I think its also important to note that not all people with sleep paralysis hallucinate demons or things of the such. I have sleep paralysis and I have never seen, heard, or felt anything while paralyzed.

I have been suffering with sleep paralysis for for as long as I can remember. Virtually every night I have vivid dreams that are almost like a continuation of what happens in reality. My dreams are generally about situations that happen with the same friends that I have in real life. I am now 87 years old and I often dream about friends and family members that have passed away. The dream paralysis is always in the morning when I wake up and they happen when I am crying out for help in the dream because of a situation where I need help in the dream. In the dream I am crying out for help and the next thing I know I am desperately trying to wake up always saying “help me…help me” in my dream and trying to scream out the same words while I am trying to remove blankets and get up. I desperately try to move my arms without success. My dreams are not scary as they often reflect what’s going on in my life at the time. Unfortunately I have them periodically but at least two or three times a month.

It happened to me twice and believe me, those scientists know nothing about what is really going on,
It happened to me once before I got saved, I was maybe 12 I was awake sitting at my bed and instantly I fall and I just can't move, I start saying the name of God and I would feel the kindness and the love of God but some contradicting force was trying to push me to say Satan and once I said his name I felt this anger just put on my spirit and it was just terrifying,
And that happened for couple of minutes before it went away and I never spoke about it because I was so scared,
And before two years now I became a disciple of Jesus christ and I started listening to Jesus christ and do what God wants, and I was sleeping and I just saw myself awake and I was cursing at Satan and telling him to leave my house and instantly a huge force just hit me in the spirit like a train and I was paralised for few seconds, I used the name of Jesus christ, and it instantly stopped,
Demons fear the name of Jesus christ and will never be able to barke because Jesus christ is our hope and as long as we are with him, no Demons can hurt us.

Here is my experience, I basically get sleep paralysis whenever I am incredibly tired, anyway I literally just woke up from a sleep paralysis, its been I would say 2 years since my last occurrence, a misconception is that during sleep paralysis you see demons and ghosts, nah its not like that at all, basically what happens at least for me is that, I am having an awful nightmare, and deep inside my brain it is creating a scenario for sleep paralysis to occur, during my nightmare I realise that I am dreaming, this causes me to prematurely wake my body into reality whilst my brain is in sleep mode, where it gets scary is that you’ve just seen a horific nightmare, now you are paralysed in a dark room not knowing who or what is behind you, after staying calm for 5 - 10 seconds I force myself out of paralysis and jump out of bed. What is important to mention is that whilst you are paralysed your brain is still realising abnormally high levels of fear chemicals through your brain which spark a “fight or flight” response

  • @pumpkineater23

I had this problem as a child. It happened several times a week. Weirdly I thought it was less likely to happen if I slept on my back. I would feel that I was floating towards the ceiling, I would see the ceiling coming closer and closer. Then I would feel a presence there with me. It was so frightening. Sometimes we would be together up in the dark loft, I would be unable to move or scream. This was the part that was so absolutely terrifying. I'm still feel uncomfortable going into a loft because of it. Occasionally I would float downstairs and see my parents watching TV. It lasted a year or two, I was very young, I guess just as I started to understand reality. I am 53 years old now and it is still ingrained in my memory…
It’s strange but I remember the exact moment when it all stopped. One morning (I was looking into the fridge) and just realised that I was now above it, too old for it. I was now in charge.. I knew I was over it. From that day on I never had the experience again.

This used to happen to me a lot between ages 12 up to age 35. I'm 47 now and haven't experienced it. It is awful. You wake but your body won't move. You are aware of your surroundings like you can hear the rain outside, or the cat jump off the bed, your spouse sleeping, etc. All I can do is try to wiggle out of the frozen state. The more I focus on wiggling, at some point I shake my body awake but I absolutely have to get out of bed or as I drift off I go back into that frozen state. As long as I get out of bed, move around a bit then it doesn't return. But yes it is awful. You are totally paralyzed and the fear of that is enough to frighten you. I learned to not fear it as it happened more and more so I would just tell myself, your ok, it will pass but you have to wiggle and focus on wiggling to break out of this state. It sucks for sure.

I couldn't open my eyes, couldn't move my legs- and I was sitting !!- but I could move my right arm(only that) when I wanted to stop it, I moved my right arm-but I couldn't move it that fast, I moved it like a sloth-put it right on my eye, and took the eye lid up, and instantly...my whole body moves.

