    Just received the Ace 250 today and took it for a test drive in the yard and love it.The audio is so loud I don't see why anyone needs headphones on these.I'm a novice and had used an old Radio Shack detector once around my yard and it never hit on anything,the Ace hits on everything ! Got a great deal on it plus Garrett sent me 2 edge diggers with it,can't beat that.I'm already in love with Garrett !

    I bought the Ace 250 last month and i have to say I'm impressed! It's my first detector and after about 2 hours, I got used to the different sounds. I'm very happy with this machine!

      Hello, I think on maybe start metal detecting. I found this ace 250 and as I read and see it's really good. I haven't done any detecting earlier and so I don't know which detector would be the best for me. Maybe I am wrong in choosing the ace 250, but I would like to find maybe some ww II things, or something like that. Feel free to tell me what should I choose.

      jenda445 Ace 250 is a fine machine to start out with. Also look at a Fisher F2. Only thing about these I don't like is the display is set up for US coins which isn't really helpful for UK or Aus. Another alternative is the Minelab Xterra 305. If you just want a basic detector to have fun with and find stuff look at a Tesoro Compadre as it's probably the best beginner detector out there.

      Yeah, this is video with very much of information! I l like it. Only negative thing is, that you doesn't have a "real" microphone. Cause wind is pretty wild.. mut thanks anyway! Very good video, and truly a lot of information about this thing like that. I a'm thinkin to buy one. Just pretty difficult to find the only one for me, and my purposes. You know. How good you will get whit 200 bucks? And how bad you can get with 100 bucks? Or are these so bad or so good at all? well, I'm just a beginner and finding out!

    Yes, I would highly recommend the Ace 250 for the new detectorist. The Ace is easy to get the hang of, it comes with an instructional video, and is a quality machine. You can change the lenght of the shaft on the machine for a comforitable fit, and it's a pretty light weight unit, so it's not hard to swing for long periods of time. Good luck :)

    Actually the Garrett ACE 250 holds the record for MOST treasures/valuables found. Go to the internet forums, they've calculated All the finds by current Members, including news articles where riches have been found. The Garrett has found Well beyond a majority of it.(simply because it's a reliable and super popular detector, most people own them.) But it still PROVES that it's a reliable detector!

      +Mike Fu I have the ACE 250 and Also the Teknetics Omega 8000.For the price the Ace 250 is not a bad detector. There are many people who started metaldetecting with this machine. I also found a lot of things with the Ace but i also must say that there is a lot of stuff he misses.I have a small forrest in my neigborhood. Hunted it to dead with the Ace+12" coil and couldn't find anything more. Then i started again with the Omega 8000 on the same spot and unbelievable the amount of coins and silver the Ace missed and not only in depth. I had coins and silver at 5-6" that gave no signal on the Ace or was not able to seperate the the good stuf from the bad stuff.

    The Ace is good for gold jewelry, but not designed for nugget hunting. When hunting for gold nuggets it is best to have a high frequency machine with a ground balance feature. Most spots with gold nuggets have highly mineralized soil, and to get the best sensitivity to small gold you need to set it for the soil, the machine should also have an all metals mode for the most sensitive detection. Tiny gold is going to read down in the iron range. Larger nuggets may read in the foil range. GL & HH :)

    The Ace 250 is a great starter unit. It's very simple to use and runs very stable, not a chatter box at all. The Ace gets respectable depth for the stock coil. It would do a bit better with the DD. If he has 300 to spend then the ACE 350 might give him an edge with the better coil. The Ace 250 is not as deep as the Omega, but much more stable around EMI, so it is very beginner friendly. The preset GB works out fine,w/ no fuss.There have been a lot of finds made with an ACE.Hope this helps:)

    The larger coils do go deeper in the ground. The 11 inch Double D coil is my coil of choice. The double D coils send the signal in a narrow strip down the middle of the coil. The Concentric coils, usually round or oval, send a cone shaped signal. The narrow signal makes it easier to pick the good targets out of the junk. The Garrett Ace 350 comes with the 11" coil for around $300. It's a good deal in the long run, as a seperate coil costs over $125, if you wanted to upgrade.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Silver usually falls in the dime, quarter area, depending on size. Gold jewelry can span from foil to pulltab depending on the size. Most small womens rings that I have tested ring in the foil area, and mens wedding bands in the nickel segment. If you want gold jewelry, you have to dig a lot of trash. Silver is much easier to find :)

    I think the Ace 150 is a great way to get started metal detecting. Garrett makes a quality product and has very good customer service if there is ever a problem. You'll probably be able to pull enough coins to pay for the machine in a year. If you hit some jewelry, then really fast, plus it's just a lot of fun. People are amazed when you show them all the neat stuff that you can find. I keep all my old coins and spend the modern at the end of the year after I total it up. Happy Hunting!

