I agree entirely! I do my best to thank every Custodial Cast Member that I see, whether in Disneyland or Disney World Resort. Walt knew that they are the most important, as the Custodial Department is the first one that he created at Disneyland. They are my favorite Cast Members!

It's been a long time since I moved away from Westminster to St. Louis, but that was one of the things I noticed about 6 Flags St. Louis. How much dirtier it was than not just Disneyland, but all the LA area parks like Magic Mountain and Knott's Berry Farm. Plus, Magic Mountain was, and probably still is, much better in the quality of thrill rides, although I know St. Louis has improved over the years.

I love the ability to use the Disneyland app to leave a cast compliment! During our last visit, Genie + wasn’t allowing me to make a Lightning Lane reservation after park hopping so I jumped on the Chat on the app for help. A cast member was able to virtually make our next reservation for us and we continued our day without a break in the action! I used the app to leave a cast compliment to show our gratitude. We’ve asked cast members about the best time to jump in line for specific rides, recommendations for food, the best place to view the fireworks and endless other questions. They are all extremely helpful. They truly want to make your day magical! I’m so glad it’s so easy to send a cast member a compliment - we really appreciate all their extra efforts! ❤️

Letting your babies and toddlers make a huge mess on the table and floor and then just leaving it for servers to clean up 3. Lying about the children's age at the buffets and 4. Staying and chit chatting at the table when you have finished eating after the restaurant is closed. 😊

I was a cast member for 4 years. The one question I got everyday that I always laughed at. "Where will I be able to see the fireworks?" I would always just point up. "But where can I see them?" And I would say anywhere. Literally anywhere in the Park. Just avoid infront of the castle and don't do into fantasyland. Another thing I despised was watching people I knew that were not in need of a wheelchair rent and use them in order to bypass the que on attractions.

As a truly disabled guest, I can really relate to this. I still remember watching a group of teens trading off crutches several times. So frustrating. What most guests don’t understand is that disabled guests aren’t getting anymore out of their day than the average guests. As a general rule I get MUCH MUCH less done in a day than a normally abled guest does. This front of the line service everyone thinks we get comes with a whole host of significant delays.

Re: ride closures, my 5yo and I got onto Radiator Springs Racers, literally just got into the car and drove up to where they check your belts are on, and the car ahead of us broke down. They tried for 20 minutes to fix it to no avail while we were stuck there, directly next to the panel with all the buttons and cameras.
The poor cast member wasn't being told anything, nobody was coming to help her and she needed another person to be able to get us out. She was becomming visably more frustrated with the situation. Meanwhile my 5yo is asking her "what does that button do? What's that camera? Is the car ahead of us out of petrol?"
I tried to draw his attention away and have him stop pestering her, but every time he had a new question she was RIGHT ON IT. She was so patient with him and explained how the mechanics were trying to fix the next car, how the screens show her where the cars are, and then pointed to the cave where they go to sleep. She was amazing.
I've seen people get so mad when rides break down. I was on a log on Splash where the guy didn't stop complaining for the whole time we were sat there, and when we finally got out told the attendant "you better give us a fastpass". An in-show exit on Splash Mountain is a rite of passage, I was loving it. People are awful.

It’s funny to me when people complain about prices. I was going to Disneyland as a child in the 1960’s and people complained about prices even back then. The five kids in my family saved up all year so we could pay $3.00 for a ticket book, $3.00 for food, and $3.00 for a souvenir. Us kids each had a Disneyland bank to save the money. Yes my parents made up the difference, but saving up made the once a year trip so memorable and fun. We spent the whole year reading the guidebook to decide how we would spend our tickets. If you really want to go, save up for as long as it takes. Disney rarely drops prices so just know it will be expensive, but worth it with the right attitude. ❤

What always got me was when an attraction was SCHEDUED for refurbishment. It is listed online as being closed. It is noted at the entrance as being closed for the entire day. And then the guest gets angry when I would tell them that it is not operational. I was once blamed for ruining someone's vacation because even though I was selling ice cream bars on Main Street, somehow I was at fault in their mind for the Matterhorn being close for refurbishment. Not even my department.
I once had a guest who told me that one particular attraction was the reason they visited. They were on day five of a five-day tip. The attraction had been open the previous four day, but on day five went into refurbishment. They didn't ride the attraction they claimed to visit four on the four days it was open during their trip. The attraction they specifically said they were there to ride didn't make their priority list on the first four days. But it was my fault, selling popcorn, that the attraction wasn't open on their last day.
I was a Disneyland cast member for six years and not once was I asked what time the 3pm parade starts. I honestly think that is urban legend. There WERE times when I was on the parade route when I was in Town Square and the parade started by Small World that I had to explain that it would take time for the parade to get that far, but not ONCE was I even asked what time a 3:00 parade starts.

