they bring something with them that requires a special tool to adjust/fix/take apart?
I'm a white male between the ages of 25-35 who enjoys casual heterosexual sex with his wife of 6 years. We are still in love with each other, but I've noticed that the fervor has been steadily dropping as the years wear on.
Is this the right knife for me?
After watching this Vid about 50 times since it was posted, finally bit the bullet, just purchased a Halo V, I am loving it and hating you at the same time. Keep up the great work and the old school KRVs
Now I think I'm beginning to watch it more than just a couple times. I think I'm going to have to buy one soon lol
I'm going to get one now lol. Just gotta wait for the one I want.
Just a note on the storage of knife in open or closed position. Springs are only worn down when they have work done upon them, ie compression or decompression. When the spring is compressed for a long period of time, it is not weakening because there is no work being done on it. My justification: PHYSICS.
I would drop $600 for that in a heartbeat. MT make fantastic knives and this has got to be the apex of their line.
so why the "would" as opposed to "going to" then?
Tactical Bushcraft 1. They are illegal where I live,2, they are scarce regardless. 3. I don't have $600
Thank god finally more knife videos!
These are my favorite videos! Love table top reviews
That round half moon nooch is for the release botton to deploy the blade
"AN ORDINARY BUSINESSMAN... WITH A MICROTECH HALO??"- Jack Bauer, before he threatens to forcibly cram a wet towel down said businessman's throat
Man that thing is BEAUTIFUL. Unfortunately, I'll never own one - I can't justify that kind of price.
I have a Microtech scarab and I carry it everyday and love it!!!!!!!!
I just pulled my Halo lll out .I bought mine in 2002 ,mine was made in 12/2001 . I have the sheath it came with and also a kydex neck holster and a belt style one . Mine is all black with rear serrations on the blade . One of my all time favorites .
Amen dude, don't ever sell it. These are some of my faves!
nutnfancy I can't the # is my birthdate ,Gerry
krazy45cat
happy birthday soon
I really hope they continue with production of this model; maybe one day I'll be able to afford one. I think it would make an excellent backup weapon, maybe carried IWB in a custom kydex sheath. Thanks for the review, your videos are always interesting and well thought out.
Nutn, you the best reviews on youtbe. period. your exerts and application is unsurpassed
Got my cold steel recon 1 last night!! Best knife I have ever had hands down thanks for the recommendation and quality reviews brother! Meet x mas
Great review, what a knife! Thanks Nutn
nutn you gotta watch 24! Best series ever. Jack Bauer was like "What kind of ordinary businessman has a Microtech Halo??" LOL. Anyway good video as always, thanks!
Badass knife!!! Have a few Microtech's but never picked up a V yet :) Nice video...
Stallone used one in Bullet to the Head...
the Halo was the best part of the movie.
Knifevids....thats what i want! :-)
Thanks Nut'n!
Pure old school! Love it!!
Oh snap, asked for this review a few times. I'm sure you didn't just for me but thanks for finally getting it done.
love the halo, there is a whole community of us who carry $300-several thousand dollar knives daily - not a dick measuring thing for me at all hell 99 percent of people I know have no idea about the knives I carry - its just all part of being a knife nut, not to mention in certain cases is an investment.
when i get a seb21 that will be my EveryDC. everydamn day
What do you think of the Ravencrest OTF knives?
Beautiful knife.
LOL you should check out the GIANT Microtech Marfione Custom Halo V 3X OTF. It's overall length is 32.25" and retails for $9,500.
12:09 The notch on the end of the blade locks on the button to hold the blade in. I hope by now you know this.
Someone may have said this before me, but the notch meets up with the button post when retracted keeping the blade secured. Could be handy with a firesteel though.
the notch in the blade on the tip is what engages the button lock when closed.
HALO knife vid just in time for Christmas, coincidence I think not. Oh the agony...
Finally a knife review! woohoo! keep it up nutn
You should call it "cuttinfancy" lol
That notch toward the front of the blade looks to be about where the button is when closed. Maybe...
Yes that notch is there to retain the blade in the handle.
FINALLY another KRV... The thing that got me hooked almost 6 years ago. Having said that, WHERE ARE THE SPYDERCOS??? :P keep it up man
Nutn, what's your opinion of the Cold Steel Bushman fixed blade? I'm considering the traditional blade (not the Bowie)
Hey Nutnfancy, could you do a review of the Visol storm lighter? or perhaps a similar high performance backpacking 'torch' style lighter? I'm looking for one now and not sure what to get.
Wicked blade! 2nd kind of cool
This takes me back :D
I'm surprise with the authority that it comes out. Like you said, not going to go through the hand, but it's cool how fast it comes out. Good looking knife too.
Hey, isn't this fateofdestinees second channel
That is a BIG OTF knife. 2nd kind of cool, high-end carry knife. Makes my Camillus look like chump change.
I'm sure it's high quality, a real tailormade knife. But like a Colt Python, I probably could never afford one.
The movie "Bullet To The Head" just made this a major collectible.
on the topic of storing OTF knives closed.
The notch in the blade is where the firing button catches to hold the blade in the handle, I think.
I was lucky enough to pick one up at the 2011 Blade Show. The 17th Airborne logo on the blade was suggested and collaborated on by an actual Veteran according to the gent that I talked to at the Micro-tech booth. Is the notch on the blade where the deployment button "catches" the blade to hold it closed? * lookslikeittome *
Great looking MT!
Now that's a beautiful knife....
This blade is finally legal to carry in Texas!!!! Whoohoo
Hey nutn, I made a video for you. Thanks for the hard work.
so excited for this review
Glad to see a KRV hopefully more on the way.
can it baton through wood?
I have wanted one of these since the first time I saw one I love the halo line and really wish they were legal where I live
Stallone used a Halo in "Bullet to the Head."
the Halo was the best part of the whole flick.
im surprised you didn't mention the lightning as a cheap alternative.