    Thank you for taking time to answer me back. Went out today and bought an Ace-350. Went with this instead of the Ace-250 for the little extra money and a few extra frills. Looking forward to using it soon. Seems the 250 & 350 are what most people would need for their journeys. Unless your going strictly for gold nuggets. Was even told this would pick up shallow gold nuggets. Hope this is true and not a line of BS from the salesperson. Thanks again.

    Hi Travie. The detector can be adjusted for length. There are quite a few holes on the shaft for the spring clips to snap into making the detector shorter or longer, depending on what you need, so the Ace could grow with you over the years. The search coil also pivots, so you can hold it out a bit further in front of you. One of the bigger concerns is weight. After a few hours of swinging it can get to you. Look for the lightest detector possible.

    Nice video!! The first year I used my ACE 250, I found 4,000 clad coins, over 300 silver coins and a 6 pound cannon ball. I got so good at digging silver dimes, that I could tell from the sound if it was silver or not. By the way, my first year was in 2006, I have the bigger coil and use it almost all the time when I use the ACE 250. Great, Great detector. I also have several other detectors, but I still fall back to my ACE.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    the best way I have found to find the coins without a pinpointer is to dig the plug a bit deeper than the estimated depth of the target, Then wave the plug coil over the plug. If it is not in the plug, dig a bit more and wave handfulls of the dirt over the coil. If it is in your hand it will beep. You can check on either the top or bottom of the coil, just make sure you are not wearing a watch or jewelry or it will signal on that. This is the old school method and it works pretty good :)

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It depends on the area, and what the most likely targets would be. If at a park with a lot of bottle caps and trash, I'd go for the coin signals. At the beach, I'd dig as many targets in the jewelry range as possible and bypass the penny signals. At old sites I look for the deeper signals to get the older coins and relics, and skip on the surface junk signals. Iron, you can reject everywhere unless you are looking for old rusty horse shoes and similar relics.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    This machine has a waterproof coil, but the control housing is not and would need to be protected from sea spray. This machine is good for land and the dry sand. The minerals in salt water are very conductive and can cause a lot of false signals with metal detectors. To be able to detect these areas you would need a machine that has a manual ground balance feature or a salt mode. Some of the higher end machines are a bit more complex, but once you figure them out, it can be a real advantage.

      Rob Smith Mr Smith, it's almost so unbelievable there's only a few out there that know the story. At the time I commented it was April 2014 and safe to say, life at the time was very rough.
      A few months later that all changed with ONE single find. It was a 2 caret diamond ring that I found. I advertised locally for several months in hopes of finding the owner.
      That brings us to September 2014. No one came forward and I had the opportunity to sell it and use the money for a down payment on a small year around camp in Maine.
      So now I live right on the water in Maine and life has improved 100% for us. Our monthly house payment is next to nothing and it allows us to afford other things now instead of surviving week to week.
      So in the span of a year my Ace 250 changed my life. I think it was something that could be seen as "Pure luck" but call it what you want. As weird as this sounds, my Ace 250 is my best friend. It's helped me more than any other person in my life. But of course, I still love my dog better LOL
      Happy hunting for you mate :)

    Gold can read anywhere from foil up into the pull tab range. Most of the decent size wedding bands I have tested come in in the nickel range. Larger class type rings could hit in the pull tab area. You find a lot of trash to get the treasure :)

    One of the only waterproof detectors with a digital display is the Garrett AT Pro. Most of the major brands detectors coils are waterproof and if you use an enviromental cover you could detect the surf and shallow water, but if you drop it in the water,it's toast ! A good place to look at and compare metal detectors is the Kellyco website. You can shop by price, and compare features side by side.