  • @caisis2
    @caisis2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This entire tips video reminds me of the classic "human behavior" titled "Everything I need to know I learned in kindergarten"! So true!!
Re: "parade times..." I THINK what many people are really asking is "what time will the parade pass by ME, HERE where *I* am?" Of course, clear communication would help ask THAT question instead! If I'M on Main street and the parade is STARTING at Small World, it could easily be 20/25 minutes before it "starts" for ME! God bless the cast member who gets THIS question! Hopefully, they're trained &/or experienced well enough to answer THAT question instead of the asked one, i.e. "the parade will start at (fill in the blank) and should reach THIS area by "X" time". I think I've actually HEARD CM's say something like that to guests!
Re staying past closing: I like to hear the "kiss goodnight" and feel THAT is the true "park close"! I don't always have the energy to stay, but try when I can! I think it's appropriate to stay that long; after THAT though, guests should definitely leave! Y'all know the saying "you don't have to go HOME, but you can't stay HERE!" IF a CM thinks "staying past closing" is BEFORE the kiss goodnight, sorry, but that's not correct! Once the kiss is heard, LEAVE the parks. CM's need to go home too! 😍

My family and I were at DL two weeks ago and when a ride temporarily closed during our LL reservation we would then get a pass to use at any time of the day for a ride of equal value. For example if it was for Buzz Lightyear we could go on any ride other than the large E ticket rides like Indiana Jones, even rides that didn’t have LL like pirates or Jungle Cruise

As a current long-time Cast Member at the Disneyland Resort, I want to thank you for helping to be our voice. Yes, Safety or (SAFE-D) and just common respect while you are visiting our parks are always a concern for us. To all of us, think of it in these terms. Would you allow or would you be okay with people or strangers visiting "your home" and disrespecting you and everything you have inside it, while leaving their messes behind for you to pick up? No, of course not! Also, think of this too. Say "You" have the latest and coolest gadgets and offerings in your home that you spent your hard-earned money on, only to find that your guests have intentionally disrespected the rules and boundaries you set or did something unsafe. Like it or not, you are going to have to address the situation, right? So, when you are visiting my home where I do take pride in being, please kindly consider our wishes in making your visit and that of millions of others who do care about having a magical and memorable experience. We have and continue to work hard in making your memories truly magical. Thank You

One time I visited the park, I realized that I had left my phone on the Matterhorn ride in the pouch after leaving the exit. We need our phones for everything at Disneyland, so I naturally panicked. I was so frazzled that I ran back to the ride. I asked a few people in line if they could please get the attention of a cast member, but no one really paid any attention. So, I broke rule #9 because the only thing between me and the cast member at the exit of the ride gate, were the bars that were surrounding the attraction. Ugh....I am so embarrassed to even say this, but I proceeded to climb over the bars (I feel soooo bad about that now) and waved for the cast member's attention. I got reprimanded for climbing over the bar...rightfully so. One thing I will say is that I feel the cast member got overly upset at me. I apologized several times, but it appeared that I was not forgiven. lol. I made a mental note that if that ever happened again, I would get to the first cast member I can safely and ask for further direction. But, with ultimate respect to all cast members, losing your phone at Disneyland is everyone's worst nightmare so I was so distraught and not thinking clearly. A little compassion would have gone a long way. HOWEVER....I love all of the cast members and appreciate all that they do. Disneyland would not even run if it wasn't for them. They really need to be thanked and shown more appreciation than they get. :)

Ugh the arguing with cast members is so messed up. When a ride breaks down, we just go on to the next ride. I remember waiting an hour and a half for Web Slingers and it broke down. I told my daughter, who was waiting for so long to get on it because it was her favorite ride, and she started crying. I told her we will come back once it is open again.....BUT I had several women using my daughter as a reason to argue with the cast members. I had to tell the cast members that we are doing fine and I had to ask the women to not use my daughter as their weapon to argue.
As for the rope thing, I always see the chain ropes by Small World and people use it to sit to watch the parade. I'm guilty of that 😂

When you stay late at Disneyland you are delaying the Cast Members who work on the Third Shift. You have to remember that there is a large group Cast Members who clean all of Attractions each night. All of the exterior of Disneyland is washed down each and every night. This can only done when Disneyland Park, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney are closed. The bathrooms are cleaned and sanitized daily after all the guests have left.

Former cast member here. Your #1 is a perfectly good question, and it doesn't annoy us at all. Here's the proper way that dialogue goes:
GUEST: What time does the 3:00 "Totally Minnie Parade" start?"
CAST: That's a great question. Where are you planning on watching it?
GUEST: Oh, um, I hadn't thought of it. Any suggestions?
CAST: (remembering that the course of the parade is reversed for the 3:00 parade, to get the floats back home for overnight storage) Well, the purist in me likes to watch from Main Street, and that's where this parade starts, but it gets pretty crowded this time of day. I'd actually recommend the Adventureland spoke of the Hub. You'll have to wait until the parade gets down Main Street to see the first float, so let's call that 3:10.

