Probably Tamron is used for the heavy lifting. They have a high market share of various oem optics. That type of synergy brings the ability for high end computation design and rapid development R&D. Also allows Sony to field test the various dive configurations and an understanding of longevity under Tamron branded products

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

I think there's probably some truth to both of your points. Sony has seriously picked up their game, and I do know that Tamron has been a good asset as well.

Are Roccor (excellent minolta) and Konika, too far back to be credited for ?
(That crash-change though was traumatic for the Minolta crew, I thought to have learned some day), don't know if they recovered).
I had the feeling Tamron catched up since Sony, and that they where certainly not bigger than the forementioned - but regarded as cheep as then Admiral, Sigma, Soligor, Vivitar; "a bunch of amateur copiers, con artists, for the non-professionnel fools". When did Sony get into Tamron ? Well I guess I should let tchatgpt dive into that. lol

I've always appreciated the level of detail you have gone to in your review of cameras and lenses. So with this in mind, and the new crop of magnetic circular lens filters recently come on to the market, would you please do a comparison of the new Kase Wolverine Revolution system vs. the new Maven magnetic system. In particular: construction ( how strong is the magnetic connection ) and as important if not more so, which system has better color cast control.

Hi Richard, I can’t make any promises. Most of my filter reviews come because the company has contacted me and asked me to do a review. I don’t necessarily have a retail source for these companies, and it would require a big expenditure for me to do the review under those circumstances.

13:09 Does the Sony In body correction do a better job? That sure is better than the smartphone lenses usually get, horrible wave distortion, and correcting does not help much.
I currently shoot on an A7 IV with SEL85F18 It does not seem to have any distortion. Got both second hand fro ma dealer. Great lens for outdoor, but wrong lens for closeups.
I wish there were better distortion correction tools in software. I see Lightroom does not have any advanced distortion correction. But would be a good idea if there was corrections for all types of distortion.

Dustin, I am gong to be honest, but I really did not like how this lens does not get down to 20mm. I find this focal length ideal when shooting video as I need that extra bit to compensate for the stabilization crop. It is interesting at 2:27 how you mentioned that this lens is heavier than the original GM -- I think this is a mistake in your communicating. I think this lens is probably ideal for portrait photography -- perhaps some landscapes too that allow for 24mm.
Did you use animal eye AF at 8:42?
I really wish they made a motorized version of this lens like they did for the 16-35mm F4.
I would greatly appreciate if you check out some of my recent videos by the way. Any feedback is appreciated :)

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

My language isn't quite clear there, but I was making the point that the difference between the new lens and the older GM was even more than with the Sigma 24-70mm. And yes, I did use animal eye AF for those shots.

Do you think the 24-70mm gm ii will work well indoors? (I have only used it outside.) Or should I bite the bullet and pick up one of the primes? If so, which one? Thanks so much for your guidance. 😊

@@DustinAbbottTWI The closer a lens gets to perfection, the more problems we get. Corners used to be mushy all around on standard zooms and noone complained. Now we complain when one side is slightly less sharp at 50-60 megapixels. However Sony is charging a premium for it :) I'm a prime guy so maybe my expectations are too high but internet is full of top right side issues with this lens so it's not just me that's paranoid or OCD :)

    • @nat-lj8kt
      @nat-lj8kt หลายเดือนก่อน

@@DustinAbbottTWI so being an engineer with a huge passion for photography and unlimited geek levels, I have compared A to B right edges (not corners) of 3 (one mine) 24-70 GM II from different batches and years in the Sony experience center in my country. One was slightly worse than the others in overall sharpness but all of them had a softer weaker right edge (on the last 15% horizontal of the frame). Pretty evident at 50 megapixels on A1. What does this tell us? Sony is intentionally designing the faults of their lenses in a way to maximize real world use case performance. Not all landscapes are shot at infinity at 70mm with detail on right edge. To mitigate this, at least stopping down to f8 is required, stopping down less might even make it worse. These lenses are really optimized for wide open shooting and may not be the ultimate landscape lens when stopped down but they are the ultimate 24-70 GM II. Gone are the times where with the 5 6 element simple designs we know that stopping down will always improve the photo. These lenses are correcting all aberrations in weird ways at the same time juggling between different shortcomings due to their computer generated designs.
It's an exciting time to be a photographer and a terrible time to be a quality assurance person when people can use 60 megapixel bodies to scrutinize your products. In the end it barely matters :)

Please try this: Transcribe every single word of this video, including every "uh," "you know," and other mistakes that were not edited out. Read it back. Does it read like a truly professional review? Please also check out other reviewers with more than 100k subscribers. Do they leave all of those mistakes in their videos? I'm not aware of any others that do.
I realize that editing out the mistakes takes extra time. It's my least favorite part of the process. However, removing them is pretty standard for professional video because as a viewer, it's frustrating to watch videos with the mistakes left in. Leaving more than a couple of them conveys disrespect for viewers' time. I'm unsubscribing for now. Let me know if you're willing to start removing the mistakes from your audio. I'd love to come back to your channel because your content is otherwise solid.

I don't mind the occasional uh oh. Is he supposed to read a script and sound mechanical? To note that I've yet to find a reviewer that gives a review this elaborate and articulate, with this level of presentation skills without a script in front of them. This seems like one of these comments that is meant only to offend and demotivate the reviewer rather than give actual constructive criticism. Keep up the good work Dustin! You are starting to attract jealousy from your competition, which is ultimately the best form of flattery to your work I guess!

@@ralphsaad8637 Dustin already uses scripts in some of his videos, and I do not think he sounds mechanical. I'm sad that you assume I want to offend and demotivate Dustin because my intent it the opposite of that. I'm neither jealous nor Dustin's competition. It's pretty common for folks to assume the worst motivations in people they disagree with, such as you assuming my motives. Please either stick to facts or ASK what someone is thinking before assuming.
Anyway, I've watched Dustin's reviews for years, some of them multiple times. They have great depth and solid information. I have simply become frustrated over time with the lack of editing that is fairly unique to Dustin's videos. When I watch folks like Gerald Undone, Tony & Chelsea Northrup, Jared Polin, and Jason Vong, they provide solid content but don't ask viewers to listen to unedited monologue. To be fair, I also watch Mark Galer, and he does have quite a few um's in his videos. I agree with Eddy in saying keep up the good work Dustin! Just don't neglect this editing step that's pretty standard.

@Keven Spargo I'm sorry but it's almost comical that you would put Jared Polin and Tony northrup in the same league as Dustin Abbott. While they may be good at what they do(and I do follow them), their work is mostly providing entertainment rather than accurate and extensive information. I don't think anyone who's serious about purchasing a lens would favor a review by Jared Polin (who sniffs and blows at his equipment) over that of Dustin Abbott. To note that all those you mentioned probably hesitate wayyy more while doing videos than Dustin and certainly don't express themselves as fluidly. Sometimes they even mess up the script and keep it, because it's human to be imperfect. Anyway, I'm not here to advocate for Dustin, he can do it himself if he wants yet he was graceful enough to thank you for your feedback despite the obvious attempt to be condescending. When you tell people to stop giving Dustin attention and look elsewhere for reasons that really don't make any sense, it's hardly about making assumptions, isn't it?

@@ralphsaad8637 I have never recommended that folks stop giving Dustin attention. Nor do I want to never watch his videos again. All I've asked is that Dustin edit his videos better. Simple request. If you disagree, that's fine. I'm not attacking you. Maybe stop attacking me?
