We just got these legalized today in Indiana. Thanks to your review I've placed my order for my very first OTF knife. I'm stoked! I hope to have it this week.
Nutn! Stop with the rapid fire vids already! I just can't keep up. You are seriously monopolizing all my time, and my wallet is really light because of all the awesome things you sell me on like every other day. Wish I could afford them all to feed my addiction but alas, my the funds of a college student are very finite! Seriously though, keep up the great work Nutn! Cant get enough of it.
I love these knives! Be warned though. It is hard to just buy one. The quality is so nice it makes you want more and more Microtechs. haha I'm pretty sure I now have the TNP knife sickness.
I just bought my ultratech because of this review thank you for all the great information I enjoy watching all your knife and gun reviews keep up with the all the great work nutn.
man that urban camo Ultratech is out of control. I don't generally like camo blades, but that is the new "grail knife"! Great video. Loving your newer work a lot. Thank you!
I've owned 4 ultratechs. The main springs BUSTED in ALL four! I returned 3 of them to the vendor, (which they gladly accepted.) BUT- The bayonet model had to be sent back to Microtech via the vendor. (because it was used) It took 3 months to be repaired and sent back to me. So far, the springs have performed good. I think this is a common problem with Ultratechs. I have had the screws in the handle come loose also. (You need to purchase a special bit to tighten them!
My preferred blade type is the dagger style, since I consider mine a defensive knife. I have had it 2 years and have used it every so often if I really needed it, and I have never had to sharpen it. Great for digging stuff out of your skin.
Just ordered my TNP ultratech! Such a SICK looking blade! I'm so stoked, thanks for putting it together Nutn, I hope I'm in the top 20. That would shoot the coolness factor of the knife through the roof
They're re-stocking...they got caught off guard on how many sold. I guess they sold out in a couple of hours. $99 for that Pocket model...amazing deal for TNPrs from BladeHQ!
Hi Nutn, i purchased one a while back, the OTF DE model in black. (POU = emergency self defence). Love it! I chose it over the benchmade Infidel! I also purchased the Emerson-MT collaboration in black Tanto style, but it deploys out the side. Also very cool!
Cool knife Nutn. I don't know if I should ever own an OTF knife. I would be all, "Open" *giggle*, "Close" *giggle*, "Open *giggle*, "Close" *giggle* until the springs wore out. I wouldn't ever get any work done and it might just make folk nervous with me giggling and playing with a knife everywhere I went.
just a side note, good quality springs do not wear out from being stored in the stretched position as long as it is not over extended ie remaining in the elastic region for the steel. It is use that wears out springs. In addition some steel springs are designed with an infinite load cycle and will last for an incredibly long time but they have a break in period.
I'm a LEO looking for a DE OTF to carry on duty. I'm unsure of which blade shape to go with. I like the plain edge dagger blade so that it may perform better if pushed into a defensive role. However, I question whether the dagger shape can be used effectively when doing more utility tasks. I'm looking at the Combat Troodon as of now, although the Scarab or maybe even the Ultratech are not out of the question. Your thoughts, TNPr's?
LEO also here and I carry the dagger blade ultra tech. Its a very sharp blade, but tough to sharpen. I only carry as a backup defensive tool. If you are looking for a utility blade, get the single edge version.
The daggers and bayonets suck for utility use. I have a drop point blade and love it. Does everything I need it to and will pierce nicely. The blade profile itself decreases friction making for great penetration. No doubt the other blades will pierce better but the drop point works just fine.
Just for info...the cone shaped screw heads were designed to protect the knife handles from being scratched up from laying them down on a surface. A great benefit during the assembly of these fine knives. Also, benefits the owners when laying them down instead of putting them back into their knife cases.
Kudos for using BladeHQ there a great company . I've been buying from them for almost two years. They even have a lay away plan for the hardcore buyer. I wasn't sure if you would dig those guys . They seem like like a medium to large company. I know you prefer the lesser known companies.
I EDC'ed a drop point OD green UT for about a year and a half. Looking back on it I have to say it was the best EDC I ever owned. I hate Tony M, kinda a D-bag, but that UT served me well. It started having hang ups when firing until I drowned it in oil for about a week and let all the pocket gunk come out. After about a year they wear in to where they're easy to actuate. Eventually tho the misfires became too great in number and I sold it for a Protech Doru.