I'm sure everyone who is guilty of not throwing their trash away or not cleaning up their mess especially in the bathrooms (why can't people flush the toilet let alone pee inside of the toilet instead of leaving the toilet seat wet/messy) are not normally like that at their homes. If their homes are as messy as they leave public places, that's just a sad thing. I'm sure they don't want to sit on wet toilet seats or see trash any where.

If there is a ride that is going to be closed during my time in Disneyland, I need some kind of information ahead of time so I know to skip that one. When I was about half way in the line for Indiana Jones And The Temple Of The Forbidden Eye, a cast member made an announcement that the ride was down and I yelled "When will it reopen" and the cast member replied "I don't know".

I’m happy to say I just got back from Disneyland and I did not do any of these things, whew! But, even as a guest, not a cast member, I went on a couple of rants while there to my family about other guests. There was a situation where someone left their fries on the ground, some in a tray, some strewn on the ground, and I complained about how I could literally see three trash cans from where I was standing, yet they couldn’t be bothered to throw the tray in any of them. I also experienced terrible guest behavior on Pirate’s. On one ride a teenager actually stood up in the boat. Unfortunately he was out of site of the cast members, but I was seething and wanted to yell at him, but was worried that it wasn’t my place as a guest and it was at the very end of the ride. Then, on a different time riding Pirate’s, a couple of guests were talking very loudly before one actually extended her feet over the side of the boat and took a flash photo of herself doing this. I hate when people are unsafe and in doing so ruin the magic for everyone around them.

Yeah I used to be a Cast Member from 2003-2006 over at Disneyland. At the Quick Service Restaurant and Buffeteria locations. I remember all of those things that you just mentioned. I can what my experience were. Like when I was working as a busser over at Club Buzz or Tomorrowland Terrace or Galactic Grill. My area to clean was the table and chairs facing Innovention and one guest asked me for my manager and I said "yeah, sure what for?" The guest said "I want to see your manager because I want my money because everytime I come here that ride breaks down!" The attraction that he was mentioning was Space Mountain.
Also at Club Buzz/Tomorrowland Terrace/ Galactic Grill there's a rail behind the stage that a girl was sitting on and asked her to get down and she did then I overheard her mom say "How many times that I told not to get on that rail". Also a lot times I have to tell guests to get down from the stage especially during fireworks.
Also when I was on the register at the restaurant and guests what we have when like pizza for example and the menu right there. Also when closing like when I'm inside the restaurant and cleaning the counter and guests would knock on the closed windows and asked if we were still open.
Everything you said boundaries for fireworks, parades, Fantasmic yeah I work that as guest control. Like the tree grass area where acrossing between Ariel's Grotto/ Tomorrowland to The wishing well at Fantasyland.
Yeah whole leaving trash thing yeah that's me clear tables that has still a bunch of trash. Remember one time I was bussing tables at Club Buzz/Tomorrowland Terrace/ Galactic Grill facing Matterhorn Mountain and one guest ask to me clean up some thing that was totally disgusting and that was cleaning over the line of the Monorail that someone dropped there poo there. Also clean up left diapers.
Yup I have lot of stories of pretty much that you have just said.

When were there a month ago, we caught both parades and we didn't know that it goes south for the first parade, then north for the second parade. Which, logistically, makes total sense. But we were tired and our brains weren't firing on all cylinders.

Well put Amanda. :-) I like to hold Fingers UP for the CM to see my Party Size :-) I like to tell CMs, "I know you want me to be Happy, and I understand that my Safety is more important than my Happiness." and it's so funny about DLR and WDW attitude at closing.. at WDW I have had CMs slow me up! We were rushing, and then another Security person tried to start a convo, VERY bizzare, as I have a lifetime of experience with the "bums rush" at DLR closing! I'm DVc so I'm a huge fan of Early Morning and I power walk and have to stretch before.. and then I try to remind myself, those rides are 1K to 1.5K passengers per hour...once they get warmed up! I like the Lines app ($8 a year) for WAY more accurate wait times... and knowing that Disney doesn't count the PreShow at Rise, Smuggler's Run or Runaway Railway in "Wait time" so you can normally chop 15 minutes off the posted time if you count "In the PreShow" as the Start of your Ride experience and End of Queue Time. OH I agree, I BUS my table. Mainly at quick service. The CMs are not bussers. I'm part of a Disney Trash Can Fan Club group on Facebook! We love them! Thank you for this :-)
