I disagree with the endorsement....Jared you actually use the gear in show results in many years of work. 100k hrs 😁 No disrespect to Undone , but he just talks. No short films, documentary, clips of him using any of these products. Knowledge with no results is undone.
One of my favorite aspects of this channel is that you take care to contextualize the "is it worth it" with: for professionals that own the original, for professionals, and for amateurs/hobbyists. This is probably some of the most valuable advice in these videos because everyone else pretty much just say specs and prices. Thank you, Fro
When you see 8 videos covering the same new item all post within minutes, even seconds of each other; yep it's an official launch day. Time to pick your favorite reviewer and see what's new.
After a while using my new GM II, I noted that most of the reviews comment on the zoom ring “smooth or tight” switch plays a big role in varying the lense with my camera mounted to my capture clip. In tight, the barrel stays tight and does not extend. I feel that is the main point of the switch.
When I started photography, almost 4 years ago, that free guide to low light was so clutch! Still reference it from time to time. All the other guides are aces!
Love the review and very informative about this new GM 24-70 V.2. I'm definitely picking it up since its small, light and awesome!!! Thanks for the awesome review Jared!
I shot 3 weddings with my Zeiss 55 1.8 last weekend. Back against a wall, back against a pool, and back against a cliff. Sure wished I could have zoomed wider! I have this lens on the way from Amazon.
… if you use the 12-24 GM beside the 24-70 GM II and 70-200 GM II you work with the best FF trinity right now. 👍🏻 But you are right: Waiting for the 16-35 GM II also, maybe next year …
Solid review and great photos! I have to admit that I love Skittles, Universal Soldier, and Prestige Worldwide for my colored shots and Double-Stuffed Oreos for my black and whites.
Great colors in those photos and I know you had as much to do with that as the new lens did. FYI for your counter: I fall, sadly, in the non-pro category so I appreciate your tip that you still recommend the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 alternative- thanks for that, it is on my list for my new a7IV. Thanks, also for the Low-light Motion Guide... it looks to be very thorough.
The sigma 24-70 is great on the a7 iv, I use that combo a lot as well. Only downside (for me) is the lens creep just by holding it facing a bit down. Except that a very great lens for half the price of the new GM and even cheaper on the used market
@@jer3006 you can shoot facing down easily when you have your hand on the zoom ring. It‘s just „disturbing“ when walking with the cam and the lens is extending
Ive got the original 24-70mm gm lens which I bought used and overall it does the job it was designed to do. As a back up lens I bought the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 because of good reviews and was also cheaper then the Sony obviously and also the Sigma 24-70. The Tamron is now my go to lens as image quality wise its superb and its fast focusing and most of the time I can get away without using the extra 4mm on the wide end. The new Sony looks excellent and will be much harder wearing than the likes of Tamron but with such good third party alternatives available to Sony users since the original 24-70 came out I wonder if the pricing will put a lot of people off including working pros.
I have a sony but dont own a lens. i use my companys tamrons all the time and theyre great. But i really need to bite the bullet and buy one. I shouldnt spend $3200 cad on a dang lens since i know i can get the job done with a tamron. Is the build quality, an extra 4mm of wideness and better resale value worth the extra thousands....what do you think? Such a tough decision.
@@matteow288 There is always an argument that if you buy cheap you end up paying twice. In my opinion though the Tamron optically even wide open is cutting well above the price you have to pay for it and that alone makes it superb value for money. Its not built like a tank but how often do people really abuse their lenses to need to them built to such a high level and the plus of the lighter build is its easier to hold. The extra 4mm of wideness is subjective and I cant really answer that one but most of the time you probably dont need it unless your style of work dictates you using wide angle often. For me I am more in the region of 30 to 35mm and up to the 75mm end so it works fine. In summary I dont think you would regret buying it at all.
I am in Philly first week in November as my son is presenting at a Cystic-fibrosis conference (proud dad) Would love to drop in and say Hi Jared. Love to hear back.
I hear so many TH-camrs bashing the original 24-70 but I’m an event and sometimes wedding photographer and it gives me amazing images every time, paired first with my a7ii and then the a7iii and now the a7lV.
Are you recording video and then picking a frame from it? I am confused how you go from the video to the still? Maybe you have a camera mount at the top of the camera to show a smooth transition, care to explain?
Fantastic review and amazing photos. I always come here first. Philly fan now in Texas. Harper is a family favorite. I would love that print of him to give to my boys!
The Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 G2 weighs 540 grams. It might be accurate to say the Sony is the lightest "24-70 2.8", but it is not the lightest in that class of lenses.
Does this stand up to primes from a sharpness perspective? I get it will never be as sharp as a prime or have the aperture range. But just want to know if it can hold its’ own against a prime. I’ve got an opportunity to pick a brand new one up at $1800 and finally considering this lens.