I love, and have loved all of my Ultratechs. In terms of sharpening the DE version, it can be done. I have a Lansky sharpening system, the kind that clamps onto the blade, and I was able to sharpen my DE Ultratech with it no problem. So, if you have a sharpening system like that, it works fine, can't speak to the EPA, though. I've had 3, and I can say that my one 2013 model is easier to deploy than my 2010 and 2012 models.
shad kochenderfer It will indeed! You just have to be real precise where you clamp it, you have that small flat part in the middle of the blade (fuller)
Thx for that Greenninja999- what do you say Nutn? I reckon it's down to aerial and ground combat experience. I am on board with the civilian carry knife option tho..as an EDC...man..it's all for show, but it's an awesome show for sure, I do like it, but not a ground units knife. Speaking of which, Greenninja999...what were your and your unit's fav blades? sth we can all expect, or maybe some surprises?
Nutn, I'm in tech school at Lackland right now and I recently asked about being able to carry automatic knives while on duty (for aircrew, I'm a 1A2) and the instructors were telling me that automatics were prohibited for duty use. However, you've been in the AF for quite a long time, and you're interested in knives, so I assume you know the truth. Can I carry automatic knives as an aircrew member while in flight once I become operational?
Sweeeet looking knives. Can't currently afford any HEC items in my EDC, but I appreciate them for their second kind of cool, no doubt. Look at all those TNP-isms :-) Keep up the great vids, Sir. We're lovin' 'em.
Nutn one of our Officers at work sells them. I got a Combat Troodon DE partially serrated in black, with black/stainless (combo color) blade. SWEET Knife. Love it far more then my DE Dagger Benchmade Infidel (Plain Edge) the blade steel, sharpness and lock up and just feels like its much better made then the BM.
Nutnfancy could you do a review on good leather holsters? I've tried looking for them on tactical and military surplus sites and they don't really have any nice ones. The ones I've found that are nice are on sites that don't look "trustworthy".
I think that these kind of OTF knives would be the only kind of blade that I would get a combo edge on. I would probably be using these OTF knives as last ditch or back-up knives times when you REALLY need a cut to be done. A semi-serrated would be my choice of blade for one of these Ultratechs
Hey I'm wondering should I get this knife is a a better one than the piranha otf I do avoid all benchmades because of the wobble in the balde but yeah just wondering
I would love to see a review of the HALO V. I realize that its a whole different level of expensive but I would like to know if it lives up to its reputation.
Hey Nutn, subscriber for a long time! Love all your videos when I have time:)....think there's anything you can do about the sound quality? Your video's are the only ones that put a little crackle through my speakers. I suspect the issue is not on my end... Keep Reviewing and run and gunning...love the life philosophies too!
i got the bladehq signature series w/ dagger blade from their bargain bin about a week ago. dated 11/2011. It was unimpressively dullyish from the box, but a couple of minutes on the sharpmaker and it is respectively sharp now. I am not going to complain because i got it 30%ish off retail and it is 25 out of 200 limited run so a bit of time on the sharpening stones on it wasnt huge, but it would have been nice to have the infamous razor sharp out of box knife i was expecting.
Nutn is crankin' the vids, trying to reach that 100M mark. He's going to celebrate by taking his hat off and showing us the top of his head. I dare you, brother! :)
You already reviewed the Infidel which you titled over priced coolness. Although to be fair, that was the double edge model which if I remember correctly, you said you borrowed it. Also, Microtech recommends Rem-Oil for all their knives.
Thanks Nutn, another great knife I want now. I miss my old Microtech, first knife I ever bought. Also first one I lost in a move :( Keep up the good work nutn.
I own a double edge knock off microtech ultra tech and I love the thing 2 death it is my personal EDC blade and has served me well I picked it up at a flea market for 15 dollars and hasn't failed me yet
I have had many microtechs. Too many some would say. When people speak of the drop in quality its a topic that goes beyond the funcionality of the knife and extends into the finer details that are harder to see. Put it this way. The new ultras are like a standard corvette. A very decent sports car and expensive for most peoples budget. The old UT knives were more like a hand assembled Ferrari. Both are fast capable cars that depending on the model may perform similarly but the given that the older ultras actually cost less than the new ones even when taking inflation into account it makes the old ones that much more appealing since you are essentially getting a ferrari at vette pricing. Or in your case 350z pricing.
I have had 10 OTF Microtechs. The springs broke on every one of them. The problem is that it took about 6 months to get each one repaired. They fix for free but you pay ship and handling. They wont sell replacement springs either. I love their knives but I will never buy any more because of that.
