I'm hoping all the parts line up with that - probably one of the greatest restos to come to TH-cam given his previous work, which ... as far as i'm concerned, is museum grade.
I'm glad you added the last segment in. The average person like me doesn't realize what it takes to sustain a "TH-cam" chanel. It's a full time job within a full time job, and you do it soo well! Thanks for keeping up the great work.
The wooden D2 cab is going to happen when it happens, people need to understand there are only so many hours in the day. As long as you are putting up content, I’m happy. You do a very professional job in all of your videos. Thanks and keep it up.
Fantastic in depth explanation of a swinging draw bar. It was very apparent to us that the previous owner of Lefty very much understood the benefits. The swing plate has a substantial dish to prove it. Your draw bar adapter is also a very clever piece of engineering! Well done video. 👍 Hope the weather cooperates so we can all get some paint done.
Congratulations on your TH-cam channel anniversary, it has been a wonderful journey watching you grow along with all your hard work. Thank you for all the wonderful hours of entertainment, watching the two of you rebuilding Machines and Land in a very professional and wholesome manner.

[add] I'm happy with what ever content you display. You are fulfilling a dream for me as I never had a chance to operate heavy equipment.
The swinging drawbar explanation just makes to much sense, especially when you used the visual aid, being raised on 3 point hookup implements I never really gave it much thought...Great Video
I watch you tube because its real! I don't expect videos to be perfect. I wish more of you guys would show "bloopers" its real life lol! I know I'm sure not perfect! Your toy demo was awesome
You will find that once you get used to operating the grader, the back blade on the tractor will seem very limited in its application. The grader is a very versatile tool.
An excellent episode, especially the swinging drawbar demo........ I've been trailing implements all my life (wheeled tractors) and never ever considered the principles at work here. You are one of the few channels that I watch from beginning to end every episode; always engaging , always informative. Your format is spot on for me, thank you, HowardT
Awesome explanations. I remember the F-20 with cable breaking system. It was tricky to learn. Almost dangerous at times if not in full control. That's the tractor I learned on. When my dad up graded to more modern tractor a whole new way to make the corners and end rows. Growing up on small farms there was a lot to learn. Thanks for great video.
I found your comments about a free swinging draw-bar interesting, because I spent my youth on an old M&M 21-32 pulling tillage equipment. It was old enough that it did NOT have turning brakes. The free swinging draw-bar was a must, and you also learned how to work the throttle to assist the turn. Keep up the good work. I've found your X 231 videos quite interesting.
Cat actually made an ag extension for use with implements that had a double hitch like cats have. Its other purpose was to create the correct length when using the pto. I had one on my d4.
Thanks for that really clear explanation about the importance of a pull point at the center of the tractor. During the restoration of 5J1113 you mentioned that many people use the swing plate as an attachment point, rather than the drawbar, and that that is extremely bad practice. The broken swing plate mounts that resulted are clearly one reason for the rule, but I now see why the drawbar pivots at the center of the machine. It's not just that its mounting point is heavily reinforced, but its location was also chosen very carefully.
Just a trick I've learned then pulling the Plowmaster 100 behind the Deere 5400. The clevis I'm using to work in place of the plow hitch ring has a smaller pin than the hole in the drawbar. I just use assorted bushings, those used to go from Cat 2 to Cat 1 and such on 3 point lifts, to make it fit well. Your explanation on the unpinned drawbar makes sense. That explains why you didn't worry about lifting the disc for turns, as I was taught growing up.
Toby, re the D2 cab install, I seem to remember that you needed to source another fuel tank/seat base, as the cab wasn't a direct drop-in without cutting the existing tank, which you didn't want to do.
Unpinning the drawbar is guidance provided by Cat. Plenty of folks "don't read the manual for anything so no surprise that this info can be a surprise even to long-time crawler users
Great drawbar demo , clears up a lot.. I don't understand why folks can't read even a little bit before typing. Probably also why no one knows how to edit a reply either. Congrats to your YT channel birthday !
Thanks! Funny story, people just not reading things has been a common theme even back in my Ford dealership days - we used to jokingly refer to the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual as “The Vault” because that’s where Ford stored all of its best kept secrets - literally nobody read those things 😂
Squatch, you are a a very talented and knowledgeable dude and entertaining too, I am glad you don't pull any of your video's down after a period as I look forward to re watching them
That was a valuable episode learned a lot and I really appreciate you sharing the drone incident but when I watch your video you make everything look so easy and I am thinking well what am I doing wrong things don’t work that slick for me but you showed us it’s not all smooth sailing for you either and I thought it shows plenty of humility on your part explaining why you didn’t use the grader I appreciate honesty like that Squatch thanks for entertaining us and educating us 😀🇨🇦
Great episode. Your explanation of the value of a swinging drawbar was enlightening. I appreciate you sharing the issues with recording video with a drone. I have to admit laughing at the out takes. Thanks for your persistence in making really good videos by yourself.
Squatch: on having to type multiple responses to the same question: another option would be to copy the answer and save it as a text file. Then you can copy it and paste it into a blank response. It’s much easier to do than my clumsy explanation makes it sound. But I don’t want to discourage you from your video answers. :-)
Thanks for the explanation of having a swinging drawbar. On the farm in South Dakota my dad always took all the pins out of the drawbar so it could swing the maximum on the Farmall Super H when we were disking. Apparently he must have read the manual. I just never thought about the reason since I was a kid at the time and thought he must know what works best. We also greased the disk bearings morning and noon because he said that grease was cheaper than steel.
Thanks, Squatch Really good and informative explanation on drawbar operation with a really nice die cast model 👍 Perhaps the grader needs a D2 style rebuild? 🙏 Whenever you're not too busy for another project 😂 P.S. Happy Birthday to the channel and I loved the drone blooper 👍

