I don't need any. I jumped the gun on the need. After looking at DUH 🙄 my manuals I found the clutches are different due the application. I "assume"d they were similar but was wrong. 🤦 Sorry aboot that.
Your team is up on early history details. Where did R come from and go to? I’ve heard Road District, Research and most likely Rhudolf Diesel. I wonder if the dropped R coincided with his departure of Caterpillar Co?
That makes complete sense. I've heard a lot of great stories about McCoy caterpillar. Our family was actually customers for a while before they were bought out by Wagner. 😊👍
Hello, Well Squash told us about your channel and i have really enjoyed the videos I have watched so far. Looking forward to enjoying many more videos regarding your Cats. My father had one when I was about 7 years old. I am 82 years old now. He rented a farm and found an exhaust pipe sticking out of the ground on the edge of one field. Started digging and guess what he found... a D4 cat buried in the buckshot mud. He dug it up, cleaned it off, cranked it up and used it for many years. I actually got to drive it a little bit thanks to our wonderful operator. Sam USA Ms
Thank you! I love the Minnes too. Have a bunch of hours on a G900 working at the neighbor's dairy. They were hard core MM people and later White. Ran a Z for a while too. It had a tragic end while they were burning ditches.
We got x2 D2, 5J's patiently waiting for some love. My pop is gathering enthusiasm more and more from each video you put out. All the best, from fellow tractor Nerds 👍🏻
Great and informative video. I learned a lot. Really enjoyed your investigative abilities. Thought for a minute I was watching Magnum PI. Great mustaches must investigate alike.
BeeGee hydraulic kit, made kits for everything! Nice addition. Too bad you don’t have the implement it pulled, sounds like they were buddies for several decades.
I really like the information that you give me on the machines keep it up and my heart goes out to you for your cat I got one and she is part of the family
Very Spielberg of you sneaking in the Wilhelm scream at 2:50. Laughed and almost spilled my coffee! Certainly lots of differences on those early machines. Thanks for pointing out the radiator sides and early fuel tank cutout. Nice original machine you have there. I probably shouldn’t go here as some are passionate about this, but one might ask what the R in RD stands for. Rudolf Diesel? Roosevelt? Road District? Nothing at all? Might as well ask what engine oil to use while you’re at it! Haha, good luck with all the controversy as one may ever know. Love your work.
I was always under the impression it stood for regular. As in regular gasoline. Hence the R4 that was a gasoline version only D4. RD was regular-diesel. When the R4 was discontinued they transitioned to D for diesel. I could be totally wrong but that's what I read. I'm glad you like the Wilhelm scream. 😂 when I first watched it myself I laughed.
Dad always called those “thermoids”. Manufacture’s company name. Connects the flywheel to the main clutch on older machines. i.e. Cat 60, 2U, 8R, 1H D8s. Easily visible on a Cat 60. Visible under the floor board on the old D8s. Different lengths for the various machines.
Sure glad ole Squatch 23 sent me over to your channel. If I can ever help you guys out done here in Dallas Ft Worth let me know. I’ve got plenty of space to store a CAT for you if you get one bought down here. My brother and I have a CO trip to Ft Collins in the spring so we can haul up something if you get it bought.
It’s amazing to me how the world goes round some like Fords some like Farmalls some like rainy days some like sunny days and I have learned that for the most part when you love something it’s usually for life and you can’t help yourself you love it and that’s all there’s to it 😀🇨🇦
I now see that the link you showed was for a clutch, so many have pointed out. Me, being the ignorant one (I'm a car electrician- me know _NO_ - _THINK_ ! about Cats) thought it was a leaf spring shackle.😅
A friend's Father worked at the Minneapolis Moline factory. He chuckled at the purists. The color changed slightly with each drum of paint. There was no perfect Harvest Gold. Two consecutive implements could have a different color. I'm guessing Caterpillar was the same.
That was definitely the reaction we got at the paint store. He told us all the major manufacturers bid out paint production annually. No two batches were ever alike. 👍
Yes yes yes The rubber thingy you asked about is a rubber shock absorber for a cat manual clutch on a 9K motor grader. If you wish to sell them let me know. I have two 9K’s and an 8T. Some day I may need them.
@ There is a fellow TH-camr that really needed some and they live much closer to you than I do. For the life of me I can’t remember who it was. Diesel Creek, Pacific Northwest Hillbilly 🤷♂️ but I will go back and look 👀. I’ve got a few hours before the sun comes up.
I was totally wrong about them belonging to the 9K motor grader. However I am correct about them being part of a dry clutch for an early Cat styled D6 with D318. Channel “ Begin Living Like a Boss” name of video “Started D6 Fixes” at the two minute mark you can see where they go.
@ Yeah it turns out this ol’ guy has a whole bunch of yard art himself. 😂I’ll check on my 8T it also has a dry clutch with a D318. I check back with ya over on ACMOC. THANKS
We called the rollers as well. Frankly as field grunts, we did not know nor even care. Grease em, fire her up and let her rip (well in our case it was a JD350B and it was a 4 in 1 bucket so it was doze, scope and clamp, but crawlers is crawlers as much as I love the Cat crawlers)
LOL, I never did join the local chapter. They were on the way out, so I waited. I am still a proud member of the international ACMOC club. It would have been fun to be part of a local chapter though.
I would have love to. Unfortunately, we have some bad news about Big Stripes. I did a video about it on this past Thursday evening. It was not on the usual video schedule.
That is a clutch link. I have them on my D6. One of which blew apart. There are 5. One new one is $243 bucks. Currently replacing it today.
Do you need one Milt? You can PM me on ACMOC if you are a member or send me an email. I think Dan wants one too. I have 5.
@ thanks but I got the replacement link already. 👍
I don't need any. I jumped the gun on the need. After looking at DUH 🙄 my manuals I found the clutches are different due the application. I "assume"d they were similar but was wrong. 🤦 Sorry aboot that.
@Fatamus No worries Dan. I'm sure some use will pop up!
Your team is up on early history details. Where did R come from and go to? I’ve heard Road District, Research and most likely Rhudolf Diesel. I wonder if the dropped R coincided with his departure of Caterpillar Co?
Hi mate thanks for sharing I love all those old machines keep them videos coming
Thats a nice RD4 the cleaner got...good for him.😊
He's definitely over the moon about that tractor!
That is a nice RD4 your dad got, a good addition to the D4 fleet.😀
If you were in Colorado, and purchasing a used machine from the dealer, the proper term for the yellow stuff on the metal was (a) McCoy Overhaul.
That makes complete sense. I've heard a lot of great stories about McCoy caterpillar. Our family was actually customers for a while before they were bought out by Wagner. 😊👍
Nice video, I love your collection.