I just ordered the 70-200 GM 2 yesterday and found out there's a new version of the 24-70 GM? Can I afford it? (Yes) do I need it? Yes especially for events. One catch I need the original for now because of two clients this Friday.
I just have one question, how ypu get 3 players in focus and a blurry background at 2.8f...I'm just an amater sony user so trying to get as much as I can. Thanks
As always Thank you for the review and the FroPacks. Really interested in this since I used to own the version 1. Will be really interested to see how it, on the A1/A7RIV compares to the Nikkor Z 24-70/2.8 S on the Z9. A comparison video would be great or one compared to the Canon RF 24-70/2.8L IS. By the way would really like a copy of your Bryce Harper print. Thank you again
I want this dam print Jared! Also epic video what a cool space to shoot and this lens is definitely a good upgrade but I’ll stick with my sigma for now
I like your camera comparisons and lens reviews - easy to follow. That’s why I Sub’d. The sigma tip was a big help. Would the Sigma 24-70 be overkill in an A7C?
Jared ! Is it still actually possible to get the printer for a poor fan from Far Eastern Europe Poland 😅 and about your reviews, this is so good job, your way of talking is just light lika a spring wind in the morning man ! Absolutely love it! Doesn’t sound like a funeral talk - just buy it and good bye. Keep doing what you doing and put some inteligent and funny little talks as you do always ! Take care !
Thank you for the video, can’t wait to hopefully get my hands on my first 24-70💪🏻 I’ve never really needed it for some weird reason, but this one exited me! also love the printer, what printer is that! 😭
Watched your iced coffee hour interview...awesome insight into the amount of fortitude it took to get you from A to B...that being said, I think you are wrong...I think you are a very likeable guy...
Thanks for the super informative video. Even though I'm not a Sony shooter, your analytical approach provides a lot of insight for scenario-specific shooting across brands. As always, learning a ton from watching your videos.
24-70 being a perfect pj lens goes hand in hand with MOST every pj ive ever known or worked with who carried a 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm primes... im shooting white world (canon) but use the 24-70 f2.8L II to shoot through the end glass (no photo ports) in my hockey rink. (federal prospects hockey league). i HATE that i have to shoot through but from this position 24-70 is good. id like the 24-105 SOMETIMES but f4 isnt fast enough in this old barn... id love to get an all access pass like that for the Detroit Tigers! do i need to grow out my hair? never had it long enough to be a fro, though
Would love that print! What a great pass to have to access these events, been to Phillies games since a kid and got to say a bit jealous that you’re on the field with them.. Interesting perspective on old vs newer… Its exactly how I felt about Version 1 of 70-200… Love the Version 2 of that one.
We can afford it and i want something lightweight for travel. I’m a semi professional family photographer but going to take a year or a few off to just enjoy life with my own children. But!!!! I do like lens flares. I read that this new lighter 24-70 2.8 gm II has an anti glare mechanism??? I want my natural lens flares.. am I better off buying a prime leica lens and attaching it to my sony? So then I get the natural lens flares I want and lighter weight?
What baseball stadiums should I go to this summer to shoot?
Minnesota Twins @ Target Field
Come to Citi Field. And invite me....lol..
Forget baseball go for bikini shooting this summer!
san diego padres!! petco park was rated best stadium 2 years ago. and we have machado!
Wrigley Field
Thanks for the shout-out, Jared! And great review as usual. 👍🙏
you too....even though I haven't checked it out yet. I'm sure it's full of purple!!!

Just purchased mine today, got rid of my Sony GM 24-70 2.8 and went for the Mark 2. Seeing this video has made me glad I bought it now.
I wanna buy one

I will say I bought the Fropack bundle and love them. Also really appreciate the video you did the other day for the full A7 iv menu and settings.
Works good for me on my FX3
When I started photography, almost 4 years ago, that free guide to low light was so clutch! Still reference it from time to time. All the other guides are aces!
Those sound like small updates, but that is kind of game changing in my opinion with the zoom updates!
… indeed I see here also a worthy update. Much better then the GM version I.
Love the review and very informative about this new GM 24-70 V.2. I'm definitely picking it up since its small, light and awesome!!! Thanks for the awesome review Jared!
Everything about that lens looks amazing! I think a lot of people will pick it up mostly due to it's smaller size and weight
Yes, I am one of them. The size, weight, sharpness and MFD is what I had been long waiting for.
I shot 3 weddings with my Zeiss 55 1.8 last weekend. Back against a wall, back against a pool, and back against a cliff. Sure wished I could have zoomed wider! I have this lens on the way from Amazon.
I look forward to Sony updating all three lenses of their Triforce, I believe they just have one more lens in the Triforce to update.