A few years ago, i struggled a lot with stress, enxiety and depression that i would have sleep paralysis 3-5 times a night ( every hour) for almost six months and the weird/scary part is that most of the time it starts at 12am.
I have experienced all of it. The images that appears, including seeing a dark figure standing next to your bed or sitting on top of you, hearing voices such as children laughing next to you. I also experienced good things such as a light shining in the hallway outside my room and it felt like a light from heaven. I was never able to control my sleep paralysis after so many times but i learned to managed it instead of fighting: such as i stop being afraid. I would wake up, realizing my mind is awake but not my body, i would just lay and ponder about things until i can go back to sleep.
There were many times i would wake up in the morning in sleep paralysis, and just watch the sun rise through my windows while letting my body sleeps for a bit longer. This might be weird to say but at some slight degree i miss having sleep paralysis because it helped me realize about myself and my life in some therapeutic way. I don't have sleep paralysis anymore and i can sleep throughout the night just fine.

I just woke up about 10 minutes ago from an episode. Been having it off and on for years. I think I've had it since I was a kid. I used to wake up in a similar fashion trying to yell and move but couldn't but never knew what it was. My mom said I used to sleep walk when I was very little. She came in the room to check on my brothers and me and couldn't find me anywhere until she looked in a closet where I was sleep.

It is caused neither by demons nor by your brain: You're actually partially outside of your physical body in this state. If you encounter horrifying things while in sleep paralysis, those are just manifestations of your own fears, nothing threatening. Be courageous and stay calm and focus on trying to leave your physical body to induce an out-of-body experience. It's really amazing and fun. You are an immortal non-physical being having a temporary human experience, and learning to leave your body gives you the opportunity to find out what you truly are and lets you freely explore the entire universe.

my ones so far have all been mostly terrifyinggg.
My first ever sleep paralysis, I could "see" but I'm pretty sure my eyes were closed irl (ie. all in my head).
I was lying and on my side and could hear a man breathing behind me, with his arm around my waist. Needless to say, I was terrified. I tried to turn around to look behind me, but of course, I couldn't.
The other one, I was in my room and there was an earthquake, but I couldn't move. My entire room was shaking violently but I couldn't do anything.
What makes mine so terrifying is that they all occur in my room, but the "scary" things that happen aren't supernatural, so it feels very real.
Another was similar to the first, only it felt like someone was sitting on my stomach (like a small child).
And my most recent one was okay. I woke up, and couldn't move. But this time I was prepared and my brain immediately went, "right, this is sleep paralysis. You've been through this before, just try to wiggle your fingers and you can break out of it."
But yeah, all the times the only was I got out of paralysis was when I tried to move my fingers. If I successfully did it then my body would do that weird knee-jerk wake-up reaction thing, and kick me out of it.

It happens to me as I'm waking up so my eyes are closed but it's like the terror response in my brain is triggered, lucky I do not have hallucinations. I also usually have it during the day so often there is someone nearby and I try to get them to wake me up by moving my finger which is the only thing I can manage but it has never worked. Sleep paralysis is so panic-inducing even when I know it will go away eventually.

And I couldn’t see the demon at all until I stopped trying and I realised this wasn’t my reality and that’s when it came to an end, before the dream I had weird hallucinations of something, it’s weird how these things can happen, never knew what this was until it happened thanks sleep schedule

That was terrifying! I was really sleep deprived from staying up past midnight and not having a consistent sleep pattern. I went to take a quick nap before I went on with my day and woke up entirely unable to move. At first I panicked. I thought sleep paralysis meant you could at least feel your body, but that's not the case. I felt trapped inside my own, frozen body. It almost felt like someone or something was holding me down. Then my thoughts immediately jumped to season three of teen wolf when (my favorite character) styles had sleep paralysis. Somehow knowing what it was made it so much worse. Then, the shadows of my room began to creep inward toward me. It looked terrifying! Once they got right up to me the started blinking super quickly in and out of existence. Then, I finally shot up and rolled to my side, breaking like crazy and so thankful the feeling in my limbs was back, and it was no longer that terrifying, dull tingling.
I'm so relieved that this is at least somewhat common 😅
My hands are still shaking wtheck...

I have never once in my life had sleep paralysis, but one day I was just so tired I passed out on my parent's bed. I thought I had woken up because I heard my mom talking to someone so I got up and was trying to get up to go to my room, but I just couldn't move. The next thing I knew my window shattered and snow came in (i live in texas so this made no sense to me). I shut my eyes and I could feel something sitting on my chest. My brain kept telling me don't open your eyes you know it's gonna be something scary on top of you. So I held my breath and I woke up screaming, it was terrifying and my heart felt cold. I was shaking I told my dad what had happened and he explained to me the same thing happens to him( my dad is a vet with PTSD). He told me it was a smart idea for me to hold my breath. I never want to feel that way again.

