    Thank you so much for this! I was not aware that each light acts as a booster and each OEM extension has a small booster block in-line. Both the 12' and 4' OEM extensions, from the pro kit, appear have a booster block. As such, I was able to make a custom 20' jump (8' wire + OEM 4' ext. + 8' wire) having learned this. No need to tear a light apart... yet :)

      That’s what brought me to this video was if I had the pros with extensions I could go from light 12’, govee extension, 12’, govee extension then lights. Thanks!

    thank you so much for the write up and video! tackling my house as we speak. i have gotten the roof on the first story done but need about a a 35 foot jump to get to the 2nd story.
    so i can wire a 12 foot extension, wire in a light, another 12 foot extension wire in a light then 11 foot extension to the next set of lights?
    thanks man!
    thanks!

      Hey there! Yep, so long as your measurements are good and you’re not going over 35’ of total length. Thanks for checking out the channel! If you run into issues, let me know.

    Awesome information. I am in the middle of install and need to make 2 y jumps, both with a immediate light run on one end and 20 ft extensions on the other side of the Y. Assuming i splice a light midway on each, should this work

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep!

      Keep in mind, when you splice in a light, it is recognized as a light. So when you go to do finger sketch, that spliced light is in finger sketch as an active light. So you have to find it in finger sketch and either assign the “off” color to it, or cover it with heat shrink (recommended). You’ll see when you stand outside and do finger sketch, as you pass by/through the spliced in light.

      @Dads_DIY_TX thanks for all that you do. Given this would you suggest a light, booster, or extension in the middle as a best option? Also wanted to know if cut lights could be added to other stands

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I had an extra booster from the end of an extension that’s what I’d use. Or splice into an extension and use it.

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can “steal” lights from other parts of your set and put them somewhere else in your run.

  • @Dads_DIY_TX
    @Dads_DIY_TX  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Make sure the wire that has the writing on is reading (correctly) from left to right.. ie if you put it in good light you’ll see something like “24 AWG” and/or “300 V”. The “2” goes on the power supply side of your run and the “V” goes toward the end of the run

    Going to try this tomorrow! I ran a jumper wire about 20 feet from the main power to the first string of lights (relocating) and have a 15’ jump from the top story to the next and they all are dead so I’ve been obsessed over fixing this for two days.

      Let me know how it turns out and I’ll help troubleshoot if issues arise.

      @ just got done and it totally works!!! Spliced a small light in the 12’ jump and moving the power supply within 8 feet did the trick! So thankful for your help!

    Can I splice string of lights directly to my own extension without using the connector? I'm assuming so being that the connector is only there for convenience.

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. The pins in those connectors can recess and take away continuity. A lot of folks who have issues with their lights assume that it’s something else and that the connectors are always “good”, which isn’t true. And the workaround is to cut them off and straight splice.

  • @Dads_DIY_TX
    @Dads_DIY_TX  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Quickest way to know if you spliced something in backwards is by looking at the very last connector at the end of your entire run. If it’s male, you reverse them somewhere. It is possible to have a female end, but due to multiple splices, be flip/flopped somewhere else.

    So to do a 30’ jump I’d have to add a light like every 15’ on the pros?

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Uncertain as to what the distance is between the pros, but to be safe I’d do a light every 12’, that’ll guarantee it’ll work. If done correctly.

  • @dennisparker9566
    @dennisparker9566 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Also is it fine to add cut lights to extend a light strip? Working with 200ft govee pro kit

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you cut some from somewhere else and you want to add them to an existing, complete strand? Yep.

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      So long as it’s from the same set, can’t add anymore than what comes in the box

    I have all the extension cords from another Pro kit, (1) 12' and (2) 3.9', can I connect all of these extensions together, almost 40'? I have to complete a 35' jump between roof lengths.

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can daisy chain extensions so long as there is a booster on them for every 12’ of length. Pretty sure all 12’ factory extensions have them on the ends. Not sure about the shorter extensions though. Make sure you test each extension with lights connected to them, prior to doing it. Those things are prone to being bad/recessed pins inside the connector.

    Can solid copper wire be spliced to the stranded wire on the Pro lights and function properly? Thanks.

    • @Dads_DIY_TX
      @Dads_DIY_TX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haven’t tried myself, but assume so? Think wire management would be a pain though.

    If you need a light, cut the last one off a strand, then cap/heat shrink that spot. Yes, you can cut any of them, just voids the warranty on non-pros. I cut 3 off to make this video, the lights remaining still work.

  • @Dads_DIY_TX
    @Dads_DIY_TX  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Careful with the heat gun doing heat shrink over the light, especially if you removed it from the puck! Don’t want to melt the circuit board!

  • @Dads_DIY_TX

    Pros may be able to go further before you need a booster. Likely because it’s pushing more power to begin with. Can’t verify myself.