Great knife! I have one and carried it everyday for two years. I used and abused it. I just replaced it with the spyderco police. If I was to say anything bad about it it would be that the little screws come loose and I don't have the tool to tighten properly. If it gets the slightest bit of crap in it like pocket lint it will not fire so know your without a knife... How tactical is that? If it gets water inside it you will not be able to fire it! Ask me how I know. Like I said I carried m
I have a 11/2011 bayonet blade urban camo. Thought it was dull out of the box. After only about 6-7 months of having the knife, the main spring broke making the knife inoperable. I sent it back to Microtech and it took 2 MONTHS to get back. Now I'm a little weary of deploying the blade often because I don't want it to break again.
I don't agree, Nutn put it next to the sig as a go to war option, ...carry knife..cool, I'm with it, want one too...it is sick, but...if you gunk it up with blood and stuff then it's a one use knife..carry option tho...love it
Dammit TNP usually I only watch your gun reviews but I was bored at home the other night so I watched this video. Today i am now holding a microtech ultra tech urban camo otf ds and I can't put this thing down it got to me in 2 days super fast shipping. I've always liked knives but only had a few 20$ dollar SW for fishing and outdoors. I'm super happy I found this review. this is a awesome product for the price and I thank you for you Quality reviews.
gosh how do you afford all of these knives and guns! I love these knives you have been reviewing lately they are SO COOL! but how could a lowly joe such as myself hope to spend this much on a knife? cool reviews im sure they help some people, but ill stick with coldsteel
Yea my only complaint about my 2013 model is that it is hard to close and hurts my thumb. A little bit of remoil on the button helps but you dont want to over oil these knives or you will have problems
We just got these legalized today in Indiana. Thanks to your review I've placed my order for my very first OTF knife. I'm stoked! I hope to have it this week.
please do more microtech knife reviews! I cant get enough of them! : )
EXCELLENT. Just ordered my first MT for my birthday. Microtech Ultratech OTF D/E Automatic Knife (3.4" Two-Tone) 122-1. excellent.
Nutn! Stop with the rapid fire vids already! I just can't keep up. My mom would never let me get one. All I have is a multi tool with a really dull knife but my grampa is going to sharpen it
I just bought my ultratech because of this review thank you for all the great information I enjoy watching all your knife and gun reviews keep up with the all the great work nutn.
holy crap...Nutnfancy knife TV is at an all time high!!! Keep'em coming nutn!

YES!!! I just got that knife and love it! I am now hooked on Microtech. I am so glad to see the HEC philosophy come out in TNP. MORE PLEASE!!!!!!
Hi Nutn, i purchased one a while back, the OTF DE model in black. (POU = emergency self defence). Love it! I chose it over the benchmade Infidel! I also purchased the Emerson-MT collaboration in black Tanto style, but it deploys out the side. Also very cool!

I think this was an excellent knife review. I for one like the suppliers that you line for the viewers. Thank you. Take care....

Go for the tanto style! Good for piercing and still works great for utility :)
Thanks for the great review and discount Nutn! I just bought the camo version w. the discount from BladeHQ. I can't wait!
Just for info...the cone shaped screw heads were designed to protect the knife handles from being scratched up from laying them down on a surface. A great benefit during the assembly of these fine knives. Also, benefits the owners when laying them down instead of putting them back into their knife cases.

I am ELATED to see so many knife reviews being rolled out in the past weeks!
Yay more knife reviews keep them coming and we will watch. thanks for the great reviews

sherman614 I have the Lansky too and it works very well. With a little effort your blade can be flawless.

i wonder how otf knives would fare in a sandy environment, and how easily can they be cleaned
Sweeeet looking knives. Can't currently afford any HEC items in my EDC, but I appreciate them for their second kind of cool, no doubt. Look at all those TNP-isms :-) Keep up the great vids, Sir. We're lovin' 'em.
3 ultratech's!!! you must have one hell of good paying job/career.
Finally broke down and ordered one. Can't wait for it to show up! Dammit nutnfancy.
All types of 2nd type of cool. The price brought a tear to my eye, but maybe one day in the future. My Kershaw Skyline will hold me over for now.
Nutn one of our Officers at work sells them. I got a Combat Troodon DE partially serrated in black, with black/stainless (combo color) blade. SWEET Knife. Thank you very much...I'm trying.
would a case xx toothpick count as a HEC cuz it is pretty expensive for what it is
But Nutn didnt you do a benchmade otf review way back when?