Now that is a great story! It really shows the durability and longevity of these machines. Welcome to the channel! I really owe Squatch! 😊👍
Good Saturday
What a treasure trove of history!!
Good Saturday morning. That machine was one heck of a find! Looking forward to seeing it running.
We are too, Especially Dad! Mom "made" him go on vacation, LOL! We will be putting it together soon.
That's a thermoid (sp?). They are used in the dry clutch which my first D65R had. I had to replace them a few times.
A beautiful machine, so glad it has been preserved.
We love this machine! Lefty and the RD4 will be a great pair to take to shows.
Very informative thank you
P.S. I also watch the ads in full and I've even ordered from one 👍
Thank you very much! That really helps us out!
Good comparison video! And I'm a Minneapolis Moline guy, but i still love to move dirt with a late model Cat D7G.
Thank you! I love the Minnes too. Have a bunch of hours on a G900 working at the neighbor's dairy. They were hard core MM people and later White. Ran a Z for a while too. It had a tragic end while they were burning ditches.

Sounds like a perfect father and son D2 duo! That makes my day!

Thanks Bill! I guess that would make Dad, Higgins? Now to find a Ferrari.....
Good stuff
Thank you, Tom! Dad is really excited about this tractor!
Yes indeed,
I am a new viewer, kinda, squash told me about your site and your site is very I formative. I will be a loyal viewer
Thank you! We're very happy to have you here with us. Squash is a great guy and helped us out quite a bit. 👍
BeeGee hydraulic kit, made kits for everything! Nice addition. Too bad you don’t have the implement it pulled, sounds like they were buddies for several decades.
They told us they pulled a ditcher with it. That was really it's only job on the potato farm. It's sat inside a barn until they needed ditches. 😊👍
@@lifeafterourloss too bad you couldn’t find it, you need something for all those RD4’s to do!

Excellent thank you! I'm going to have to look for those next time I see a 60.
Always wondered why they were called that.
Your dads 4 must be one of the best out there, great video
Thank you! It's definitely the pride of the fleet now. 😊
@lifeafterourloss it's a class act that's for sure, perfect example of the true survivor

I will have a look. Appreciate the pointer. 😊👍
Love the minutiae!
Yup, I trip over my tongue all the time too! lol. I can't wait to see a video of you and your dad each driving a RD4 together
LOL. We have a side-by-side operating video planned for the summer.
