Switch lead singer Bobby DeBarge is the older brother and was the blueprint for El DeBarge and the group DeBarge. The group DeBarge was following in their big brother's footsteps.
Man I miss the days of actual bands playing and singing and just grooving. The Commodores, EW&F, The Isleys, LTD, so many greats from back in the day. This is a lost art.
Switch were the ones who started the whole DeBarge phenomenon. Jermaine Jackson was the one who discovered Switch and later, Bobby and Tommy (RIP) were the ones who brought the rest of the siblings to Motown
The Debarge's had a white father and black mother, it's definately their hair lol, in an interview El said that they would use hair holders/Aqua Net and constantly pick it out so the texure would look more "black".
It's 2024, and some of Switch's songs, especially, "I Call Your Name" and many of the songs, not only sung by #Debarge, but written by the Debarge family, such as "Stay With Me", "Time Will Reveal", " All This Love", to name a few...came out in the 70's/80's...but if you look at or go to a concert today ( 2024)...the audience (young and older) knows every word to their songs. They are timeless and #ElDebarge was named in the ranking of Top 200 Best Singers in the World (#137)... Their music have been sampled by so many artists over these past 40+ years...check it out and do some more reactions to their music...you'll be astonished...I love the multi-talented Debarge family... I just hope before they all leave this Earth that they get the credit they deserve...🎼🎵🎶🎙🎹❤❤❤
Loved this group and song as a kid….was waaaay too young when it came out to understand what it was about but seeing my older cousins with their boyfriend or girlfriend looking all lovey dovey made me happy and I couldn’t wait to fall in love. Love over and over again was my absolute favorite song…I get goosebumps every time…Bobby’s and Phil’s voice was 🔥
TV One made a TV biopic on Bobby DeBarge's life worth checking out. Also, Switch has an Unsung episode as well. Other Switch songs include Call On Me, I Call Your Name, I Wanna Be Closer, Love Over and Over Again!
@@rwwdzzm5608 I don't know how you figure that. DeBarge was a family vocal group. The last album they recorded was Bad Boys in 1987 so I don't know how anything I said was "not really" correct. Smh
@lecuyerdooley1084 Well let me explain though you are factually correct in what you’re saying the majority of fans had already jumped shipped by the time Bobby joined Debarge most people don’t even know that he ever sang with the group they only know him from Switch. Now do you understand the statement?
@@rwwdzzm5608 No. Some don't know that there was a whole album before All This Love or don't think the first album is worth listening to. Doesn't mean that album wasn't DeBarge. So just because some fans didn't go past Rhythm of the Night doesn't mean Bad Boys isn't a DeBarge album or isn't worth a listen.

Wow. What a talented family is all I can say. Beautiful harmonies. . Reminds me of some of Michael McDonald’s rhythms and harmonies. ❤ Rob Squad reacted to I Like It by DeBarge and Bunny showed up in the comments ! ❤ El’s solo on that song is the greatest falsetto I’ve ever heard.

Let me school you guys. Bobby and Tommy are the older siblings of El and the Debarge singers. Bobby was the lead singer in the group Switch. Bobby had a rough life before he passed away. Bobby introduced his younger siblings to Berry Gordy, and they did songs for the soundtrack The Last Dragoon. Bobby and El sound just alike, but I think that Bobby sounds better. Check out Switch Unsung, you will understand.
El Debarge always said that his older brother Booby seen on this clip had the best voice in the family. Bobby unfortunately got hooked drugs as many of the other siblings. Bobby also died from AIDS.

Babyface put them together and later got DeBarge a contract with Motown. The first Cuban group to join. Bobby missed seeing how far his siblings were able to go before they fell apart. Bobby died of AIDS young.

However in later years Babyface did work with El DeBarge and Kristina DeBarge. Kristina is James DeBarge daughter
This sounds too perfect, I think they were lip syncing. I don’t hear one note that is even slightly changed from the record. If you get a chance watch the movie about Bobby.
This one's not doing it for me. Kinda boring...not much of a hook and personally, I'm not a fan of whispery voices. I'm surprised this one broke the Top 40. I appreciate the history lesson. I didn't know the de Barge legacy went back that far.

This is one of the best old school ballads ..
Great song and performance😊
Awwww. He was so cute. And good!! Such a very tragic life story 😢
I was suprised they knew that little about DeBarge and Switch
Phil and Bobby had voices that blew everyone away. And Bobby was the lead singer of DeBarge after El and Bunny DeBarge left
Phillip Ingram who was playing the tambourine and on keyboards is the little brother of James Ingram.
They called them Switch because they would literally switch positions and play different instruments
I wouldn't even bother!
Release the 1978 11 or 12. And I love this song and it's still a jam❤
Switch has the "best beat in town". So many talented musicians in addition to the great vocals.