Would like to know what you think of the microtech halo
Dude I'm digging the music at the end!!! What is it!?
do the companies give you these knives to review or do you buy everything?
OMG, been waiting for ever for this review. Ty, big microtech fan
Ordered one from gun broker, got a good deal. Didn't even know about them before I saw the vid. Thx Nutn for the review.
Hey I'm wondering should I get this knife is a a better one than the piranha otf I do avoid all benchmades because of the wobble in the balde but yeah just wondering
enjoying all the new vids!
each time he pulled out a knife I didn't think it could get any better but when he pulled out the last one I couldn't help but smile its so awesome
I would love to see a review of the HALO V. I realize that its a whole different level of expensive but I would like to know if it lives up to its reputation.
Where do you see 357sig ammo for the same price as 40s&w?
I just got a chill when you deployed that Ultratech, shame they're completely illegal in the UK :(.
I love all my microtechs but hate there customer service. It's just good you hardly ever need to use it. Another great video thanks.
i got the bladehq signature series w/ dagger blade from their bargain bin about a week ago. dated 11/2011. Awesome vid nutn one of the best yet
I would love to see a review of the Benchmade 810
I have had 10 OTF Microtechs. The springs broke on every one of them. The problem is that it took about 6 months to get each one repaired. They fix for free but you pay ship and handling. They wont sell replacement springs either. I love their knives but I will never buy any more because of that.
What?!
I purchased it from Blade HQ?
I think I might buy one with an elmax dagger style with a mirror edge, is 250 a good deal?
Just about try to get it for 230 as that's generally the best price. Good luck
Just got the 10/2014 ultratech and the spring rings when it's fired and closed. Anyone have the same problem? Any way I can fix it myself?
Legal in florida?
Great knife! I have one and carried it everyday for two years. I used and abused it. I just replaced it with the spyderco police. I'd love to see a review of the Microtech Troodon! Ultratechs are shweet and I'd like to see what you think about the Troodon and how they compare
All of these are awesome, but im with you on the double edge urban camo nutn!
Hm.. I thought the pommel knob glass breaker thingy was a tension screw for the deployment. That would've been the awesomest!
I don't agree, Nutn put it next to the sig as a go to war option, ...carry knife..cool, I'm with it, want one too...it is sick, but...if you gunk it up with blood and stuff then it's a one use knife..carry option tho...love it
Hey Nutn guess what? You reviewed the Infidel
Earlier today, I was craving an Indiana Jones movie.
Then the whip sound.
Could Nutnfancy make a great candidate to play Indiana Jones, in a movie?
I can just imagine TNP 5 years from now, where one of your 45min vids is a string of acronyms! Lol!
He should do a review of the Microtech Whaleshark.
damn now I'm going to spend $500 on two knives I can't live without. I lost my first micro tech
OTF it cost as much as a glock.
Keep up the good work
I was hoping a microtech would be rolling your HEC vid
NUTN'! Do a review of the Microtech Select fire Auto! I WANT IT!
Auto knives have will be legal to carry in Texas come 9/2013. I see a microtech troodon in my near future.
Nutnfancy you should review the Beretta 92fs!
nutnfancy between the dagger blade and the bayonet blade, which one would you recommend more?
Both are gonna pierce pretty well, get whichever is more visually pleasing to you!
I think I recall him saying he preferred the bayonet blades. Perhaps not in this video but I'm pretty sure he said it at some point.
+MegaKickass19 I have the Tanto edge Ultratech MT123-10 and I really like it.
hey nutn your should try and make a perfect match of SOG and SIG
NUTNFANCY HIGHLY APPRECIATE UR OPINION, WOULD U EVER BE MAKING ANY PRACTICAL PREPPING VIDS ITS A HOT TOPIC?
where can i find this list at 08:34??? please advice very important
The Joker, Heath Ledger, in the Dark Knight used the dagger in black and silver for his EDC, little fun fact.
Wise advice well delivered ;-)
But as always love the vids. Great knowledge keep them comming
nice review nutn :)
hey nutn you have a left hand right? keep on fightin! lol
These aren't considered switchblades???
gosh how do you afford all of these knives and guns!
Love all your videos... but do you think you can try and slim the time down to like 15 mins.
Off topic; How about a knife sharpening video. Great vids!!!
