@@kernowpictures2002 anakin was not dead, he was never dead just buried deep and would come out in some major events. but at this point vader had consumed him like majin did with vegeta.
Disagree. This whole duel, Anakin didn't care so much about killing Kenobi as he did in just defeating him. Anakin only desired to kill him after his limbs were cut off and you can tell by the color of his eyes. His eyes stayed normal the entire duel until he lost his limbs and that's when they changed to Sith color, and that's when he had a true and non conflicted desire to kill Obi-Wan. It should be noted that Kenobi drew his light saber first, and had Vader not been conflicted, Obi-Wan would have got wrecked.
I like both, but for different reasons. I’ve always loved the quick and flashy, flourishes, and strikes in the movie, but the fighting in the animation is a lot more methodical and powerful looking. Fact is, that they’re both done so well!
@@TheSuperSaiyan4GamerIt's actually seriously impressive that a fan animation of all things would be just as great as imo the best Star Wars duel. Best at intimating it at least. It legitimately looks like it's from the Clone Wars cartoon.
I like the extra focus on the CLones at the end. Like this was really on the Clone Wars lol and they changed the order of the shots at the end to get one last focus on Vader. Brilliant. What a great shot of him.
That 5:31 shot was such a missed opportunity in the original. Like how can you not spot that this is the perfect spot where John Williams intended for you to put the eruption?
Not sure if you ever saw the galaxy of adventures sort animations Disney did but that scene is actually from that, thought that was a cool touch as well!
@@boldnbrash5646 true, but I'm talking more about the exact placement at this mark in John Williams' music, where as in the original you see a relatively unexciting shot of Anakin turning around to look at something you don't see until a few shots later to be a volcanic eruption. Seems like terrible cinematography which you only notice after you see what it could have been. The original has a similar shot before the cut to Yoda, but it isn't a lightsaber lock while it clearly should have been, and it's at a point in the music that isn't building tension.
Most likely because a similar "heroes clash with an eruption in the background" was used a few seconds earlier. But I can see why they added a second one, more reminiscent of the movie poster
@@boldnbrash5646 I'm pretty sure this shot was originally in the trailer too and they did a lot of work to make the lightsabers exposed correctly but it got cut in the movie
2:50 the music is at the same part when Mace Windu made that "Super Evil Angry Face" towards palpatine in a locked clash of red and purple saber beams.
The animation can often feel weightless and floaty, but I admire the dedication to even some of the smallest movements in the original they work to replicate. Very cool.
There are slight things I feel like the actual clone wars animators would've done differently especially with the movements but overall this is amazing work
If this was in the show, I would’ve cried and it would’ve hit so much harder. This is also given me a new appreciation for Hayden. He did an amazing job as anakin, especially in these scenes! You can really feel the anger and that’s what makes it so heartbreaking! Anakin’s story is just.. so heartbreaking, especially with how much we got to explore all the characters in the clone wars which makes me love, and hate watching it all the same
The level of detail that went into matching the choreography is astonishing And honestly side by side like this if you aren’t looking that closely the visuals look the exact same, it’s a weird optical illusion It’s also strange how for their retrospective characters Matt and Hayden are Listening to Hayden while looking at Clone wars Anakin just feels off same goes for listening to Matt while looking at live action Anakin It’s strange I still wanna see a complete clone wars redub of the prequels, and a live action redub of the clone wars tbh
I can't help but love Anakin's expression after Obi Wan expresses his love for him as someone he considered a brother. The expression that Anakin had after hearing that looked like if even for a split second Obi Wan had reached Anakin. Maybe if the moment hadn't been interrupted by Anakin catching on fire then maybe they could have talk things out and maybe reach some sort of compromise or some sort of understanding.
I think it was even said, that at this point he always thought obi-wan just saw him as a student & when he broke his own code to express how he felt it was unexpected
Wow. They took already superb scene and managed to improve it in every way possible! And that Anakin's/Vader's last stare where, despite the mask, you can see all of his remorse. Simply marvelous.
Not gonna lie I love Clone Wars more and prefer Matt Lanter as Anakin, Hayden will always be great, but it’s my preference. So seeing Anakin in this fight as the Clone Wars version just hits harder having grown up with the clone wars. Also love how Hello There extended some scenes, and reworked around some dialogue parts.
