2021 Jaguar F Pace - Smooth, Fast and Practical BUT DOOMED !

  • The F Pace has been a successful car for Jaguar since its launch in 2016. I have always liked the looks, a bit like an F Type on steroids. Luckily this model refresh has improved the area that needed attention and left alone the areas that were OK.
As well as answering important questions like 'can you fit a bike in the boot' and put this 3.0L mild-hybrid diesel through its paces. Such a shame Jaguar will only be making this car for another 4 years !

Absolutely fabulous Car... I part exchanged my superb 2016 F Pace Dynamic 3.0D for an I Pace before the 2021 model came out. If I hadn’t, I’d be signing up for the P400 now! It was hard enough watching Peds brilliantly positive report on the 300D, if he’d been in the P400... with a review like this one... I’d probably be in tears 😭 .. The F Pace has been a brilliant success for Jaguar & it can’t fail with this superb 2021 upgrade. Well done JLR 👍

Great video as always. I am a huge Jaguar fan, and like the new interior of the latest F-Pace, although not a lover of non-integrated infotainment screens, despite the beautiful curve of this screen. Jaguar absolutely nailed the shape with the original design, so no real changes required there. Glad to hear your furry friend is much better. Take care. Errol

Do you think Jag will go all-electric by 2025? No way.
The numbers don't add up. If they do they will kill the customer base as the cheapest Jag will have an estimated price of 100,000 UK pounds.
Diesel isn't being killed off until 2030 in the UK and Honda, Toyota and JCB are working on hydrogen, which is far superior to electric and on equal terms with petrol.
JCB is selling hydrogen vehicles and they said it can be easily scaled for car manufacturing.
The problem is politicians have no backbone and leap onto the next thing without thinking it through.
If Honda and Toyota bring hydrogen into production and the benefits are better than electric, Elon is in trouble.
Electric vehicles will go up in price not down simply because of the materials compared to petrol and hydrogen vehicles.

Excellent video and review. I've had an F-Pace for 2.5 years from new, wasn't sure about it at first but it's been a great car. I bought it mainly to get my bike and gear in it for races - it's a good size with the seats down. Economical, looks great (Carpathian Grey with Black Pack), and yes it does 'waft' ... No plans to change it yet.

I have a Petrol supercharged F-Pace which was my first non Land Rover product for over twenty years; it still makes me smile every time I drive it. Quality wise it has been brilliant but I did get an extended 5 year warranty with it. Driving wise it is in a different class to my RRS that I have had before. Strangely it is a really relaxing car to drive over long distances. The secret with driving any ‘Stop Start’ vehicles is keeping an eye on the rev counter, easy to see engine status. Still love my Clubman for town and fuel saving trips. I have managed to keep up my anxiety levels by also running a RR, dear to run and requires constant tlc. Good review and pleased both dogs are well . Would be good if you could test the latest Jag SVR.

  • @numbereightyseven
    @numbereightyseven 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, stop-start is dangerous at intersections; either through lack of response, or that unpredictability you mentioned.

    • @Colin623
      @Colin623 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I hate Start-Stop, but not only the delay in response but even more concerning is the wear & tear on the starter motor and battery, yes I know they say the batteries are designed to do this hard work, but I'd rather stick to leaving the engine running but also to reduce the wear on the engine in cold weather as the oil needs to be warm to give full protection ! which is a concern if you live in the heart of a city where you are constantly stopping at lights before the engine has had time to warm up the oil !

My opinion is that Jaguar going all electric by 2025 is a "courageous" decision (as in Yes Minister!) Certainly the overwhelming majority of buyers of new Jaguars will have a private driveway and/or garage so charging will not be a problem.
But I struggle to believe that 3 years later the charging infrastructure will be there for many of the people thinking about buying the cars second hand. Where is all the extra electricity coming from, and where is the plan to upgrade the grid network, when and where will the "charging stations" (as opposed to petrol stations) be built? - The latter need to accommodate vehicles for a lot longer than the 5 minutes it takes to fill up an IC vehicle. Or will every residential street be covered in charging cables?
The desire to move away from polluting vehicles is completely understandable. But I fear that without a well thought out and communicated programme for the construction of the electricity charging network, many people will still be taking delivery of IC vehicles in December 2030.
I say all this as someone who really wants the world to move away from our dependence on carbon based fuels, but I do not presently see the pace of progress I feel is necessary to achieve the UK's 2030 target.

