i'm the catman No, it wasn't. Webber said on a recent livestream to take whichever project is perferred, be it Mania Adventures or Encore Mode, as canon. In other words, Sega and Sonic Team couldn't be fucked to concern themselves with establishing a canon and neither should you.

I know this isn't a huge change, but in the final boss in encore, Eggman's shield now damages you, not a huge change but made that fight a tiny bit harder
I also didn't like how funky the new Metal Sonic fight played.
I also got disappointed by the lack of a final boss for getting all the Chaos Emeralds.

1) They could have made a new final boss.
2) They could have made new animations so that Egg Reverie works with other characters.
I've already used Debug to play Egg Reverie as the entire cast and it functionally works fine. Knuckle's even uses his gliding animation, which looks good. They just needed to change Mighty and Ray's flying animations and then replace the ending cutscene of Sonic being flung into the Ruby Must portal thing with the new cutscene of Eggman running away.

Two quick updates I think the game could use:
1. Switching between Sonic and Tails in the normal mode. Also, just how Sonic and the Rookie stayed right next to eachother, that should be the same case here too. It would be easier to switch between them, and the stupid reviving animation wouldn't have to play. (Also for some reason Mighty and Ray aren't paired in Mania Mode....Why?)
2. Not having to die in Encore Mode. While Encore is pretty cool, having to kill off characters to use the one you want is stupid. In the bottom of the screen (where the character heads are) there should be a tiny arrow over who you're playing as. Press whatever button is used to switch between ALL of them. A 2nd button should be used to swap between you and your partner. That allows you to change both of them.
Please like if you agree! This should really be some sort of mod or even something Sega considers!

You could already have Encore Mode physics in Mania Mode using the Dev Menu.

This is why Sega is making easier games, y'all are complaining about levels being difficult, they should make like dark souls creators and you guys to get good. If it's hard to beat, make like the good old days and practice.
Agreed. I found the whole character swap gimmick bullshit at times. There were so many moments were by complete accident I ended up destroying a character switch monitor forcing me to either
A) Deal with having to play with a character I didn't want plus losing a character I really wanted to save.
B) Restart the whole damn level just so I can keep my lost character.
I really hated that mechanic. There is absolutely no reason why with all the free buttons not in use they couldn't of just made a proper switch button for ALL 5 characters and not rely on an item monitor.
It's a shame that this was a bit disappointing, but at least Ray and Mighty were fun. Honestly, screw that special stage 7! It comes from hell. Great video!

What do you mean repackaged as a full game? It's 5 dollars digitally. And while the physical copy is $30, it comes in a holographic package, with a reversible cover, and a 32 page art book. The physical copy is worth the extra cash.
I don't know what people were expecting from a $5 DLC? I would take *massive* issue if it were $10 to $15 dollars. But it honestly costs very little. Maybe it's not what you want, I was a bit let down by stuff like the lack of a new boss fight at the end too. But you get your money's worth.

Oh, good point! The Encore Mode makes sense by happening right after Sonic Mania's final boss.
So... Adventures is if Forces happened. Encore Mode is if Forces didn't happen and Classic Sonic gets teleported to Angel Island instead.
There's no friggin' way the Phantom Ruby could exist after Forces happened.

Oof, this is incorrect the digital manual got updated to add Mania Plus to it. It has the story for Encore Mode and it says that Encore Mode takes place after Sonic Forces.
It's literally impossible that Encore mode could take place after Forces.
All Phantom Ruby copies and the original got destroyed in Forces. There's no way Encore Mode could be canon this way.
So either the manual team lied to advertise Forces some more (could be likely) or they legitimately didn't know what happened in Forces.

I think after Sonic Mania's secret ending there was an Ocarina of Time esque alternate timeline scenario where each timeline took classic Sonic to a different location. One took him to Sonic Forces, one took him to Sonic Mania Adventures, and one took him to the Encore DLC.
Also with how controversial Forces was i doubt they make DLC.

There is proof out there that new Forces DLC is coming, however.
Don't get why a certain group of people have a problem with that. There's a reason why the game got mixed reception . . .you know. . .half of the reception actually liked it.
If the DLC Forces gets actually fixes all problems it has then I'd be even more pissed off with the game. A game shouldn't need DLC to help fix issues a game suffers from. DLC is supposed to help add more content not fix problems a game suffers from. I feel like SEGA might get the terms PATCH and DLC mixed up...

Fun fact: mighty most likely was inspired by the the spike shield ability from sonic after the sequel. Both dash downward and both are immune to spikes.
And hell, falk, one of the main composers for the lakefeperd games, also made a cameo in the sonic 30th anniversary concert with one of its track from sonic before the sequel.

The bosses are actually slightly harder, it's just pretty hard to notice. Also the new transitions and metal sonic were part of a separate update.

