    They've been testing teams from anything with just four man units' six man units, to this twelve man strong unit, testing different ways of operating, with more new and modern tactics in both preparations and operations using the Future Commando Force to go back to doing a more traditional form of British Royal Marines Commandos operations, but as I said with newer improved tactics of operation.
    It's a State of Mind.
    Impossible Challenges, Because what a Royal Marine does is change what's an impossible task in to a possible one, they decide what's possible.

    Teams of 12 is genius. 12 has more multiples than 8 meaning you have a more flexible team. You can have 3 teams of 4, 2 teams of 6 or 4 teams of 3, even 6 teams of 2.

      Yea, multiples are really versatile. We were using them in NI for years and later in Afghanistan. You can patrol in depth with 3x 4 man bricks giving mutual support, meet up at prearranged grids to make an 8 man VCP with a 4 man satellite, or 2x 6 man teams supporting each other. They are a good size for a basic fighting patrol or small scale ambush.

    Small units are going to be in the double digit strength come the future. As much as we'd like to believe we will be fighting unconventional foes forever, it is likely conventional war will be fought sometime soon. The USMC is increasing their squad size from 13-15, and the CAF is pressing to make infantry sections at least 10 soldiers strong. More soldiers means more barrels on the enemy, more weaponry to be carried and at a greater variety as well, the squad/section is experiencing a rebirth as it did in the First World War.

    Not a bad idea really given marines high level of training and self-motivation.
    However if troop sizes are dropping from 30 to 12 then surely that means 3 Commando Brigade will have to expand and create new commandos (battalions) to accommodate the new troops formed.
    Unless 3 Commando Brigade is having its overall size and number of marines cut down.

    • @TopHatHat
      @TopHatHat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      its 12 instead of 8, the size is actually increasing

    • @tams805
      @tams805 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are sections (squads in some other militaries). So the section size is increasing from 8 to 12, which as the video said allows them to have more specialists, as well as giving them more options in terms of dividing up into fire teams, etc.
      As far as I know, the Royal Marines are changing in size. They'll just take every three sections or so (it'll be different in practice due to specialisations) and turn them into two sections, if this trial goes well.

    • @maxpowerii7368
      @maxpowerii7368 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TopHatHat what’s the advantage of that? Adding more troops to a section isn’t beneficial to a specialised force. That makes marines more similar to infantry than less I would suggest.

      One thing nobody seems to consider about the Chinese military. The last time they saw any combat was in Vietnam so none of the fighting troops have seen any action. The "little emperor" culture has also greatly softened them as male children have not seen any form of hardship within the officer classes.
      Basically any form of accurate resistance and they would likely withdraw

  • @trevorhart545

    Please define the term "Team" since it has many different values.
    Firstly are we Increasing the overall size of a Battalion?
    Are we decreasing the overall size?
    Are we integrating "support" units into teams?
    What is the logic behind this?
    IS THIS COST SAVING?
    Is this a "REAL INVESTMENT" to enhance and increase the Royal Marines? = that is what PM BoJo has promised!
