@@vincentfiestada It's not the performer's job to dumb down their material to appeal to the lowest common denominator either. Clearly a lot of people appreciate his humor, and he didn't need to make that compromise to be hugely successful.
@Frank Arrietta No, industrialization and scientific research have led to the positive things about the present state of the world. Imperialism however is the reason why many countries as you said it are "still eating flower and water for dinner and dying from a common cold". I could rattle of at least 50 states still dealing and suffering because of the effects of imperialism or states suffering because of present imperialistic endeavours.
Smart comedy does take a while for a regular person to understand In the case of John Oliver, it took the American audience several years to enjoy it and to appreciate the greatness of it. And that's ok 🙌
I am from Australia. Technically, it is NOT illegal not to vote. It is illegal not to turn up to the polling station and get your name checked off. Whether you actually vote is up to you. If you don't get your name checked off, the Australian Electoral Commission sends you a fine in the mail. It is about $50.
2:05 As a German-speaker, I agree wholeheartedly. The Dutch language to me or us, if I may say so, looks like something a German person would write, if he was drunk texting.
As a Dutchie, I understand both German and English and am able to make conversation with the both of you. Dutch is just a mix up from German, English and French...it's easy 😉

Want to see even younger John look up him at cambridge. There is even a documentary on youtube with him and Richard Ayode when the were in the footlights!
Aw look how far he’s come since then! And in a relatively short time, mind you. He got his correspondent gig on the Daily Show not long after, filled in for Stewart when he was on long absences, then got his own show and has been cleaning up in awards season ever since.
At least then your more likely to know how your country really feels. Half the people here don't vote just because they think it won't matter, but still complain none the less.
That might be the first (and possibly only) instance in history that a man on American TV in front of an American audience started a sentence with "America is to this day still the greatest..." and not be interrupted by mindless cheers. Possibly because they realized that they were, in fact, being insulted instead of praised.^^
Well the audience like him and a lot of other people didn't believe he would ever win. Trump would not have possibly ever cared about what John had to say on the matter regardless so it really made no difference obviously.
In around fifty years, you will hand it over to China who are waiting like a coiled spring and they will spring towards Armegeddon and that is how the world end... Sorry Spoiler Alert 🧐 I think it's sooner than from fifty years😂😂

Funny enough some of what he says in the sit down segment is part of some of the sets he uses, like the Australia thing. It just happened to pop up in conversation.
"What it lacks in democracy, it makes up for in length."
Pretty much sums up why I love John Oliver.
There are so few people in the audience who understand John's humour... But this guy was always a genius.
He’s not a genius, he doesn’t write anything that he says on his current show and his actual Stand up is fairly sub par
It's not the audience's job to understand the jokes. It's the performer's job to understand his audience.

@Frank Arrietta So you must be his biggest fan then, or does it not work wit the sub-75 IQ crowd?
John Oliver asking too much of an american audience to get jokes with historical context.
In fairness, he used to bomb pretty hard with British audiences, too.
This material was simply too intelligent
uhh fuck you
he was young and naive
only the tourists types who went to conan tapings in the NBC days..
Tough crowd, but Johnny O perseveres and finally gets the laugh he deserves. Brillent.
John Oliver’s armageddon prediction is scarily apt today
It.was.their if.you paid attention SARS pandemic happen in 2003
.....And Now, THIS.
Was looking for this comment 😂
The good Samaritan going "hoo!" at 3:43 really saved him.
Probably that was the warm-up guy.
It's like watching last week tonight with an awkward British Penguin... But in 2009
I love how everyone’s reaction to this is f**k the audience.
All i hear is the sound of jokes flying over people's heads.
X they only laugh when he says ‘freest nation in the world’ because they feel flattered
I hear people laughing and then people expressing they're smart because only they get the jokes apparently.
The sound of "woosh" is a very comfortable sound
There are a bunch of really stupid people in this country.
All I see is the sight of TH-cam commentors congratulating themselves for getting something they should have gotten.
Back when John Oliver look like John Lennon's understudy
Young Oliver
Lol
"I've lived thirty years on this planet, for two I was away...". That's some sweet Johnny O right there!
The audience really doesn't get John's brand of humour
Crazy how fast one can go from obscure to nationally recognized.
@Frank Arrietta what
@Frank Arrietta Man how sad you are. Why click on the vid if you don't like him? And how is imperialism good if most modern societies got rid of it?
@Frank Arrietta Yeah our world is currently in a wonderful place.....

And now John Oliver is the friend that Conan needs!
Most ambitious crossover ever. So happy to see both together. Love to see Coco have him as a guest nowadays. This is great!!!
Oliver's bangs are bangin 😎
And bangable 😏
Morning Sports Wood stop
Rawwwwr!
Awesome comedian.. just walks in and talks down to you with a psycho grin and love in his tummy....
Same energy as today. Hats off
RIP John's Bangs, we really liked you on The Bugle.
Wow, a different character than the one we're used to now. He's a bit more serious, and a slightly more confrontational edge.
A bit emo, even.
Surely amongst The Top 5 Deadest Crowds Ever.
Cause he isn't funny
Conner Broeker bruh
to be fair, the crowd were just 10 drunken australians
i was laughing hard, the imperalism bit about america over britain hahah. I would of been laughing good. throwing tea into the harbour lol.
Young John Oliver could like.... get it...
John looks so young there, baby face 😆
In 12 years he has reached such heights. A guest comic at conan show to beating conan in the emmys
He’s swinging that microphone stand around like it’s a Nimbus 2000.
"...can't go into a museum without feeling guilty..." *me making sad german noises*
I don't think I've laughed this hard for the last 3 months. Thank you John Oliver!
He looks like John Lennon and Bruce Lee had a baby.
And he enrolled at Hogwarts

What?! I just listened to the John Oliver episode on your 'I Need A Friend' podcast. I love Conan!
Thank you for this. I only listened to the Bill Burr Episode.
I typed " john oliver and conan O'Brien " to see what comes up.
Both are my favourites.
2 of my absolute favourites together :)
I'm Dutch and trust me, usually Dutch doesn't make sense to us as well.
I love this man so damn much
This made me realize how heavily HBO must vet Last Week Tonight's live audience
I'm starting to think John's end time predictions are right
Conan couldn't even have guessed that this guy will rob away multiple Emmys from him.
I'm here from the November 10, 2019 episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. It's legendary. This man is a legend. You amazing, amazing man.