Has good power but like yours after running slowing to idle is smokes When it does I gun it a little and it usually stops Luckily it does not slobber. If you come across a remedy please keep us informed. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, my plan right now is to just get more working hours on it, I’m thinking 50 minimum and then re-evaluate. After I honed and re-ringed the diesel on my other 5U it finally really cleared up around the 90-100 hour mark on the meter. Otherwise, it’ll be the old “Bon-Ami” treatment as a last resort 👍
Another great video with lots of explanations and information. I have a question though about the front end loader that used to be on the Super-M. Completely unrelated to the video, but do you think a healthy hydraulic system in a super M could run an older round baler? I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one and running it behind my Mta. It was rebuilt prior to me getting it as a 281. On a side note I purchased a DJI mini4pro last October as a flymore kit and with the higher end batteries. I can usually get about 30min or so of video even when recording in 4k. I love the active track feature as well as the other options it has. Next purchase will be a DJI camera for audio and on machine/ ground level shots like you. In my opinion you and Pete from Just a few Acres set the bar for vintage machinery videos.
Excellent video! happy channel birthday Try cutting /copying and pasting, for comments / answers that are similar it can /will save you time typing. Did you sell your pull type grader? If possible try using the PTO running an implement to load especially at an event where you could leave it in place for a long time.

Edit… now that I think about it, did LeTourneau make a unit for the D2? My 5T D4 has one, but now I’m not so sure about the D2. Maybe another episode; available accessories for the early twos.
With the d2 break in. It would be great if you had a baker fan and your belt pulley done. We did that for an old allis Wc we put together and worked great. Just an idea. I know you haven’t had time for that pulley but thought I’d give an idea
Why don't you have any shim washers to take up some of that up and down space with your adapter plate and the cat draw bar?? I would shim som of that out to reduce some ware !
As much as I want to see the grader get the 5113 treatment I would like to see the crusher working to provide gravel for the driveways and under the concrete for your buildings.

@@squatch253 Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. They have a TH-cam channel @AreaDieselService. They also do a good bit of collaboration with other YT folks (@DieselCreek and @WatchWesWork for sure) and have a warehouse of hard to find and obsolete stuff. There's a video they did for Diesel Creek's D8 turbo where they go into their 'archives' to find stuff to fix Matt's turbo and talk about all of the goodies they have that many places do not.
I'm very hesitant about sending anything off to a place that I can't easily drive to, because I've had a lot of bad luck in the past where I put the items in a box and it ends up being the last time I ever lay my eyes on them. Shipping is always a hit-or-miss deal for everyone, but it mostly misses when it comes to me and things that I can't easily replace lol
They kind of never did - areas of the Northwest US kept on using them the entire time, and now that the big rubber-tracked tractors are on the market, they’re really making a resurgence due to their lower ground pressure and ability to drive down paved roads 👍

Thanx
That is one of the old D4 models that the ACMOC club used to sell - although they don’t sell them anymore, a few can still be found for sale online or at swap meets & model collector shows. I believe it was made by Spec Cast.
@@squatch253 Thank you very very much for your precise hint !!
I found 'em 😀
Duct tape is your friend 😅 Welcome it!
@squatch253 can Area Diesel Service do anything with those injectors? They seem to be the place for odd/old diesel stuff. Happy Channelversary too!
I’m not familiar with them, where are they located?
@@squatch253 Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. They have a TH-cam channel @AreaDieselService. They also do a good bit of collaboration with other YT folks (@DieselCreek and @WatchWesWork for sure) and have a warehouse of hard to find and obsolete stuff. There's a video they did for Diesel Creek's D8 turbo where they go into their 'archives' to find stuff to fix Matt's turbo and talk about all of the goodies they have that many places do not.
Headquarters in Carlinville, Illinois,I believe
👍Anniversary comment👍
I'm very hesitant about sending anything off to a place that I can't easily drive to, because I've had a lot of bad luck in the past where I put the items in a box and it ends up being the last time I ever lay my eyes on them. Shipping is always a hit-or-miss deal for everyone, but it mostly misses when it comes to me and things that I can't easily replace lol
One last post Q & A question
When did crawlers fall out of favor as farm equipment? 🤷♂️ ✌️🤙
Oops thought I deleted this guess it posted anyways 🤷♂️
They kind of never did - areas of the Northwest US kept on using them the entire time, and now that the big rubber-tracked tractors are on the market, they’re really making a resurgence due to their lower ground pressure and ability to drive down paved roads 👍
😎 guess it was a valid question thanks