Ngl, I watched Clone Wars for the first time in 2022 but I do prefer the Matt Lantern version so much more. I was 9 when RotS came out so it has a very special place in my heart, but the Clone Wars is what made me obsessed with Star Wars in general and one of the main reasons is Lanter’s portrayal of Anakin, so I definitely agree. Now I can only hope someone can edit this into the last 2 episodes of Clone Wars. Seeing this inter-spliced with Ahsoka fighting for her life during Order 66 would hit so freaking hard. Especially with that very last 5 or so minutes of the Clone Wars which already made me cry on its own lol -Zach
The reworked dialogue came from the latest Lego Star Wars game which is where most of the audio came from. It finally gave Matt Lanter and James Arnold Taylor the opportunity to do the Mustafar Fight
Seeing TCW Anakin and Obi-Wan dueling on Mustafar is the closure I never knew I needed for my marathon of The Clone Wars. The movie's duel will always hold a special place in my nerd pantheon and I'm just elated we get both now.
This just shows much much this piece of animation is a pure labour of love. Some parts made slower to accentuate impact, and additions made that take from behind the scenes footage. Hats off to the team who did this.
They should’ve made Hayden look more remorseful, rather than evil, he was supposed to be doing it all for Padme, not for himself, if he had any self control he would’ve at least felt guilty having to attack his master that he had known for 90% of his life
well at the end of everything we all know that Anakin actually did it for himself, we can’t really blame him tho bc he was very unstable with the force, with his emotions, was manipulated and had a very difficult internal conflict, but we can’t deny that he acted very selfish once he fully turned into a sith, that’s just what they are, arrogant, selfish, egoists. They do not care about anyone but themselves, as Obi-Wan said, only a sith deals in absolutes, for example how he just decided to choke Padme assuming she betrayed him and totally forgetting or more like not caring anymore that she was the reason he was doing all this stuff for, and I think that’s what they wanted to show us, that this man wasn’t Anakin anymore but Lord Vader.
Padme never asked for this. In fact she told him to stop. The moment he decided to keep going he was doing it for himself. He deluded himself into believing he knew better and that the ends justified the means. But they didn't. And in the end anakins most forthright thought was to overthrow the emperor. Not save padme. Because the moment she got in his way he crushed her.
I know I'm not the first person to mention this, but the animation really makes you feel every hit. It reminds you that Anakin is a true master of Djem-So, and he's trying to kill Obi-Wan here. And Obi-Wan is having to fight for every breath in this battle.
I know i agree i feel like the animation broughtbout Anakins skill alot more and his strong intent to kill Obi. The movie sorta had them mostly dead even with a intent the Obiwan is holding back. This animation had Obiwan having a hard time staying alive
What I love about the animation it added more emotion specifically in the don’t try it scene. In the Original obiwans smile is almost cocky. In the animation he looks devastated when he says it. Nice little addition both are great.
To me, the animation has a sharper feeling in terms of their movements while dueling compared to the motions in the live action that feel more fluid and smooth. It gives off a slightly different feeling. Not worse, but different.
Even given the few differences, and the adding of a few things that technically would have occurred at the same time between Yoda's fight with Palpatine, love 'em both. Also, fun fact, with your little edit when Obi-Wan used that container on Anakin, and that brief jump to Vader doing the same to Luke and the caption he learned from Obi-Wan, that actually wasn't entirely the case. Revenge Of The Sith's fight was actually meant to be longer and a bit more intense with Anakin barraging Obi-Wan with objects and the like, so actually Obi-Wan had briefly attempted to use Anakin's trick against him.
In the book version of revenge of the sith (actually really good, highly recommended just for the first few chapters alone), the story keeps cutting in between Yoda vs Palpatine and Anakin vs Obiwan
I think for light saber fighting its animation hands down, we as humans are too sluggish to be able to perform the type of actions they do for lightsaber fights. So if this were a John Wick scene then irl would work way better because it’s more based in reality where star wars has always been better in animation in my opinion. It portrays the scene, story, emotions, what have you, way better.