The Joker on the dark knight uses a microtech halo and a trodon. i love that movie, and if it wasnt illegal in my homeland. i would buy one
Very cool Blade
can you do a video on guard father spike that would be awesome?????
Finally a good production review
why 480 highest quality?
Please do another ultratech special run in TNP brown.
Just FWI HALO V's are in production right now.
What about the Benchmade Infidel or the HK (Benchmade) Epidemic? How do they compare?
Benchmade otfs are cheap and they dont last and are weak. Dont waste your money.. Get a microtech or a piranha...
Nice for a museum, now back to affordable common man tools!
Gorgeous.
why are they illegal in Canada ?
that such a fine knife
All switch blade laws are outdated. In the states atleast, they all started during the prohibition days. If cops wanted to stop a suspected booze gangster, but didn't have probable cause, they say " Hey it looked like you had a stiletto in your pocket,so we're gonna search you." Cole Hart i know, the law are outdated, i can do as much damage with a kitchen knife hidden in my sleeve
The notch on the blade engages the button to retain the blade until the button is pressed.
I'm looking for a spiderco edc that's not over $150 but I I'm not sure what. Any recommendations accepted
Here is a few you may want to look at.
Top recommendations from me:
Para2 if you can fin one

Something you may consider. I really like the ROC that just came out, but it may not be out for a while, and I am not sure of the price, but a complete shot in the dark is $130ish
Springs only wear down when they are compressed and decompressed many times.
I agree with your sentiment at the end: at that price point it's nt for me, but I get it.
keeping a knife spring compressed doesent bother the spring steel its the constand movement that fatigues the spring steel rather than just being kept compressed .. same with crossbow prods keep em cocked = fine

Nemsis IV review?
Why does it seem like that one comes out so slow? Like it's slow motion or something lol
Oh, yeah, that is on cool knife. However, $585.00, ouch, I just purchased a Glock 17 for less than that. Although, it would be a cool knife to add to my collection for it does have that second kind of cool. I really do like that Ultratech knife too. Great video!
I wonder how well it would perform if it gets dropped in mud.
Still astounds me that Nutn gave Desert Tactical Arms SUCH A hard time and sour review for having a higher price when you really get what you pay for, and he's cheerleading $600 OTF knives. I have no problem with this video just be consistent.

That's a good point - the sound on this opening is probably comparable to the sound of a shotgun loading a round.
yeah. while counting on such a thing is not a good idea, it certainly doesn't hurt.
Hell, once scared off a pair of kids looking to get in the back door. with a can opener. big old metal one, had a nice clickCLAK to it...
Thx for the review!
Nice knife but there was an "official" nutnfancy MT OTF that you did some time back that, to me, was WAY nicer.
Thx for the vid and Happy Thanksgiving
Beautiful
This looks to be a great blade
Sweet knife!
Instead of "indoctrinated" at 8:20, I'd say "seduced". More fitting.
Sooo Im probably going to buy the smaller version, the Microtech UTX. Dang it.
Do u know it maybe cost them like 10$ to make it
Cool blade but damn. It would have to deploy ammo @ 1100fps before I'd consider it. lol- but I'm just a poor ole country boy too. That thang cost more than my truck! Still like looking at it though! Mikey :-)

does someone know what the difference between T/E and S/E are with the Halo V i cant find this info anywhere
The tanto end, (Te) and the spear end (se) I'm not sure, but the blade in this video is the tanto. It could also mean tactical edition, and the other mean special. I'm not sure but those might help
love the KRVs!
Don't like single action knives how many times u need a knife real quick then are done? Having to pull apart would suck if you had your hands full during an operation.
You put OFT in the description
What I hate about my Microtech: Proprietary screws and the lack of grip. If they fixed those 2 problems, their knives would be so much better.
Totally agree with you. When I think of a knife an operator would want to use (or ANYONE out in the field) why would they bring something with them that requires a special tool to adjust/fix/take apart?