My monster was a man with super thick eyebrows and a wide mouth and he was really tall. He just stared at me and got closer it felt like it lasted forever. Then he was all up in my face roaring in a deep voice. This went on for the rest of the night. I was mantally screaming but nothing came out. When I finally woke up I cried and I couldn't sleep for days. Its a horrible experience and if its never happened to you then you are lucky.
Edit: It's always that man. And apparently I'm not the only one who's seen him. I'm going to therapy now.

I had sleep paralysis episodes frequently when I was a teenager, a few times a month. I found that marijuana reduced the frequency of my episodes and was very effective, although occasionally still had episodes every so often when using it. I smoked frequently for 4+ years and it had always helped. I have recently quit marijuana for about a month, or at-least am taking a long break, and my sleep paralysis has quickly returned. In the past 3 weeks, i’ve had about 6 different episodes.
I purposely sleep up against a wall or on my stomach in order not to see figures or things of that nature. When it happens, I wake up and the only muscles I can move is my eye lids. I try and keep my eyelids closed as not to see anything. I am completely conscious during my episodes, but I am just paralyzed. I can eventually force other body parts to wiggle and wake myself up after a long struggle. Typically on nights where I suffer from sleep paralysis, I have more than 1 episode in a night.
Although I have never really met my sleep paralysis demon face to face, I can feel it’s presence in the room during my episodes. I get the feeling of something on top of me, and I get a painful feeling in my chest and spine. I also frequently hear these loud ringing or screeching noises, almost sounds like a stun grenade from Call of Duty. I’ve maybe had 100-150 episodes in my life (I am age 21), and they have all been very consistent. It is never a pleasant experience. Although, I have been able to get used to it and I always realize when it is happening which allows me to stay relatively calm. I dread the day where I ever have to see my sleep paralysis demon face to face.
Sorry for the long comment. Maybe someone out there can relate to my experience.

Now that you mention it I think marijuana does play an effect and I am bearly noticing it now, I remember every since about 5th grade I would always randomly get sleep paralysis it was to the point I was afraid to sleep on my back because I feared I would get it, I have never seen any creepy things I’d just wake up and can’t move, but I thank you for the marijuana comment because I just noticed, I started smoking weed around 10th grade and have not really had a sleep paralysis experience since then maybe once but I have no really had it, I smoked nearly almost every single day and recently I have lost my id and now I can’t get any weed and I have been sober a week pulse and plan to quit and rn I just had a sleep paralysis experience of me trying to wake up and it felt like my spirit was trying to get back into my body from the dream realm and I was half asleep half awake trying to wake myself up, I think marijuana does play a role but I just didn’t know I have sleep paralysis because I’ve been smoking for so long about 8 years, I started in 2016 now it’s 2024 so I have not had much experience of paralysis but I hope I don’t have a problem

I literally had super sleep paralysis 20min ago. I felt that thing like 5 times, yes you read right. They went back to back with hell of a speed. Hard to explain sleep, para, sleep, para over and over again for like 30min.
What I saw, felt and heard.
I heard many strange things for many times. but I see any scary goblins, because I closed my eyes cause. Im not new to these. Im a veteran.
Creepiest thing I heard was when something or someone tried to dig hole through wall from other side. It was in first para.
In last or second last para, I heard person couple meters away breathing. Was lil scary but nah. I dont remeber much from the others, but I remember I couldnt move.
In one fast dream between paras, I stood up and tried to turn on all lights up, but then woke up and found myself in sleep paralysis. This was for sure most random nap i ever had.

I’ve just recently experienced a bad episode of sleep paralysis and my mind was still in a dream like state, which caused me to hear things that obviously weren’t there or real, but visually I was stuck looking at my ceiling when a dark hand reached toward me and in the corner of my right eye there was another figure standing there, which made me freak out mentally. As this is all going on I felt compression in my chest I was trying to say help over and over again, but no words are coming out as it was all in my head, which really made me feel helpless in the moment. I think what caused this sleep paralysis had to do with me being sleep deprived and having a screwed sleep schedule.

      Prayer of protection ✝️
Eternal Father, I offer you the most Precious Blood
of Jesus in expiation of my sins,
for the deliverance of the holy souls in Purgatory
and for the needs of the Holy Church.
May my whole life, united to that of Mary
be offered to the august Trinity with
the most Precious Blood of Jesus,
      in a perpetual Mass.
Christ, the Son of the living God,
      show yourself the defender
      and friend of men saved
      by your Blood.
      Amen.

2:30 LIKE IT??? I have sleep paralysis and it's NOT fun every time I breath it feels like my lungs are gonna explode the only two things I can control are my eyes and my breathing and even my eyes falls asleep from time to time and I feel so scared for no reason when it happens I try to calm myself but my brain only thinks about if I'm gonna die because of how painful it is to breath