@@Fck_the_atf I think for live action, a more grounded approach to sword fighting would work a lot better. Corridor Digital made a short film with an alternative approach to Lightsaber combat. It's named To The Death. But doing it that way is not shiny enough for the executives.
2:23 I am not sure if it was intentional but that backhand twirl anakin did in the animated version almost looks like Ani's cybernetic hand just went full on "Blender" mode. It's a nice touch. XD
God the end of the duel on Mustafar still hits so hard even nearly 20 years later. As hard as it gets memed on, that might be some of the best minutes of cinema ever put to film.
I thoughth the CW version had been like rotoscoped or something, I didn't realize it was an entirely new edit. Each fits for it medium, the CW version is directed like the show would have been directed so it feels show-accurate, and I think is an improvement in general but that's subjective. Again I cannot say enough times how much I appreciate this animation, it's what I always wanted. Ironically CW Anakin feels much more real to me because I've seen his whole story and it hits harder. My brain doesn't have to combine two diff versions, it's the Anakakin I know and love from CW. The work is flawless and just all around incredible, 10/10.
I kinda wished on the first scene you put the one made by Cinematic Captures on the left side because he used the battlefront 2 models which is close to live action. But still i absolutely love that you made this side by side video 🙌
I liked that he used it because it showed what Filoni/Lucas originally did (no matter how far they got) and it gives everyone a heads up of the true source material. Most people don’t even know that there was a deleted arc (several, to be exact) so hopefully by showing the OG animatic it piques some of their interest (and perhaps drums up the cause to get those fully animated/completed!)
This is one of the coolest fights in cinema history but you would think it gets to the point where they're fighting on floating debris over a lava river you would think they would make a temporary truce until they get to land where it would be safer to fight.
There’s concepts and storyboards were they do have a temporary truce to fight off a lava monster. I can definitely understand why they’d cut that out tho
You get a different perspective of how young both Hayden and Anakin really is. Anakin Skywalker isn't a 30-something year old, mature, experienced person. He's a rash, impulsive young person. Hayden's performance really pushes that perspective, while Matt Lanterns has an edge of "The Master of Ahsoka" that hides how young and immature the character really is.
While it's true that the animation won't be better than the live action. I will give the animator (and all those involved) credit for doing such a fantastic job, I almost believed that this was in the show itself. Animating this would have no doubt been difficult and there were a few details that could have been improved such as the animation expression, some of them didn't quite match the expression of the voice.
What's funny about this is that Padme just dies, even though she's surrounded by high-end medical technology and droids that are monitoring everything. Bravo George!
I never got the fact that when he's on the gurney after the surgery and the helmet was being put into place: why is he wearing the cape? You'd think that's something that gets put on later.
3:57 Obi-Ani Spins like why do they do this during fight isn't one of them worried about the other aiming for an exposed part of the body and injuring them. Big lesson to take away exposing yourself was the only way for Kenobi to cut down Anakin and for Anakin as Vader to cut down Obi-Wan
The only thing I have is that it's sad that the animated version couldn't hit their facial expressions. They were both crying at the end of the fight. Also Padme's expressions.
I like the almost elastic look of the blades in the 3D version. It really helps to sell the sort of smearing animation techniques that's present in the live action fight.
If it wasn’t for this video, I wouldn’t have been able to see the subtle differences at 12:18. The fanmade video looked so positively real at that point that for a moment I almost thought it was the actual video. I swear, the constant advances in technology NEVER fail to amaze me
Looks like us fans need to finish these animatic clone wars episodes ourselves. Considering Disney is too stupid to not put their animation team to work on them.
Huh? You know that PEOPLE make these animations, not robots right? People who need breaks, food and water. Animation isn't exactly easy work plus the clone wars ended in a completely different perspective then the actual film. It's clear you know nothing about animation, pacing and film making.
Wow this is fanmade? It’s incredible. I love the original but it was admittedly over the top even just as much as it was epic. Somehow being animation makes it more believable.