New theory I had while re-watching this.
Perhaps Classic Eggman gets to Generations through the phantom ruby portal at the end of encore mode.
I mean the time eater does a similar thing to the pr by time/space distortion, and by the time sonic fights classic eggster they're already in the white void.
Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness both got their new palettes based on their future versions in Sonic CD, so even if it isn't pleasing to the eye, it makes logical sense.
The plot of sonic mania plus is after Forces. In Forces, the phantom ruby transports itself and Classic Sonic to the classic world. Yes, in the modern world, no portal sends them back, but the ruby doesn’t need a portal because of its immense power.

in the official web manual it states "Sonic returns home after helping the resistance" or something to that effect. so yeah that animation series they had was just for its own thing, it just uses the same idea of where did sonic come from through the portal.
also im pretty sure the Phantom Ruby is a different one between Mania and Forces. i think that, due to the differences in abilities and that Eggman had been messing with it for a good while before Classic Sonic showed up yet the Ruby did not come with him.
ALSO i think the story is "replaying" as for one: it IS Encore Mode(lol not really funny) and for two: i think the Phantom Ruby was used to "reset" everything to a certain point, but not perfectly since Ray and Mighty stick around after the "time warp".

You’re unfortunately wrong, generations takes place before lost world, and by consequence before forces, that is why during a generations cutscene, eggman says that he found the time eater after his last defeat, and then sonic colors images appears, proving that generations takes place right after colors, the wisps has appeared only in colors, generations, lost word and then forces, colors is the first one canonically since the wisps were introduced there, generations is second since it takes place right after colors, lost world is third since zavok is on forces, and this makes that forces takes place after all of them

To be fair, a sunset Green Hill is actually a pretty nice and niche reference in this case; Sonic Advance 3 (another of Sonic's best 2D outings imo) had a full zone called Sunset Hill, which wasn't Green Hill by name but very clearly a homage with both the name, aesthetic, and music, despite otherwise entirely different layouts.
I know Green Hill was most definitely oversaturated (and still definitely is), but I think this is the nicest way they could've brought it back. Whether that reference is intentional or not, it is still a better homage than any other Green Hill except for Generations and SA2 (and the aforementioned Sunset Hill from Advance 3).

Yeah, I agree that the Encore Mode, while having interesting ideas, wasn't all that impressive. The new Emerald stages aren't really that fun either; other than the platforming there's no real challenge. You're just running around in circles far more often because the UFO gets an even bigger head start than before, making these stages super tiresome. And then there's not even a secret boss for getting all the Emeralds? Makes collecting them ultimately pointless.
I'm surprised Rad didn't talk about how Ray is flipping off the player in his victory animation.
Also Rad, on the extremely low chance you read this, if you were ever planning on doing a third Sonic fan games video, you should definitely look at Sonic Dimensions.
It has the same playstyle as Sonic vs. Darkness: Nightmare Revived, only it's a full game, with like, 7 zones, different functions depending on which character you pick (I think it said Sonic was faster on the ground, while Shadow was more aerodynamic or something, idk I don't remember), and level design akin to Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance.
I saw some gameplay videos, and it looked really fun, you should totally give it a review sometime!
About the Metal Sonic fight, you have to hit his glass core when his right hand is out of the way and escape.

That's what was used in the Sonic 3 Prototype Of Lava Reef Zone Act 1.
Other than that mania Encore Lava Reef has changed it would've looked like a slightly bright-ish orange and Red Lava Pipes in the Rocks
When I first saw the Hydrocity to Mirrage Saloon transition in the original leaked/preview(? don t remember) footage I thought it was trying to hint at Knuckles opening a way for Sonic and Tails since in mania mode it would go straight to the scene with all 3 of them on the plane.
But yeah it doesnt make sense if you re playing as Knuckles or have him as a partner (unless there is a cutscene where he opens the wall himself that I haven t seen yet)

Every character except Knuckles has enough jump height to smack Eggman as his floating bob hits its lowest point in the Studiopolis boss. It's a bit tight but plenty doable, and yeah, it was always like that.

If one where to transcribe the word pain unto every cell in every human body around the globe would not even come close to matching one tenth of the pain he feels.
I’m wondering if the reason Eggman got sent into the the ruby during that final part of encore is to basically say: “oh yea robotnik isn’t gonna be the main villain of the mania series, it’s gonna be the hard boiled heavies”. When you see how they are really presented during this final part of encore it’s kinda showing how they are stealing the show off eggman for the mania series if it gets continued

The only surefire way to hit Metal's weak spot in his second phase is to spindash into him when you see the opening (aka when his right arm lowers)

Go into debug mode and pick sonic and tails (obviously) and start any level. There’s a new monitor introduced from the encore mode which was supposed to give you characters but in maina mode, it just swaps player 1’s character out... seeing two tails on screen is great especially during cutscenes, give it a try!

I got the physical edition and while i'm happy that it exists, Encore Mode could've been SO much more. It's like they realised they didn't have enough time to make new Level layouts past Green Hill so instead they changed the colours as a compromise. I wanted to beat the Special Stages the only part that was different, but now i'm burnt and tired, i'm gonna put it on my shelf and just look at it.
Soda, the magic bot actually sent them back in time.
Mighty "doesn't" take damage from stomping on spikes, he just gets put in the hurt animation and gets invincibility frames, no rings lost.
That hidden box from 5:16 was always there. Even in sonic 3&knuckles. But in 3&K is an extra live.
