You could save a ton of money if you used 1" black iron pipe. To hold the foam on you could use a washer and drill a hole for a pin to retain it. You could them use a 1" black iron end cap to lock it onto the rack.
I made these recently using the same process. My rack uses 5/8 hardware. It’s not as strong 1 inch hardware but I have had zero issues. I mostly use them for Nordic curls. I love them.
The very fact that you provide links to all of the items used to build your accessories is GOLD! I really appreciate it. Although I use an angle grinder like a maestro, I'm going down to Harbor Freight to buy a cheap chop saw just to have around. Thank you. 💯💯💯
Awesome, I’m glad you appreciate it. I had been using an angle grinder for all of my metal cutting needs but got this chop saw used on marketplace for cheap. It was so worth it. Keep in touch! Let me know how yours turn out!
This is exactly th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUHHotQRjIQnfuxEeVotlkHVYWH0DXZoS what I needed to get some exercise while I'm stuck at my desk all day. It's just the right size. Only downsides are that the right oeddale unscrews itself while I use it and increasing the tension causes it to squeak while in use. Both are minor issues that aren't that important to me. So I give it 5 stars.
I am bummed about the 5/8" rod being so weak. Thanks for testing it out and for providing some alternatives. This is a cool project, really simple too.
If you're not in an hurry aliexpress sells 2 similar foam for like 12$ a pair (and there's plenty of different shapes, colors and sizes) Try searching all these words: Sponge Foam Rubber Tube Wrap Cool project bud !
That is really good to know. I don’t understand why foam is so hard to find. There are only a handful of varieties on Amazon. Now I need to check out aliexpress! Thanks man!
Kyle!!!! Amazing build man! The 1" pads look and seem to function perfectly. I am excited to see how the pads hold up with time. As for the 5/8"...the lack of support offered by threaded rod/pins is a large driver of me switching to a 1" rack. Awesome video!
Thanks Kurt! Yeah the pads feel great. I’ve never purchased leg rollers from anyone so I have no basis for comparison, but these feel super solid. I’ll follow up with you in 6 months and 1 year to let you know how they’re doing. I’m with you, I think 1” is king. If I wasn’t making content with it, I would have passed on the 2x3 rack with 5/8” holes.
I've also found a plate storage holder with added foam works effectively. Tip - use a foam plyo box to lay on for nordic curls. Save you $600 from buying an actual nordic from Rogue.
@@KaizenDIYGym I was looking for t fringe sport weight storage posts but I don’t think they are sold separately. I have the discontinued Titan X2. It’s 2x3 tube with 5/8. Very hard to find accessories
I made these a couple years ago for way less money by purchasing a piece of 1" round steel bar from my local steel supplier and drilling a hole through the end for a hitch pin to secure it. Then I used a pipe clamp to hold the foam onto the other end. Total cost for 2 of them was $75.
This is great! thanks for the links to the foam. Been looking at designing and building something very similar for my Titat T2. Since I doesn't have side holes, so it is a little less straight forward.
I was actually a little surprised that the 5/8" didn't work, but I'm glad you took the high road and pointed out that it was a non-starter. I guess the sheer length of the threaded rod subjects it to too much torque.
@@CubicleJ0ckey I ended up getting a combination threaded weight pin and foam covering from CFT Performance. I'm sure that if my rack had 1" holes, the approach on the video would have worked just fine, but I'm happy with the store bought alternative.
I’ll have to do a little more research on that. The .75” black pipe I currently have has an outside diameter just over an inch, so it doesn’t fit in the holes on my rack. The .5” fits loosely. I’ll keep digging and see if I can find anything that works.
Seeing how the 5/8" bolts failed on the leg rollers, I'm wondering if the 5/8" bolts I just got (with the inclusion of PVC pipes) would do well in making a DIY dip station by inserting them in some safety arms
Great build! Do you think using a series of 1 inch pipe nipples would accomplish something similar? I'm thinking a 12 inch nipple with an end cap for the foam roller section itself, with a connector acting as the inside washer/nut to hold the foam in place, and then another nipple the length of my rack's upright with another end cap?
That’s definitely an option. I like the idea of easily being able to raise and lower the height of my leg rollers but I also love working with what you have. Thanks man!
I bought the strengh stray dog goat and a 1" leg roller and a 5/8" foam roller from rogue to use rhe goat for leg curls the 5/8" rogue roller won't go into the home I need it to go do to the way it attaches like a j cup and it gets in the way with goat:( i just need the 5/8" roller to put it under leg for support when doing leg curls. Do you think it will bend or will it be better to make the 5/8" hole to a 1" hole and just buy another 1" leg roller ??
I've just ordered on rogue, 120$ per piece. I'm not sure how much of a saving DIY would actually save considering far lower quality and low user friendly "interface"
Love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comment section below!

For the 5/8 holed racks you could just use the pin pipes safeties with padding on them, you just need to use them in the rack for it to work.
That’s probably the easiest way to accomplish this
@@KaizenDIYGym and it’ll be rock solid

You can also cut pvc with string
I believe CFT has leg rollers too for 1” and 5/8 that are affordable
That is correct. A great option for people who live in the US.
Barbell Ingenuity is offer a 5/8 straight bar leg roller an some other unique items.
That’s an excellent option!
3/4" gas pipe could be used cheaper and drilled for the same quick release pins.
I’d love to see your version. It sounds like it’ll probably work. Let me know how it goes.
This looks a great build. Very useful. Do you think this could be done with black iron pipe cheaper? (malleable iron)

Haha, yes! I’m taking submissions if you’re interested in being the safety video sometime.
What brand is your black sweatshirt with the samurai on the front of it from the beginning of the video?

I tried but the outside diameter of the .75” pipe nipples was too big for the 1” holes on my rack.
Would the 5/8” be reliable enough just as a leg holder for lat pull-downs? I’m tempted to try

use your flat bench as a leg roller.

How is the foam density? Is it from enough? How does it hold up overtime? Thanks for a great video.
Density is perfect. These have held up well over the last year. They still look and feel brand new.
If anyone is building these current day, the REP rollers for the 5000 are now $99 a PAIR or $49.99 single.
Nice! Definitely much better to buy than to build.
Who makes that hoodie???
It’s my tattooer’s design. He sells them on Store Frontier www.storefrontier.com/product/deathhannya
do you think it's possible to make one with 2 pads? one on each side of the rack bar? I mean using the same hole?
That seems plausible