After watching both episode 3 and the clone wars series as a child this duel hits harder in animation form as i always had a hard time seeing animated Anakin being the same character in Episode 3. in animation form it seems that the relationship we see between Anakin and Obi wan in TCW just hits harder that these were two brothers fighting each other. It might just be me though that can barely see TCW Anakin and the live action counter part as the same character. But animated the fight between them just seems sadder, almost like a disconnect between the live action and animated character is just 100% gone and im seeing the Hero that is Anakin fall
9:34 I don’t know why, but when Anakin says “I hate you!”, I immediately remember the Mario creepypasta, where Luigi said the same phrase I guess FNF Mario's Madness had a bad influence on me, heh 😅
I can understand that, some of the dialogue is good with The Clone Wars Voices for Obi Wan and Anakin. But there are some parts that could use some.. Slight adjustment but both are without a doubt very well made but I honestly agree that I prefer the ROTS dialogue.
Agreed, Anakin's clone wars voice fitted more for just the TV show. It just doesn't sound right. Probably because I have gotten so use to Haden's. Obi-Wan's fits good enough though.
Wow Vader's suit looks fantastic. I mean I can't tell that it's animation. For comparison Vader in Rebels and the Clone Wars finale look purely animated. Here though he looks so perfect I can't even tell at times.
Sometimes I actually thought some of the background & clips where cut straight from the movie! That’s how good this is. Just finished TCW (again) and the original HGP video dropped literally the day after, such a nice way to round off the series
The sound is actually from Lego Skywalker Saga Game cause the clone wars voice actors voiced that too but good job catching the scrapped choreography from the dooku fight
It's good to know that even in this barren Disney era that the fans can still make great stuff from back before they ruined us. This is possibly the best thing that's ever been fan made that can get added to this universe.
The only thing I don't like about the animation is that Obi-Wans hair-do just is too perfect throughout the whole thing. Should have gotten more mussed as the fight went on like in the movie. Dude must be using some top-tier hairspray lol. Also a bit odd that they didn't include Tarkin in the end scene on the Star Destroyer?
When I first saw the animated duel, I thought a lot of the background shots, especially towards the end, were just edited in from the original with the animation of Anakin and Obi-Wan layered over it. Now, though, seeing the subtle differences really just gives me an appreciation for how much work was put into it all.
the clone wars style doesn’t quite fit this fight, but somehow it was almost on par with rots. i prefer the rots version but hello there did a magnificent job
The animated version just a tad more variation in the choreography and at parts it's actually better to me than the life action. even though like others have said, the live action version is flashier. The only thing they could've done better to me were the facial expressions. For the rest it's 9/10
By the way the Movie is better. The animated voice actors aren't as good as the OG actors and the fight scenes in the movies feel a lot more realistic unlike the animation which looks kind of stiff, but it's pretty good considering its only a fan re-creation with a small team

The fact that anakin was still trying to kill obiwan even as the world crupled around him shows just how lost he was.
Yeah facts I noticed the expression on Obi wan face , he was like” So he’s not gonna stop… he’s gonna do this till he kills me . “ he realized he had to stop him , bro was like a rabid dog at this point
He was Darth Vader Anakin was dead
@FoolishPrince i never thought of it that way. Kinda poetic. Like the lave burned away anakin and turned him fully into vader.
I like both, but for different reasons. I’ve always loved the quick and flashy, flourishes, and strikes in the movie, but the fighting in the animation is a lot more methodical and powerful looking. Fact is, that they’re both done so well!
Movie better.
@@VITAS874 Well,
I said I like both, so it’s not a competition for me.
I like to think of what the clones might have been thinking at this moment, probably like « Isn’t that our commander? What happened?! »
>you underestimate my power
>gets amputated
lol
Both moved me to tears, honestly... wow, they did their work over at Hello there animations
I agree with you! And it's even the shot from the official ROTS movie poster! I never understood why they didn't include it. @@mike64_t
HELLO THERE did a phenomenal job on this, I cant even begin to imagine how much effort they put into this.
2:50 the music is at the same part when Mace Windu made that "Super Evil Angry Face" towards palpatine in a locked clash of red and purple saber beams.
Some of the tweaks that Hello There did were absolutesly perfect that absolutely add weight and emotion to the characterisation.
5:31 that was a nod to galaxy of heroes. Nice touch
The game?
