This song will always remind me of the Barry Gordy’s The Last Dragon. A masterpiece of a movie that I saw in theaters when I was 13. Perfect mix of corny, martial arts, comedy, music, and goofy characters.
Also, loved El Debarge singing the slow song Who's Holding Donna Now which nobody seems to remember but it was played a lot on the radio back in the day & was a hit song !
"Rhythm of the Night" dropped my senior year of high school, and while my tastes in music were centered elsewhere, the song was a big hit that got a lot of radio play so I heard it quite a lot back then. The synthetic marimba sounds give the song a beach resort vibe which made it easy to listen to when it wasn't your turn to pick the radio station. The street dancing scenes in the video reminded me that Mick Jagger and David Bowie teamed up on a cover of "Dancing in the Street" that year. The video also reminded me of Natalie Cole's cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac", but she dropped that a couple years later. More on the mark, perhaps, for a related sound would be Sheila E. "The Glamorous Life" from the year before, or perhaps Phil Collins "Sussudio", but I got really sick of that one because of radio oversaturation. The Phil Collins banger from back then was "Easy Lover" from the Philip Bailey album he produced. For more context, other dance-pop-r&b tunes from that year included Madonna "Like a Virgin" and "Into the Groove", Chaka Khan "I Feel for You", Aretha Franklin "Freeway of Love", Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force "I Wonder If I Take You Home", Billy Ocean "Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)", and Prince "Raspberry Beret". That was also the year The Waterboys released "The Whole of the Moon", which is very different from these other songs stylewise, but I mention it because Prince recorded a killer live version of the song that was released from the vault after his untimely demise. The man could play the funkiest bass too! Check it out when you can.
I want to let you guys know about a 70 song that I call rap hip-hop meets the 70s. The song is by Aerosmith and Run-DMC and it came out as a Aerosmith single in the seventies in the name of the song is Walk This Way. This is a compilation between Aerosmith and Run-DMC it's only been a decade or two ago that it come out.
Great song, I was thinking Miami and Cuban flavor and was surprised they're from Michigan. I was checking out the song writer of this, Dianne Warren damn she had some hits....
LOL...I loved this song back when it came out...all of the age of 12! Jackson's wanna-be's for sure! Don't forget at this time was Lionel Richie too with All night long! lol
Janet Jackson and El DeBarge were married. They met and fell in love in the early 80s and then got married in 1984 only to be married for a few months and got divorced in 1985.His drug use was the cause of the break up.
You lie they never had a jerhi curl the debarges is mixed on their dad side their french Irish and england and german on their mom side their blaxk and native american indian so they was blessed with that good hair smh😢

👍🏿
I just watched this movie last night with my neighbors kids. It was their first time seeing it.
It always reminds me of Miami vice.
I think it was either s1 or s2 when he performed the song in one of the episodes. 🤔
Amazing how many songs are more remembered from films than the actual artists themselves, Gen X'ers are blessed.
Same here 😊
Thankful to have grown up in the 70’s-80’s
Sometimes it would be nice to go back in a time machine to this good music again
My official Happy Song since 1985 😊

I was born on the '70's so this song was bog when I was a kid. Loved it
Favorite DeBarge song: “Love Me In A Special Way”; full on goosebumps when I hear it ❤
This song lets you feel good and let loose❤

You guys are great-you have to do All This Love, Who's Holding Donna Now and Someone by El-this was such a great group and I miss those days!
Good dance song😊
On another vein, I believe you'd enjoy The James Gang, Funk#49, featuring Joe Walsh.
Great song, I was thinking Miami and Cuban flavor and was surprised they're from Michigan.

You should do Jon Secada, Just Another Day.
Yes! Definitely.
That is one of my favourite 90s songs.
@@TheRetroManRandySavageOne of my favorites as well.
This y’all 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I loved them and this song. I always play it together with Lionel Richie s All Night Long.
Do you guys love Tevin Campbell? Another gorgeous vocalist!
El Debarge could definitely hit those high notes! They had some big hits back in the day, but they were far from one of my favorite acts. Good review.
This song got the chicks on the dance floor big time.
Interestingly, this is the only DeBarge song with a music video, and it was their last song!

Yup- I always put these two songs together!

Fellas, was he wearing sandals and socks? I could have sworn he had hard shoes on maybe even b/w spats looking - mandella effect?
