Knife Restoration Project | Knife I Found in the Dirt

  • Restoring a knife I found while riding dirt bikes one day.
Some notes on the video if you're curious:
    - The scales didn't turn out perfect but I'm happy with the results for the most part. I underestimated how hard making scales for a knife actually is, especially if you don't have the proper tools, which I don't.
    - I left the pocket clip off of the final product because two screws were missing since one of the scales was missing. So I used the pocket clip screws to attach the other scale.
    - I sanded the handles smooth off-camera.
    - I didn't apply a finish to the scales because I liked the way they turned out, but I may apply butcher block or something similar in the future.
    - I believe the scales are walnut.
    - The knife model as it comes from the factory: Browning Model 773

Well done sir!!! That was an interesting knife and I like the use of the capture hardware on the scales. Great looking scales too!!! That seemed like a good quality knife for its origin. Great job!!!

Luckily there was no rust fake or real. I believe the brown spots on the blade that I used my dremel to get off was paint.

That model Browning is stainless so mostly dirt and paint.

Hey man, brilliant work! You did such an amazing job restoring that knife, and it looks excellent!
Just a small suggestion, it might be worth giving the scales a once over with a fine grit sandpaper, say 320 grit, and then oiling them with either linseed oil or danish oil, just to make that wood grain really pop. It’s not necessary by any means, you’ve already done a brilliant job, but it might just make that wood stand out a little more :)
    Amazing work!
