    i guess anyone has a right to complain and criticize others, but honestly i can‘t understand why almost 900 viewers gave this video 👎. i can only imagine that they were envious or frustrated by the gentleman‘s skill, accuracy, patience and tenacity. chapeau! a fantastic piece of workmanship!

    Like so many artisans, you make it look easy. Every time I see one of you videos I think “I could do that. There’s nothing all that difficult there”. But of course it’s the level of precision and the touch of a lifetime’s experience and the keen eye and the steady hands that’s would mean my attempt at making that would resemble yours only if viewed from a distance. Thank you for sharing your superb workmanship and skill with us. It’s an inspiration

    An incredible amount of painstaking work. To those who watch the whole video notice that two different sanders appear to be home built and the metal bandsaw appears to be a handheld portaband with an improvised table. Congrats. Young Je!

Man it’s one thing to make a hand plane from scratch, but to make a rabbeting block plane with such stunning design, form, fit, finish and accuracy that it turns out looking even better then a high end Lie Neilson, and it performs flawlessly... now that’s very impressive!! I love the way you make those planers and i really don't want to be a jackas but don't use cold roll steel, that thing always wants to move where you take material off, because of the compression forces and tensions of manufacturing, use instead hot rolled steel, cut your pieces to leangth and leave them all night in muriatic acid, rinse with a brush and water , the hot procces relieve the tension and forces of manufacturing, recheck the cold rolled and you will see a change, dimension or twisting, have been there before and i hate having too much work envolve on something that will change in a few days...

    • @andrewgarratt5191

      Is it truly that unruly ?.... like 1000ths of an inch ? Or worse ?

    • @fireblade639
      @fireblade639 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewgarratt5191 make the test... I have made cuts on 1" thick 12" long square bar of cold rolled to split in half on a band saw, all i got was two nice half inch bows... Thats not 1000th of an inch...more like 1/2 out of flat...the plate he cuts is made like that from factory, you could buy a bar of 12" x 12" and cut to the same thickness and believe me, you won't get a plate, take one piece and is like removing one foundation of your house, slowly starts to sink that parts, the same principle is happening every time you cut one piece of cold rolled...

    • @andrewgarratt5191
      @andrewgarratt5191 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      fireblade639 well frig!
      Thanks for the info...I don’t know metals, I can sharpen the shit out of it....but my knowledge basically ends there.
      Came up with a plan B anyway 😁 I’m gonna buy a common rusty Stanley Bailey plane,gut it and chop off the front and back to make my own infill plane.
      That’s “Ductile cast iron”
      And so long as I don’t let it get really hot while I cut...it should work out A.O.K. ....
      Right?

    • @fireblade639
      @fireblade639 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewgarratt5191 actually that's a very clever idea, that will give you a very stiff and estable base to work with , high precision machines like mills and lathes are made with iron, iron will no be afected by cut heat, only oxy torch or welding heat... Don't use oil cutting it, and work it slowly, iron chip are like sand paper, it eats the sharpness of a band saw blade quite easy if you don't have the correct cutting feed.. I will highly recomend you get the machinery's handbook... Is a very big book and almost everything needed to work with metals is in there, even there is a process to get a flat very flat accurate flat surface with three plates for testing the flatness and a true square out of a cilinder , you will be surprise how out of square are the home depot squares... Give it a try... Metals are amazing and there is so much to learn about them , like i said, i hate when people capable of doing great things with their hands put so much effort to bring their ideas to reality and just have to wrong materials ...check the ave's videos , there is one "designed to fail" is about a water pump, just using regular steel on the shaft will make you buy a replacement pump over time... Knowing materials is important for making your proyecs last forever...

    • @andrewgarratt5191
      @andrewgarratt5191 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      fireblade639
      thank you. I’ll look into that book!...
      Being able to make your own tools would be a huge game changer for sure!
      In woodworking they act like they are filled with gold on the price tags so I call myself “saving money” by buying rusty antique tools and then working on em for hours to bring em back to their full glory (damn near wind up spending the same amount considering time/parts spent)....would be bad to the bone to just turn around and go MAKE a draw knife,spokeshave or whatever you needed,even custom to your very own personalized needs/tastes.
      Thanks again.
