It’s fun to try a different kind of episode this week. Don’t feel we have done such a relaxed episode in a while just hanging out, bobbing around and hoping for nature to swim by. Can’t wait to get the diving going soon. It’s a stunning place. Moorea and the Society Islands are a bit more mountainous compared to the Tuamotous which are all so flat. We will have to get out the hiking flip flops and explore more.
I had a nearly identical autopilot problem. In my case I had an inline fuse holder on a ventilation fan that was located near the flux gate compass. That fuse holder was faulty and would disconnect and reconnect the circuit..the subsequent spike in current completely messed with the autopilot's brain. Long story short....check any circuits and connections that run anywhere near the compass or autopilot. Loose connections hide and cause grief. Love your work, "colour" me impressed.
It’s a good idea to check for loose connections nearby. The location of the fluxgate is in a void between the two heads on one side of the boat. But I think there are a few cable runs there. Perhaps someone put a join in there back before we got Indioko. I’ll get digging in there to see. Cheers!
The coloring (colouring) confusion gave me a good giggle and great spelling word list vindication! I'm a homeschool mom, and my son wanted to know what possible reason I could have for making him learn the British spelling of words(color) is not the only one. Thank you for adding context and relevance to my word lists😂

It’s been a fun learning curve. The two dinghies definitely handle really differently. So far we have found the Highfield feels like it rides much flatter when on the plane. So you can see the bow cutting a wave much earlier than the AB. I have a feeling it might cost us more in fuel however but we will have to do some guestimates to work that out.
We had similar issues with raymarine sutopilot it was the rudder sensor. in the end a lightning strike made the whole thing absolut... so we now have evolution as you mention.
I’ve been wondering if it’s the rudder sensor. Our AP requires one to operate and with all the engine works we did, I wondered if it was unhappy being reinstalled. We will have to play a bit more.
@@RedSeas try to recalibrate, there's a calibration button on the display, switch that on and go a few circles to make the system recognize all positions its best to go like a figure eight.. its super annoying. I now I sailed at least 8000nm with no pilot..ones your used too it is hard even for a day
@@waltervanderboor Yes unfortunately that was the first thing we tried - we had some time to wait for the tide inside a pass in the Tuamotus so sat spinning in circles to recalibrate but no such luck. We’ll figure it out somehow 🤞🏻
We have a old raymarine autopilot. It would occationally lose its mind. We found out the bose portable speaker, that we set at different places in the helm, would confuse the autopilot. Just a thought or maybe it will help someone else.
It’s a good call. Those fluxgate compass are super sensitive to magnets. We thought we had found the cause where I found a speaker sitting quite close by but sadly no luck with that one either. The hunt continues.

Yeah, there is never enough of course but we have been very happy with it. 2.2kw in total. The flexibles are pretty good for us. We take the compromise in efficiency with the benefit that we don’t stub our toes when moving around the main sail. That said, when the eventually wear out, we might just be convinced to upgrade the technology if we can afford to.
When you aren't trolling your followers with non-specifics that suggest you are buying a new sailboat, do you have moments of guilt after getting so many people excited for you?? 😆😆😆 I think you owe us all individually a week's vacation onboard with you until we feel better!! 😀

Great question. So we actually renamed the boat when we got her. She has had a few names in the past but we felt she deserved a new lease on life and Indioko comes from the Ancient Greek meaning “to be in pursuit of something” we don’t know what exactly but we figured everything about this way of life is about discovering and chasing down new places, a dream, an idea, the weather…. So it felt right. Obviously she loves the name and we call her Indi for short 😊
@RedSeas what a great way to name your boat. I don't currently have a vessel myself, but am going to name one Serenity if I ever get one. Of course I will have to check to see if there is some "bad juju" about using a name like that first . Thanks for the reply.
We are working on it. Takes a while to build the data as we don’t have a diesel fuel flow meter onboard to measure exactly what is going into and back from the engine. If we ever manage to get our hands of some, we could get pin point accurate but so far, we are seeing half the fuel consumption we were seeing on the yanmars as best we can measure.
Perhaps you should buy a pilot that's not made for auto's. It was probably trying to get you to the nearest expressway. Something more nautical I'm thinking.
Don’t think so. We use all sorts of cameras but this was all filmed on our “good” camera. Did it look different? TH-cam can sometimes drop the resolution based on your internet speeds. Perhaps that had an effect?

@@RedSeas not improved anything… you’d be gobsmacked how many empty shelves there are in big supermarkets now… mainly due to importers and drivers from EU not wanting to come here. Reminds me of Eastern Europe 25 years ago when I was there.
@@RedSeas also not just nomads… a massive swath of UK sailors kept their boats in the EU and would fly home. Now they are restricted by Schengen rules. Has hit some marinas hard as well as the UK sailors. Always a good few UK boats for sale in Greece. And many of them you also can’t bring back without paying tax… even Moodys & Oysters. I used to import from mainland EU to UK and pre Brexit no one could answer how the tariffs and taxes would change. How can you vote for something when there was never any clear understanding what it even was. It annoys me almost daily… it was an incredibly blinkered and thoughtless move… funny thing is my Dad voted for it and died before it happened… my older two… now 26 and 24 didn’t get to vote… they just have to now live with it. Apologies for the rant!

My catamaran has 2 auto pilot’s for redundancy, one is 10 years old and it’s been the go too, and amazing bit of kit from the factory.

We were wondering if the Highfield would be a wetter ride than AB. AB sits so high and is such a dry ride. Hopefully the Highfield is the same 🤞🏻

@@RedSeas Do check the motor of the hydraulic arm. if the brushes are worn, that can cause similar issues.
I'm Canadian, so it is colouring in Canada. With that being said, I spell it coloring maybe cuz I was born July 4th. Ya I'm sticking to that. 🤣🤣

It is weird for sure. Seeing how we used to edit and stuff is cring for us. But it’s nice to be able to look back at the adventure too
Thats a serious amount of solar. And as for those flexible panels do you have plans to replace them for better functioning ones.
