Fatal Crash, SUV Slams Into Semi

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, just after 2 a.m., Riverside Fire Department and California Highway Patrol, Riverside office responded to a reported person down, body in lanes on the NB 215 and the WB transition to the 60 in the city of Riverside. When the first arriving engines made it to the scene, they found a SUV in the gore point at the transition road to the westbound 60 with major damage and several other vehicles stopped in lanes due to a closure from a crash at the NB 215 and Center Street, about a mile ahead. Investigating officers determined that the drivers of a 2014 Kenworth tractor and a 2023 Nissan sedan were stopped in traffic. For unknown reasons, the driver of a 2009 Mercury SUV failed to see stopped traffic ahead and crashed into the rear of the semi and into the back of the Nissan sedan. The driver of the Mercury SUV was pronounced deceased by Fire Department personnel prior to CHP arrival. At this time, no other details are available.