They called me one night telling me that they had two machines, The F2 with a two coil package and pinpointer, Or the Eurotech pro with the double D, and wanted to get my opinion of which machine I would want so they could decide which one to give away first. When I said I would prefer the Eurotech they said okay you just won we'll get it off in the mail to you.I was like, Uh, Huh? And I made a great choice, I love this machine. Great hunt brother. The aluminum cans can be a pain for sure. Most of the time they seem to read like a dime signal. If you get a large object the depth will read much more shallow than it actually is and the pinpoint will be much broader. If I get a three inch dime signal, and dig down six inches and do not find anything, it's probably a deep can. If in a very old area, without modern trash, It could be a brass buckle, but if you've been getting beer cans at a site it's ok to pass up these signals.Hope this helps.

    I would get the Ace 250. The 150 does not have the pinpoint function and few other features that the 250 has like discrimination adjustments etc.. The 250 is a little more expensive, but it will be worth it once you get out and metal detect. The pinpoint feature makes it much easier to locate the target for the beginner.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think your sensitivity is ok. Most single frequency detectors can be fooled by large chunks iron. I've ran into this many times, with several machines. The first thing I look for is a jumpy target ID. This is a good indication of junk. I also try to size the object while pinpointing. Coins and buttons will usually pinpoint much smaller at depth than a large piece of iron. It can be frustrating at times, but try to experiment with these suggestions , your sensitivity , and it should get better.

    The Garrett Pro Pointer sells for around $125.00. It's a very durable, great working unit. You can purchase one at almost any metal detecting retailer. Harbor Freight has a pinpointer that is much cheaper, but the quality and design is also a bit lacking. It can be had for around $15.

    Been using the $212. ACE 250 for 8 years now, primary detector i use, fun light and I own two of them...I feel it can pull out all the deep silver coins a $1,500. E-Trak would. Dig all slight bell-tones...and you can get BOTH silver dimes and quarters...10" down....8" no problem. Max 11" if the soil is wet. The detector actually does better sensing Dimes than Quarters. Something Garrett might not even know...Dimes ALWAYS give better signals than quarters. The detector is tuned for dimes...first.

    Most detectors not specifically designed for salt water do pretty well on the wet sand if you discriminate out iron and foil, and keep the coil off the sand. All of my detectors will give a false signal if you touch the wet sand, just swing an inch or so above. The coil on the 250 is waterproof, but not the control housing. On the dry sand the Ace 250 is great. On the wet stuff try it with a little discrimination and adjust the sensitivity for stable operation, it should do pretty good :)

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Adam. Your sensitivity setting was fine. The Ace should have been fine on the dry sand. It seems the beaches of the south east have little to no mineralization really. The biggest challenge is conductive salt water. If you disc out iron and foil, the detector should behave enough to search the wet sand, and be sure not to touch the coil to the wet sand as this will cause false signals. In the dry it isn't an issue. The beach was probably" sanded in" this summer, so not as many good targets.

      +Marco VI The device is a pin-pointer. It really helps aide in the recovery of small objects and coins. It's basically a mini metal detector. If you are close to the target it will beep and vibrate. This helps a lot in speeding up the process of finding your target in a pile of dirt :)

    The Ace 250 will work fine in the dry sand. The coil is waterproof, but the salt water can cause false signals in the wet sand. If you discriminate out iron and foil, it should work pretty good over the wet sand.

    The Ace 350 has an expanded iron range and the larger 11" DD coil for better depth and target seperation.If you purchased the 250 and decided to get the larger coil later, it would cost more than the 350. I think the Ace 350 is a very good deal considering the upgrade, but the Ace 250 is a great way to get started Detecting for a low price.

    It really depends on soil conditions etc.., but I've had many coins in the 6 -8 inch range. I have several other machines and it seems that 90% of the good stuff is in that area or less. I found an 1865 two cent piece a few weeks ago at 5 inches. The Ace is a nice little machine and will find tons off stuff. Great machine for the beginner, Great quality and affordable, can upgrade coils for more depth as you grow with the machine :)

    You're welcome :) The Ace 350 should be able to pick up small nuggets. I would think that if it was the size of a nail head or a small pea it would get it for sure. Hope you enjoy your new machine & good luck !

