The second altercation of this kind, this week we dealt with an attack injury and slowly rebuilt confidence on the walk to Oaxaca with some trail magic in between.
Another enthrawling video Lucy. Wombat means so much to you and you gotta do what you gotta do to ensure he is fit and healthy. Love your work. Geoff Shepparton Vic
Thank you for taking the time to film, edit and share these videos with us Lucy! It feels like we are along on the adventure with you. And I love the longer format than IG. SO GOOD!! PS: Wombat really is the cutest! I'm glad you're both being so well looked after. Much love xxx
Yay to you and Wombat! You have really showed us the tough times along with the consistent friendliness of the people along your way! An amazing account as always!!!
Soo engaging to see you travel in Oaxaca! My family and I stayed in Oaxaca city for a spell last winter on vacation and we LOVE that town. Have been following for a few years now (pre-covid) and is a joy to ride along. So glad Wombat is better and you both are charging!
Wow Lucy, so much story to unpack there. Gosh to be held up for 2 weeks after Wombats attack, frustrating but love how it created other wonderful experiences with the people there. To see the effect on you of those hard days and heat exhaustion days, so impactful, my heart goes out to you and Wombat; ditto re the constant fear 😧 of ticks. So much worse than leeches. And the 2000mtr elevation climb….. epic amongst everything else. And not to mention cheeky but clever Wombat. My dog Cookie is the same: will bark, a piercing bark, when she is not happy with me, and won’t stop despite 7 years of training. But oh so clever too… I love how Wombat waits to be advised of the direction to go. And the exploding Vegemite…. 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 Looking forward to the next instalment with your supportive friend, the mountain scenery and cooler temps, and the indomitable Wombat. 🫶 Keep cool and carry on…
Oh Lucy you’ve distracted me from work again 😂 I needed the break anyways Glad to see Wombat recovered well 🐾 Taka always looks my way when he hears Wombat chatting, happy trails ❤
Excellent video Lucy. You really are taking your persist motto to new heights. Waterproof socks! Who would have thought. I want some. If you ever find out the brand or supplier, please post.
I’m using Bridgedale. The ones I have are too think so I’m going to try another style or the SealSkin brand which I’m told have much thinner and as durable socks. I definitely recommend them. But I’m also still testing to see how long they last, and if I can get ones that I don’t sweat in so much.
Fantastic Lucy, thank you for sharing . ❤ back at you wombat . Love seeing your day to day and the gorgeous people you interact with. The ticks would freak me out . Take care
RE: Wombat/ safety It doesn't look like you use poles to walk (maybe you have the pole kit for your tent?), and I do not promote harm to animals, but you might consider walking with poles in your hand when dog packs are nearby. They are multi-use; stability for hiking/ joint support, tent poles, and protection against man or animal. I often clack mine together around blind corners to alert animals/ give them enough time to escape (mountain lions/ bears/ rattle snakes). If the dog that bit Wombat didn't immediately let go, you could've used poles to get their attention/ startle them enough to release their bite and run away. God forbid you should ever need to use them in a human interaction, but if you do, don't swing them, use the pointy end to push someone/ thing/ animal away from you so that you can run away. The idea is to use enough force to knock whoever off balance/ onto their butt, so you have enough time to get away. Keep safe sister.
@LucyBarnard thanks! Actually I do have a question. Did you have a fully planned out route when you started your journey? Or do you plan as you go with a general route in mind? Thank you, loving your videoss
@@zeldamaniac163 I plan as I go and am informed by local knowledge. Plus plans aren’t viable in South America… mine never serviced beyond a day! Srly!!
ok great haha that's sorta what I needed to hear. Sadly android doesn't have MapOut 🫠 but I did download some maps off of Google Maps. Are there features on MapOut that you find really helpful? 😃@@LucyBarnard
Bendiciones 😃
A mishmash of ones I draw out myself, suggestions from locals, hiking trails and cyclist’s routes. I’m not a fan of road walking so I look for trails and retired roads whenever possible.
If you can find yourself permethrin to spray on your clothes, tent, bag it would probably help you a lot, if you aren't doing that already. Hope Wombat is healing well!
It’s excellent. I’m holding off on an upgrade until some new features are rolled out that’ll make it even better… otherwise I’ll upsize because I think the larger version will really suit me. Their tents are top shelf!
Great video Lucy. The highlights, the lowlights, the joys, the frustrations, the ups the downs. So much happening in this update! I mean exploding Vegemite. 🫣 Who could have seen that twist in the story?
Great to hear about all the wonderful people you meet it restores one faith in human nature

@@LucyBarnard Lucy I have a contact ( Trail Angel) for when you get into US which I’ll send you , but not sure which way you will head north.
Probably a variation around the CDT

There’s a great book that covers the different type of dog aggression by Steve Austin, called working dog hero’s.
Super thanks 🎉 loooved listening. Good about the waterproof socks.
YOU’RE THE BEST! Jury is still out on the socks. But I’ll persist with them and let you know what I think of them and how well they last.
There's aplus side to being a solo female (but also added dangers) enjoyed vìd!
That’s absolutely true. I’d trade it in though to not have to deal with the macho crap. 🤷♀️
Your videos are truly inspiring! I'll be going on a backpacking trip through the wilderness of Thailand so I'm learning a lot from your experiences.

Hello Wombat 🤠
Great video Lucy. The highlights, the lowlights, the joys, the frustrations, the ups the downs. So much happening in this update! I mean exploding Vegemite. 🫣 Who could have seen that twist in the story?
Wombat was pretty happy about the Vegemite situation. My pants haven’t recovered though! Actually I’m in for a new pair soon!! They’re splitting!
@@LucyBarnard is it getting any easier to source gear as you head further north? Or will you be relying on another mule for your replacement?
Thanks
