One Rare Gemstone being an Indian (was a British colony & we use British English), I can relate to the , after the EXAMS, and LEFT school..😂😂🤣 We never “drop out”
real question: would you use that expression if she had pushed a year into (as someone else posted) "6th form college or university" but didn't finish? in US, the phrase is easily used for someone clearly smart enough to continue on w/ academic but takes another path ... so I'm genuinely asking, how do you phrase it for that situation?
Kate did not 'drop out' of school at 16. She attended a theatre school and completed her GCSE's, which are the British equivalent of graduating high school. She simply didn't attend 6th form college or university, which was not uncommon in the 1990's. Also working in a sandwich shop is a pretty normal (even good) job for a 16 yr old with no other work experience. Please stop with the rags to riches angle, she was a middle class teenager who already had an agent and had been on TV by the time she got lucky and scored a movie role. She doesn't need to be cinder-frickin'-rella for her story to be interesting. She's great anyway, so focus on the true bits and don't make shit up, it's insulting to both her and your audience.
Yeah, it's annoyed me as well. Only in the last few years are kids required to carry on with either 6th form or go to college or something in education.
What I love about her the most, is that she is a normal person, someone you can have as a friend. She also a real woman, her body, her face, not mentioning her talent.
Tim Hirst not true. You can leave at 16. However, depending on your birthday you may have to stick around until Christmas during 5th year of high school (this is just Scotland cause for some reason we follow the English law even though our school starts and ends at different dates). 5th and 6th year of high school is optional. Just like University and College are optional.
Light_n_Fluffy totally agree about both the need for an educated population and an increase in productivity. More educated people and we wouldn’t have to deal with the Brexit mess.
Light_n_Fluffy nowadays they have to either do an apprenticeship or be in education. My only point of the comment was that Kate Winslet didn't drop out of school at any age, so the video's title is wrong.
Definitely on of the best interviews I've recently seen. You can literally feel how Kate's exuding positive energy. So articulate, so artistic and so well-spoken. I'm enthralled by her. Bravo! Btw, Colbert's silent 90% of the time. Kinda weird.
This isn’t a dramatic title because you can leave school at 16 in the UK, and many people do. I did; I left school at 16 and joined the British Army, where I got my degree in Electrical Engineering. Leaving school at 16, you’re not viewed as a “high school dropout” like you are in America; many people choose apprenticeships over university.
There are kids in the UK who leave school before even getting the certification needed to leave school at 16. I don't know if Kate was one of them, but I knew of some.
Why would these actors and actresses make a film with a known pedophile? Woody Allen loved fingering his four year old daughter in her ass and pussy. Then he married his six year old daughter when she turned 18..So sad:-(
My reliable source is his daughter's articles!!! His son's essays..have you heard of him? This is the guy who is exposing the whole Weinstein rape allegations. Following Kate since I was 7 .now I am 25. My love for her increased every single day. Just like any other interview of her, she is total fun here as well.
it's amazing when you can see the good character of a person just by their demeanor and body language. She is meeting Colbert for the first time and it's as if they know each other for decades. You can't say this about many stars.
Revolutionary Road, Little Children, and The Reader are such phenomenal films and her performances are so brave and brilliant in each, I just can’t believe she only picks projects based on their titles 🤣
The fact that Heavenly Creatures was her first film tells you that she was going to be a big star. Her portrayal of Juliet Hulme, for me, is still her best role to date. Ammonite will come close though. 💕
I love her very authentic comment about how "sneezing might be a bit of a problem when you had three children". 😃🫶 I love that she just casually drops that. It's so relatable!
Stephen asks the perfect questions, things were all thinking of. For instance, child agent, I did imagine a child being her agent for a brief moment and then Stephen promptly asks that question. And then, did how she must have practiced practicing her lines, I was thinking the same thing. That is just such a perfect feeling to have, thank you Stephen Colbert.
I left school at 16, it’s normal in the uk. I completed and passed all my exams. Then went out to work. Nowadays high school finishes at age 16, then you have to complete your education by either doing 2 years of 6th form (which is still based in a high school grounds but the subjects you take are less and more specialised) or you go to college and do a 2 year apprenticeship. Then after that you can choose to go the university or not. But she did not ‘drop out’ if high school!
I guess the wording on the title caused quite a stir haha. UK Education 101: Compulsory Secondary School in the UK ends at age 16 (or Year 11) after you complete your GCSE exams. It doesn't matter what grade or whether you fail them, after 16 your school days are over. After that you can do an additional two years of education from 16-18 called Sixth Form (Year 12 and 13 of school). These two years serve to prepare students for further education at a higher level, and thus for their A-level (or equivalent) examinations. This depends on the course of study at higher level. Sixth form is not compulsory, so most students leave school in Year 11 and continue their own path. After you finish secondary school at Year 11, you can then proceed to higher education like College or University, granted you have the necessary grades for either, or do an apprenticeship. College entry is normally dependent on a set amount of GCSE's (or alternatives, such as life skills and experience, for certain applicants) based on the course or subject you decide to pursue. Sixth form is normally for students seeking to go into immediate employment or highest level education such as university, as A-levels or equivalent grades are usually required for entry. I guess A-levels sort of bypass the need to go into college for that particular area of study, where equivalent qualifications (i.e. BTEC's) can be achieved. Depending on the university, the course a student chooses might require several of these grades. There really isn't a set course. It just depends on the students goals and their career path. Though apparently nowadays students are required to taken on some form of study or apprenticeship until they are 18, but I'm not sure. But basically... School < College < University.
Glad to see Kate back, but Still no word on Allen sexually assaulting a child being an issue and that before continuing filming (if anyone want to film ith a child molestor) he should face justice ???
s3lfFish Maybe he is not facing justice because there is not enough proof to convict him. Justice is not served by public opinion. I'm not arguing that he truly is innocent, cause I don't know if he is or isn't. Just pointing out that justice needs to be handled by the courts and the system put in place to handle such matters.
She literally ages like fine wine. More beautiful with every passing year.
I love the fact that she sits around the table with her family to discuss wich role she should take! For some reason, it makes me love her even more
She's British, we all left school at 16 😂😂 she didn't "drop out" she said she left. There's a massive difference.

Kate is a TRUE beauty.. She still looks as gorgeous as ever, if not even better than she did 20 yrs in Titanic.. Wow! She is absolutely stunning!
She's one of my idols. As a pale redheaded woman who came of age in the 90s/00s she was a massive influence on my self confidence.

She´s one of the most genuine people in Hollywood, you can really tell she´s just good in her own skin and a wonderful person.
Kate is one of the best actresses there are, she’s excellent Titanic and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
I'm probably the only person that does not like Titanic. I do however, love all her other films.
Boco Corwin And you’re an idiot

Dunce. She wasn't being pretentious, just stating the facts. You're reading all that Cinderella nonsense into a straightforward story.
Thank you for clarifying. :)
i get that, but its called clickbait and all youtube channels use it so thats why its titled the way it is
I remember her in that Ray Winston’s sitcom.