@@alexiserlexcc my bad galaxy of adventures. The anime shorts.
more like a good nod to an already existing deleted scene
the lighting and effects are amazing, the smoke effects from the jets and the lava splashes are impressive
The animation is fantastic, but to make it fair - Hayden's delivery of "I HATE YOU!" is hard to top. 😱😱
It just sounds so raw
yup, the end of the animation where anikan is groaning hurts tho
The animation can often feel weightless and floaty, but I admire the dedication to even some of the smallest movements in the original they work to replicate. Very cool.
I feel as though the force is amplifying their movements in a way reality can’t match
8:33 The HIGH GROUND epic scene. Both ROTS and Clone Wars scenes are amazing.
Anakin’s story is just.. so heartbreaking, especially with how much we got to explore all the characters in the clone wars which makes me love, and hate watching it all the same
The level of detail that went into matching the choreography is astonishing
And honestly side by side like this if you aren’t looking that closely the visuals look the exact same, it’s a weird optical illusion
It’s also strange how for their retrospective characters Matt and Hayden are
Listening to Hayden while looking at Clone wars Anakin just feels off same goes for listening to Matt while looking at live action Anakin
It’s strange
I still wanna see a complete clone wars redub of the prequels, and a live action redub of the clone wars tbh
It’s impressive how superior editing can make the same fight choreography seem better and more fluid
Especially with that very last 5 or so minutes of the Clone Wars which already made me cry on its own lol
-Zach
The reworked dialogue came from the latest Lego Star Wars game which is where most of the audio came from. It finally gave Matt Lanter and James Arnold Taylor the opportunity to do the Mustafar Fight
It's the same character anyway, but different voices
while i do agree that they are both good i still prefer Hayden
Your preference is wrong and crap then
Seeing TCW Anakin and Obi-Wan dueling on Mustafar is the closure I never knew I needed for my marathon of The Clone Wars.
I don't think it was for padme, it was kind of just the dark side taking over.
It more like The Dark side Connection is Stronger, no wonder Anakin is like that tho, He's already A Sith Lord there
Maybe he actually did it for him self , most fans believe that he did that for Padme or his mom but it was him all the time
Padme never asked for this.
I love how much love and effort they put into that series
It's hard to believe that this is fanmade. I already was about to look for an episode I might have missed in Clone Wars.
Thankyou for putting this together. 11/10.
I actually feel tensed up by this clone wars one, even though I know what happens i still feel like this is new, this is so amazing!
The light reflecting on Anakin's face when he drew his lightsaber was just *Chef's kiss*
A Masterful animation. Huge props to the artist.
Foreal. The way they stayed true to the art style while also staying true to the movie. Great adaptation
You earned a sub man I didn’t even realise some of these references until I saw this video 👍
To me, the animation has a sharper feeling in terms of their movements while dueling compared to the motions in the live action that feel more fluid and smooth. It gives off a slightly different feeling. Not worse, but different.
The little touches to what Anakin will become in Vader is amazing!
In the book version of revenge of the sith (actually really good, highly recommended just for the first few chapters alone), the story keeps cutting in between Yoda vs Palpatine and Anakin vs Obiwan
from an artistic composition standpoint, it's interesting to see what works better as live action, versus animation.
This is amazing. I cannot get over it.
So many details, what a pleasure to watch this
Excellent comparison video and editing! Well done and an amazing job by Hello There as well! All the intensity and depth captured beautifully. Cheers!
The film version was an all-time favorite of the saber duels, but I think the camera work of the animation was even better. Amazing work.
Apparently if they didn’t fight on Mustafar the duel would’ve either been a draw or just not happened
There’s concepts and storyboards were they do have a temporary truce to fight off a lava monster. I can definitely understand why they’d cut that out tho
Back in 2005 that part at 3:56 where after a couple strikes they spin they're sabers around made this my favorite duel of all time
This is the series finale to the clone wars we needed
Thank you for putting this together, I really appreciate it.
Almost 20 years past and this scene only gets more powerful as time goes on. Good to remember what Star Wars can be sometimes.
While it's true that the animation won't be better than the live action. I will give the animator (and all those involved) credit for doing such a fantastic job, I almost believed that this was in the show itself. Animating this would have no doubt been difficult and there were a few details that could have been improved such as the animation expression, some of them didn't quite match the expression of the voice.
casual take
Love how they recreated an unfinished episode, an amazing piece of art
Imagine the ratings if this was just an exclusive Clone Wars feature. There would be freaking Watch parties. And this would be after Ahsoka vs Maul.