    I'd call Garrett, they have fantastic customer service. I haven't ever had any problems myself, but others have said that Garrett will fix you up fast.I'm sure they will ship the part you need. I hate to hear that you had the break, that does suck. Hope you get back in action soon:)

    Thanks for an excellent presentation. I now have a better understanding of the Ace 250, but I'm having a problem and would appreciate your advice. My Ace 250 acted strangel last outing. I would get a signal over several spots, but while trying to pinpoint the center of object attempting to get the loudest signal, the signal would just disappear, as if there wasn't anything there in the first place. I just don't have the hang of how to make adjustments to compensate for such problems. Thanks

    Sometimes you can get a package deal with the pin-pointer included. The Garrett Pro pointer is one of the best.

    Hi MrBranton, I see you own both the Platinum and Ace 250, so in all honesty what is the better machine?? I own a Platinum and seem to find a lot of trash, if this is because I'm in trashier areas, then I'm fine with that. But if it's because the detector can't discriminate well enough, then I'll pick up an Ace 250. I've read many, many great reviews on the Ace 250. You're the only person that has a review for the Platinum on YT.
    Thanks again for your time and help!!

    My birthday is coming up on August 20th and I really wanted a Bounty Hunter Junior. I didn't like these ones because they seemed too sophisticated for me. But this one is really easy to use, now I want it!

    Sweet, sounds like you got a great deal. The main reason to use headphones is to not attract a lot of attention at a public place, and to hear the signals better in a loud environment, plus the batteries will last much longer with the headphones. If that bell tone starts going off around a bunch of kids, you'll get an audience pretty quickly :) The Ace 250 will help you find a ton of nice stuff. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

    Hi, Ive been doing some research and apparently Garrett metal detectors are the best selling. I just wanted to know if these will work under water? I will be using it to try and find bits on the beach, sand, shallow and deep waters and also in land. Will it detect gold/silver etc? I am looking to spend around £200, would you recommend this product or something else?

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    I bet you can't wait. It sure is a lot of fun, just stick with and in no time you'll have a pretty good idea of what you are going to dig based on the signal. GL &HH !

    The Ace should work about anywhere really. It has a preset ground balance that seems to be at a good general setting. On dry sand it should work perfect, on wet sand you may need to turn up the discrimination up to the foil area for stable operation. That seems to block out some of the salt minerals from sounding off.

    I haven't used the 150, but I would think it would pick up larger pieces of gold. Usually high frequency machines are the best for gold prospecting and the Ace 150 is more of a mid range frequency. It would be worth a try though, but I'm not sure it would be very sensitive to very small gold.

    I guess soil conditions could be a factor, but in my area 6 inch coins are no problem. I was out today helping one of my buddies learn to use his first detector. I showed him a couple of finds I marked for him to pinpoint etc., and his machine hit hard on the 6 inch coins. It seems that 90% of the coins are usually In this range. I don't think I've ever dug a coin over 9 inches, even with my Etrac. It could find them, but it is rare for coins to be that deep. GL & HH !

    The X-terra should find jewery and silver coins just fine. The X-terra has a slower recovery speed than the F2 or Ace 250, so it would require a slower sweep speed. It's a well built, high quality machine, but a tad heavier than the Ace or F2, so long searches can wear out your arm a bit. I had the X-terra 505 and liked it's performance, stability, and quality, but for my hunting style I prefer a faster reset. Most of my sites have a good amount of iron and trash. Hope this helps. Good luck :)

    Hey, don't sweat it. The Ace 150 will get you out there finding stuff, no problem. Then later on if you get hooked on metal detecting, you can upgrade and use the 150 for a back up unit or for a friend. Good luck :)

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @gordon5jeff ,If the area is pretty clean, I set my sensitivity at 8 or 9, if stable, and disc iron and foil, and notch pull tabs.In trashy areas I disc nothing, only so I do not loose any targets that could be masked by nearby trash. If I can't take the chatter, I'll disc iron & foil. In extreme iron trash, I may lower the sensitivity to 7, if false signals occur to often. I like 4 tones most of the time. Tones seem to be more accurate on most machines than the meter.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter
    @CarolinaCoinHunter  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of the stuff I find while detecting is 6 inches or less. I would say 90%. I have several high end machines that will go very deep, but most of the time the old coins and jewelry I find are are not super deep. With a quality entry level unit you will find a ton of stuff. Large objects can be detected very deep. Coins 6 to 8 inches deep depending on soil conditions.So far,I've never found a coin at 12"