Jaguar are making a huge mistake in ditching petrol/diesel years before they need to. My only conclusion is that JLR are using Jaguar to roll out electric cars as a test bed, leaving the far more important Land Rover brand making petrol/diesel/hybrid into the future.

    Caveat Emptor.
I bought a new F Pace SVR about 10 months ago. Drove and handled beautifully despite its obvious weight/ centre of gravity issues. Beautiful 5 ltr supercharged V8...but I had more quality issues in 5 months than I had over the previous 35 years of all my previous German cars...combined!
Luckily, a supportive dealer swapped me into the new RS4....no regrets, and no comparison from a quality perspective. You won't pick these things up on a test drive, but it will sadly be the last Jag to take my cash.

Great review Ped. I have had an E-Pace since 2018, and love the way the car drives, the interior, the 2.0d powertrain and ZF 9 speed box work brilliantly, 40 mpg average and 50+ on long journeys. The one thing I do not like now in any car is a black interior, no matter what the external colour. I have had light interiors since 2010. On my company steeds, I had to put a bit of effort in cleaning the driver's seat, due to my 40k miles per year average. To see all this fantastic cutting edge Ingenium engine technology being confirmed to scrap heap is for me unbelievable. It is a pity the Government has such disjointed, knee jerk policies when it comes to transport and the future. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the big climate gig later this tear???

The new interior is nice except for the "ipad stuck to the dash" pain in the backside system. I really hate touch controls, and I hate giant screens stuck to the dash instead of properly integrated, it's why I'm looking at pre-facelift V6 SC ones. Trouble is it seems like most people specced the base model sound system which isn't great.

Had 2 new F paces in 2016/17 and had to reject them both with drive line vibrations which were severe. Jaguar stated that it was a characteristic of the vehicle so I contacted Auto Express who fought my corner but got the same answer from JLR press office that the drive line vibration was a characteristic of the F pace. Unbelievable!! Now bought a Range Rover Velar which is a far superior SUV from the same stable and no vibration.

That's a dilemma I hope to have later in the year. We used to have an XF saloon and are keen to get back to a big cat. Sportbrake XF or F Pace are front runners... The F Pace appears to have more engine options, but the XF was great to drive.

I think it looks great especially in black and de-chromed. A few thoughts though is that because it is a diesel will the value plummet and should you even have stop/start on a turbo charged vehicle which could possibly starve the turbo of oil flow !!

To be honest I feel Jaguar weren't quiet being truthful saying that Jaguar was established in 1935, that year the model came into being but the Cars were still known as the SS Jaguars. The SS branding was only changed after WW2 for what was at the time fairly obvious reasons!
I myself owned the slowest SS Jaguar ever built, it was the 1937 SS Jaguar 1.5 litre Saloon powered by a Standard 12 horse side valve unit able to propel my SS to an astonishing 68 mph!
I never tried it personally as keeping in on the road was a little difficult!

Ingenium 2 ltr a little harsh but quick enough. My biz partner got same but smaller wheels and it rode better but didn’t look as good. Very good looking car. Got a Disco 5 now and these still catch my envious looks as they are very attractive.... 👍🏻

Loving the much-improved style of the 2021 F-Pace, but I really wish we could get that 3.0 liter diesel engine over here in the US. Driving across The Rockies, from Denver to Grand Junction, via the 11,000ft summit of I-70, would be an absolute blast. Interior-wise, the piano black plastic surfaces are an eyesore that shouldn't appear in any Jaguar, but otherwise - good job!

