Pretty much sums up why I love John Oliver.
There are so few people in the audience who understand John's humour... But this guy was always a genius.
He’s not a genius, he doesn’t write anything that he says on his current show and his actual Stand up is fairly sub par
It's not the audience's job to understand the jokes. It's the performer's job to understand his audience.
@@vincentfiestada It's not the performer's job to dumb down their material to appeal to the lowest common denominator either. Clearly a lot of people appreciate his humor, and he didn't need to make that compromise to be hugely successful.

In fairness, he used to bomb pretty hard with British audiences, too.

All i hear is the sound of jokes flying over people's heads.
X they only laugh when he says ‘freest nation in the world’ because they feel flattered
I hear people laughing and then people expressing they're smart because only they get the jokes apparently.

@Frank Arrietta No, industrialization and scientific research have led to the positive things about the present state of the world. Imperialism however is the reason why many countries as you said it are "still eating flower and water for dinner and dying from a common cold". I could rattle of at least 50 states still dealing and suffering because of the effects of imperialism or states suffering because of present imperialistic endeavours.
Smart comedy does take a while for a regular person to understand
In the case of John Oliver, it took the American audience several years to enjoy it and to appreciate the greatness of it. And that's ok 🙌

The Dutch language to me or us, if I may say so, looks like something a German person would write, if he was drunk texting.

His best comedy act was in 2016 when he told Trump to run for President.."DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!". lol ...audience laughed hysterically.
Well the audience like him and a lot of other people didn't believe he would ever win. Trump would not have possibly ever cared about what John had to say on the matter regardless so it really made no difference obviously.

Possibly because they realized that they were, in fact, being insulted instead of praised.^^
Aw look how far he’s come since then! And in a relatively short time, mind you. He got his correspondent gig on the Daily Show not long after, filled in for Stewart when he was on long absences, then got his own show and has been cleaning up in awards season ever since.
Conan couldn't even have guessed that this guy will rob away multiple Emmys from him.

I've seen one of these inflatable BBQs! A group of people had various normal inflatable items and they set up to float down a river (that's apparently a thing people do here in Germany now ;) ). And they had this BBQ with them. Mind boggling!
