  • It's not every day that you have two of the most rare doubletop guitars, and in spruce, not to mention from the same year - 2019!!
I hope you enjoy this video comparing these Antonius Müller and Dennis Tolz guitars.
Many of the most famous guitarists in the world play and record on these instruments, I feel fortunate to have both in my hands. I hope you enjoy the video!
By the way - in some areas I chose to display the exact same passage on both guitars because it would be too difficult to evenly split those passages.
If you're interested in this guitar, or want to check out what I might have for sale, check out www.guitarcollection.com/ or write to me at theguitarcollection@gmail.com. My name is Evan Taucher - I'm a classical guitarist, educator, performer, and huge guitar nerd. Welcome to the collection!
Strings used in this video: D'Addario EJ45ff, with a high tension nylon D'Addario Pro-Arte 1st string

They both sound exceptional in your hands. I prefer the Mueller, it sounds slightly louder, richer and not as bright as the Tolz

Although the Tolz had more volume, I preferrred the Muller for the warmer, richer sound.
Your own piece at the very end was quite beautiful too.
    Great channel, thanks!

They are very similar in many ways. Tolz just needs a little different strings because these are making it too bright. And Muller sounding a little bit more mature, but doesn't mean better.. very similar instruments.

Both had their strengths and your great playing showed them well. My teacher has a Dennis tolz he's waiting on, one with Dennis's modern take on a tornavoz, his "wave guide" feature. David Russell is playing one and it sounds simple amazing and with a tremendous bass. Again, great playing sir!

Both are amazing. I would have to say that I give the edge to the Mueller... it has a very slightly more rounded and balanced tone and is a bit more "traditional" sounding... very magical in your hands. That being said, the Tolz is an amazing instrument as well. I love them both!

Another great video, Evan! Mueller, to my ear, is more complex and interesting and manages that across all registers. The Tolz has very nice depth int he lower register but seems to lose it higher up. Which one is easier to play?

The mueller-made guitar sounds very vivid and bright, with a loud sound. The fall of a stone into water, mueller.
toltz gives the trebles slower, it has a calmer sound distribution, it's not in a hurry, when you react hard it softens. toltz is like a grain of water falling into water.
both guitars have high level tones, I used to play bach music with mueller. more traditional works can be performed with toltz made guitar. maybe things that belong to the geography of the guitar.
Thanks for the video, very enlightening.

In your journey and much greater experience than most, have you noticed a difference in Muellers guitars over the years. Have you any thoughts on Mueller pre 2010 thanks

      I can't say I've noticed a trend, but also haven't played a Mueller pre 2010, so I'm afraid I can't help.

I think the block chords and the faster pieces sound sound a bit nicer on the Tolz, it’s a little cleaner to me, the Mueller is amazing on those moody pieces though…

Totally agree, the best bases and especially the 4rd string i have ever heard is on Tolz double top guitars.

I've tried a Cedar Mueller and heard at least other 2 cedars. They didn't really resonate with me: not so much bigger volume than a well constructed single top ( see Tacchi ) and really dry sound, little overtones and big wolf notes.
On the other hand , hearing this spruce one, I can really see a nice guitar that I would like to try.
