i came from a 6 plus it was dumb should of made it a dual speaker like they have in a ipad pro that is what i was expecting
It does have dual speakers one is in the earpiece and the other is at the bottom. How do you call yourself again... iOS genius... doesn’t sound so genius to me
iOS Genius a simple google search would confirm that the vent is a barometer to measure atmospheric pressure to know your altitude, that is what makes your gps know your elevation.

Haaa, I got a new replacement phone today because I went to a Telstra shop and complained that my left speaker wasn’t working.
So I guess the guys that fix the phones at the shop don’t know it’s a microphone and

Correct. This is the same with every other iPhone. The right Grill is a speaker, the left grill is a microphone. The earpiece is also a speaker for added surround sound.
I found this out in 1 google search, it’s not that hard to comprehend, or even find out.

Thank you for letting us know. I thought my phone was broken. I believe the other is a mic. When I record my voice it’s the loudest when I talk into the side that’s not a speaker. So it’s a mic.

There’s only one speaker there is no speaker on the left side, that’s where the microphone is and they removed the head phone jack because they are slow moving to an all wireless phone but they didn’t want to complete do that yet that’s why you get the earbuds in the box but in the near future it’ll be 100% wireless not even a charging port, And also there is technically 2(dual) speakers because there’s at the top of your phone that does actually play audio and not just for phone calls and there’s one at the bottom.

It must be a dual speaker but unfortunately it’s a microphone. I had a iPhone 7 which left speaker was not working So I bought a New iPhone X and the same problem exists in iPhone X too. After watching this video I can understand the left speaker is a microphone.

I agree as well with you. I watched alot of movies and videos and music on my iphone 8 plus and I can not understand why they did not make the speakers dual. Hopefully, there will be a fix for that soon

Does the loudspeaker is better in quality than the earpiece? I'm asking this because I realized that my iPhone 8 Plus does not have the same quality on both speakers.
It's seems that the earpiece gives a high frequency boost and the loudspeaker a bass/mid frequency speaker.

The holes on the bitter are and altimeter, barometer and microphone. The daily speaker comes from the main bitter right one and the top earpiece speakers which are plenty loud enough. No other iPhones before the 7 did this with the earpiece speaker.

One of the bottom grills is a speaker and the other one is a microphone. They become dual stereo speakers in landscape mode as the earpiece becomes the second speaker as it is a loud speaker in the case of iPhone 7 and upper models. There's no purpose of stereo speakers if they are not even a little bit far from each other. The bottom speaker is bass heavy and the earpiece speaker is more of like a tweeter which works on the higher end. Together they make great sound and they do work in stereo mode when in landscape. You had a 6 Plus which just had one speaker at the bottom and there was a 3.5 mm headphone jack along with a Microphone on the the left side of the lightning jack.
For past reference, check the earlier iPhones. 4 and 4S had two speaker grills on the each side of the charging slot. One of them was a speaker and the other was a mic and the 3.5 mm headphone jack was at the top. How do you think your voice gets heard to the other guy when you're on a call? Because its a goddamn mic not a speaker. They just wanted to make it look cool and symmetrical.
The second speaker is in the ear piece of the phone. Play a video and listen as though you are talking on the phone, there is sound coming out of the ear piece as well.

Just got the 8 Plus and noticed it a few days ago not sure why my right speaker works but not my left.

I just called Verizon about the left side speaker not working and I was told to take it to the Verizon store. So I’m not crazy and it’s not a speaker? I could of swore my phone sounded louder a month ago than it does now lol
Paul Tiburon It is probably wet. It happens to me all the time I get it wet. You should try to clean it and then try listening to your music or video that you want to listen:)

Actually it does have two speakers one of them comes through the speaker that you put up to your ear when you’re on the phone cool but it also puts up sound when you’re watching TH-cam for example on Netflix

With this there isn’t a missing speaker what they have done is if you are on a portrait mode on TH-cam sound will come out from both of the bottom speakers, however if you are in for example Netflix (landscape) you will get audio from one of the bottom speakers and the speaker at the top that you use to call.

Just found this out because I was paying close attention to my 8 and one speaker was making sound and I thought it was broken so I looked up any issues or fixes this is to horrible on apples part I’m not a Samsung fan because of many reasons but I know hey would do better than this

No, it is not a microphone. It is a barometric vent.

The right channel uses the right grill, the left grill is your microphone for using the phone, and the earpiece for the phone is actually your left channel.
On the iPhone 8+ it works as a mic when on the phone or face time

One set of them is for talking on the phone 🤣 so it can pick up sound

Misleading on Apple’s part? No, not really. If you review the Tech Specs, it displays the breakdown of the bottom of the phone. What ticks me off about the speaker. They classify it as a Stereo Speaker, not speakers. Correct me if I’m wrong, but stereo represents audio coming from a left and right channel, which is outputted to a left and right speaker(s). I also do not see a tweeter, midrange, or a woofer in this configuration. It is not “Stereo”!

I also have the iPhone 8 Plus and my phone audio plays only on the right speaker. But my audio also plays on the speaker on the top of my phone. It is pretty weird

It's always been like that since the 7. The ear piece is your second speaker to give you stereo speakers.
sure doesnt sounds like stereo speakers - they are probably using it to echo the sound but i saw a tear down and there is no space in there i was really hoping it was two speakers. Also if you cover the ear piece you can hear sound out of that as well. very odd my 6s plus was not like that.
iOS Genius That's what I'm saying. The ear piece is your second speaker to make stereo speakers. The bottom only has one. They started doing this with the 7 and 7 plus.
