Probably one of sweetest films. There’s real chemistry between him and the children. I bet they all had a blast as Jack Black seems to be a big kid himself.
Suspension of disbelief, I guess 😂 there’s no amount of soundproofing (short of building new, thick, steel walls) that could keep those drums from being heard in the next room.
I love the part leading up to this, when he's giving them all their "homework" and the fashion kid asks if he can do the wardrobe instead of what Jack gave him. And without any hesitation or problem, he just replied "Of course you can."
@@AGutBustinDrumSolo yep, I just thought it was great. no homophobia to it. no cheap gay joke. Just "yep, that sounds perfect given this new information I just contextualized about you. have at it! we need costumes anyway this is ROCK AND ROLL!!"
@Casey Coomer it seemed to be a popular bike path. Late night could have been a bar, gig or band practice? Just had a new band and played their first gig the weekend before I read. Dangerous intersection for the bicyclists. Another fatality like a month before. A witness and passengers of the car said light was green for the car. Did he fully run the red or did it change as he went through it? Supposedly there was footage and a request was sent in. Passengers were like 18-20, and maybe less. One wasn't aged, but last name of driver. Driver refused DUI blood test. Driver was given citations for going too fast. And driving uninsured. And I think without a license. Or this suspended it. But, also...A little over a month before that female motorist ran a red light. And was fined as well for not being insured. Same thing happened again. What were THEY doing at 1am as well?!? Crazy situation. Sad.
"Baby, we were makin' straight As But we were stuck in the dumb-days" I'm not sure why but I really like those first to lines of the song. Fun to listen to, fun to repeat myself.
What i love about Dewey's "class" is it's a Montessori class geared towards being in a rock band. "What are you good at? What are you passionate about? Lets teach you a variety of skills relevant to that." Those kids didn't learn any math, but if they never looked at a rock stage again, the feeling of pursuing a passion and following a wider approach to knowledge and wisdom will have changed them forever. Let alone the coolest story they could tell to all their friends.
Our senior music teacher was like this, granted Australian HSC music is mostly independent project, so there was a lot of benefit to the teaching style
This wasn’t Jack Black acting, this was just him in natural habitat, playing MUSIC with kids… and Linklater just happened to have a camera in handy. No other man could exceed what Jack Black brought for the lead, in my opinion.
Idk. Broadway found some excellent Dewey’s. Not Jack Black doppelgängers or impersonators, but similarly high-energy performers who had fun goofin around with some seriously talented kids.
One of the biggest assets of this film was how progressive it was for 2003. The film can even release today without arousing a single hint of criticism, that is how progressive it was. Black treating the children as equals, on screen and in real life, has more of an impact on those children than one realizes. The non-judgemental way he treats an effeminate child, in an era when such men and gay men were correlated as equals and gay men were almost always mockeries in comedies. You realize how major that is when you realize that despite this, Brian Falduto was bullied and threatened for being gay after this role. Then the entire film is basically teaching the children to embrace their flaws and make them their strengths. While this feels overdone in the age of self-proclaimed gurus on tiktok and instagram, this was revolutionary for a comedy film aimed at children back then. People do not understand the influence this film had on an entire generation of children growing up. It taught us that you are never useless, never ugly, and you have talent regardless of what the world says to you. That is inspirational. That is cathartic. Especially to a generation of kids who were, fortunately for posterity, the last generation to grow up without mental health acceptance and in taboo of therapy/counselling. The impact of this film goes beyond just being one of the most kickass musical comedies of all time, and it's high time we recognize that.
This is a great comment... I've been saying for years now that this movie shaped me so much and I never realized it as a kid. Watching it as an adult, it hit me so hard just how much of it really molded me into who I am now. This movie was a gift and there was nothing better than watching it for the first time as a kid. Still an amazing watch even after all these years. Can't wait to show it to my kids one day♥️

As I got older I find it funny how they expect us to think that the rooms next door couldn't hear any of this
But they *soundproofed* 😂
TRU. IN CLASSROOMS U CAN LITERALLY HEAR PPL TALKING IN THE NEXT ROOM
well at the very least they addressed it by putting in "soundproof" measures lol
I think that's why they made sure to include that detail in the script where he assigned the kids to soundproof the room lol