If it is anything like my jag if it does an auto stop when you come to rest you should be able to take off the seatbelt and then take your foot of the brake at which point it should go to park mode with engine remaining off.
It does not work if the engine is running when you unbuckle the seat belt.
When I tested this feature I did not have the balls to do it in the garage.

I've got my 3.0 D HSE on 20 inch wheeels now and I'm thrilled with it - luxurious, refined, MMI now top of the class as he says, and swift enough. I think the stop/start and auto hold work really well together - better than most, I don't agree with Ped finding that a negative. If I have a negative it's that it's a wide car, with thick doors, so it is not easy to see where the sides are.

    Hi Ped
Just returned from a very pleasant run in SUV, sun shinning above the pan roof, 3litre oil burner (340ps) wafting us along coupled to excellent 8 speed auto. No it was not a Jaguar but an Audi SQ5 two cars very equally matched in some eyes, and yes Audi to stop production of these engines. I agree with your comments whole hearted, let’s enjoy them whilst we can. Good to see the Pups in their supporting roles🥰

To be fair PP hybrids were always a stupid idea - the worst of both worlds.
Glad to see the back of them.

I have a 2017 F-Pace 3.0d S and love it, I normally keep my cars 2 years but love this one so much I'm keeping it a bit longer, just did 2 journeys of 240 miles each and car returned 36+ mpg
Not sure I like the screen on the new one but the rest looks great.

Love the car but I HATE those stupid infotainment screens which look like someone has stuck a tablet to the dash with bluetack. Thankfully a lot of manufacturers have moved on from these styles now and got back to a proper dashboard. They are old news now so Jaguar are going backwards - what a shame!!!!

if i was designing this car one thing i would do is incorporate the drive selector in with the gear change, 1 to free up space and 2 to unclutter the space. It can be done.

I have always liked the sporty looks of the F Pace, but I would still prefer the Velar, especially the new P400. Nice to see they finally improved the infotainment system across the JLR lineup.

i will add this - driving in town in dynamic mode makes driving over bumps better somewhat, and if you are driving uphill, then in dynamic mode can be more economical than eco or comfort mode as it easily picks up speed to 20 or 30 without any fuss (faster) at which point you take your foot off accelerator and cruise a bit giving it a slight nudge when required to keep momentum up.

Great review on this amazing looking f-pace. The exterior colour matches perfectly with those wheels, but I wonder if it's a metallic Sanatorini black paint or a solid Narvik black?

It should be noted that Jag may NOT be pure electric by 2025 but aim to be carbon neutral (non fossil fuel). The internal combustion engine powered by hydrogen is now a real possibility. JCB have developed one as electric batteries are not effective enough for them and are testing it in real situations now. You can see the video in Harry's garage. Most illuminating. So Jaguar may yet keep the i.c.e. Personally though I agreed with your I-pace video - teh F Pace is very nice but the I-Pace is the best looking car Jaguar currently make.

Great review really enjoyed it, love the car and can only imagine how good that engine is, what scares the heck out of me is driving up to the pump to fill it up essentially when I run my I-Pace for 2p a mile and have all the power I need.

The only thing I didn't favour was the after look glued on tablet over the dashboard, it looked very much like an afterthought... trying to refresh something.... otherwise its nice, but my favourite was the Bike !!!.

I really liked your review for the F pace, and would kindly like to ask you opinion as I'm hesitated between 3 cars, the F pace, evoque and porche macan, I'm really confused which one to chose and hope you may help me with your opinion, thanks in advance

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

All great cars but with slightly different positioning. Macan is a brilliant car with a sporty driver oriented edge. GTS being the pick of the bunch. The other two are a little softer, unless you go for the F Pace SVR which is brilliant.
It will come down to personal preference.

Excellent review, very concise and polished Ped. The F Pace looks great, a definite class leader. Its such a crying shame that Jaguar have decided to drop the petrol and diesel engines from 2025.