3 years in the making, outstanding work team "Hello There".
4:07 love that they kept the fallen angel pose
Great comparison
10:06 thats the face of someone who just had their balls lit on fire
The only thing I have is that it's sad that the animated version couldn't hit their facial expressions.
They were both crying at the end of the fight. Also Padme's expressions.
5:40 i'm giggling at them both tryna run to semi-safety, pausing their fight for a second just to make sure they get to the end LMAO
I like the almost elastic look of the blades in the 3D version. It really helps to sell the sort of smearing animation techniques that's present in the live action fight.
That is also more accurate to how light works.
Nah they're too busy with their live action remake milking bullshit.
There is literally no reason for them to remake revenge of the sith in animated form
@@KoralTea I'm not talking about remaking ROTS. I'm referring to that unfinished clone wars episode they did at the beginning.
@@bilbobaggins9451 pal disney already closed the studios behind clone wars a few years back between 2020 and 2022
1:30 for some reason, that ‘you will try’ almost always makes me laugh
Man it still put tears in my eyes, so tragic.
Wow this is fanmade? It’s incredible. I love the original but it was admittedly over the top even just as much as it was epic. Somehow being animation makes it more believable.
Really didn't thought Anakins jump kick and obi wans kick to actually be in the movie
That’s so cool how they kept in the “Padme help me” @12:20
After watching both episode 3 and the clone wars series as a child this duel hits harder in animation form as i always had a hard time seeing animated Anakin being the same character in Episode 3. in animation form it seems that the relationship we see between Anakin and Obi wan in TCW just hits harder that these were two brothers fighting each other. It might just be me though that can barely see TCW Anakin and the live action counter part as the same character. But animated the fight between them just seems sadder, almost like a disconnect between the live action and animated character is just 100% gone and im seeing the Hero that is Anakin fall
9:34 I don’t know why, but when Anakin says “I hate you!”, I immediately remember the Mario creepypasta, where Luigi said the same phrase
I guess FNF Mario's Madness had a bad influence on me, heh 😅
I don't know why but I prefer the Revenge of the Sith dialogue
Edit: It's probably because of the memes
I can understand that, some of the dialogue is good with The Clone Wars Voices for Obi Wan and Anakin. But there are some parts that could use some.. Slight adjustment but both are without a doubt very well made but I honestly agree that I prefer the ROTS dialogue.
Agreed, Anakin's clone wars voice fitted more for just the TV show. It just doesn't sound right. Probably because I have gotten so use to Haden's. Obi-Wan's fits good enough though.
Some dialogues are from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, if you guys don't know.
@SonicFrozen_Fan2005_Official "The empire will thrive under my rule, but you won't be alive to see it!"
Hayden's "I HATE YOUUUUU" hits different yet, the pain in animated obi-wan's eyes is so palpable in the in the animated version.
Ok this is the next step for semi adult animation
Ok why didn’t they add that one line or shot in the Final Cut
This is the best animation ever hands down.
Epic, the fact they added deleted scenes aas crazy
The sound is actually from Lego Skywalker Saga Game cause the clone wars voice actors voiced that too but good job catching the scrapped choreography from the dooku fight
It's good to know that even in this barren Disney era that the fans can still make great stuff from back before they ruined us. This is possibly the best thing that's ever been fan made that can get added to this universe.
Both of them look so believable it hurts my 💔 awesome job
You did the Star Wars Community a service. Hopefully with this inspiration a new series of amazing Cinema for Star Wars.
The animated version just a tad more variation in the choreography and at parts it's actually better to me than the life action. even though like others have said, the live action version is flashier.
The only thing they could've done better to me were the facial expressions. For the rest it's 9/10
I like how the animated version copies down pretty much exactly what happened in the movie. The only differences having some extended shots.
By the way the Movie is better. The animated voice actors aren't as good as the OG actors and the fight scenes in the movies feel a lot more realistic unlike the animation which looks kind of stiff, but it's pretty good considering its only a fan re-creation with a small team
Yup 🤙🏻
This nearly looks like the original. Great work, really great work... :)
