Great interview! I just realized that both women played by Kate Winslet in Titanic and Revolutionary Road have the same struggle: Breaking free from the conventions placed on them. It’s interesting to see that in Titanic, Leo’s character is helping her break free, while in Revolutionary Road, his character is the one dragging her down, back into conformism. In both films, Kate’s characters are confronted to a deadly choice as a desperate escape: suicide attempt in Titanic and life-threatening self-induced abortion in Revolutionary Road. I feel very much for these characters who are just trying to be free and are feeling so much pressure to conform and do what others want for them. Social conventions don’t seem to be something spectacular... But these movies show how it can lead someone to desperate choices that endanger their life in order to escape it. Or how someone would sooner put themselves at terrible risk, rather that oppose everyone around them and actually break free. Being emprisoned in peoples expectations isn’t even an option for it feels worse than death.

He wasn't dragging her down. They had two little kids, he HAD to financially provide for them. He wouldn't have been able to do that in Paris. He had to stay at his well-paying boring corporate job in NYC to secure their children's future. When you have kids the whole equation changes.

It's sad movie
All this novel and movie is hypothetical shiit. In the real world no matter how rich and talented you are, making a mark and leaving a life of your dream supported by your talent is not easy and has to have a stroke of luck. Most of these actors never wanted to be in acting and may be hating their job or not liking as much as they wanted anything else they intend to do in life. Ultimately life is all about going through divine experiences, connecting with God, and finding love and peace everywhere without planning things out. That way we can lead a truly fulfilled life. People should not get carried away by imaginary novels and movies.
