I get the impression that Conan has much more freedom on his current show than he would on a late night staple like The Tonight Show. I imagine he'd have to deal with a lot of network pressure.

@@barneyy6942 NBC basically screwed Conan over so bad they put it in his severance contract he couldn’t talk about it for a year on TV. Basically they gave Conan the Tonight Show, then tried to take it away. So Conan left network TV and went to TBS after his year was up. He also went on an epic tour with the awesome name “Legally Prohibited from being Funny on Television” tour.
Colbert , now after covid, about his hand sanitizer: "Who is laughing now, Conan? Who is laughing now???"

@@Shamsithaca Every flipped interview segment that Colbert does is an improv comedy, right? They never feel like the entire writing staff actually worked on a script and refined all of the jokes. I could be wrong, but Colbert does have an improv comedy background.

@@chrissycox7166 the last person to sit shows control of the interaction its a power move that all host use, the guest usually dont care or notice but between host know too well what it means, and kinda make it an inside joke of it, its always the same in this "crossover" interviews.
He actually baited Steven into just sitting and then Steven realizes Conan stood back up and sit after him.
Conan did that intentionally.. he does a lot of that kinda stuff.. that's why he's the funniest in hosting!

Conan oozes goodness of the heart and humility of the mind. Harvard has paid well. That he is witty, can sing, play and write is bonus. Essentially, he is a good man and that was probably enough to strike good conversations with people for decades. People speak to him with warmth of love and adoration not with awe and fear. PS I absolutely love his music and listening to him when he is more serious.
Harvard didn't make this guy. Harvard was lucky to have him.

Huh. I just thought that was being polite When I have guests over, after I invite them to sit anywhere I don't sit until they sit, and at a restaurant, I don't eat until they've been served even if my food was delivered to the table first. Just common courtesy, in my book. :-)

He didn't get cancelled. He just decided to change his show to a new show on HBO Max. Both HBO Max and TBS are owned by WarnerMedia. Conan is always ahead of others when it comes to identifying trends.

I just watched Conan's video for Harvard, where he speaks of his graduation thesis and experience as an alumni, and it was brilliant. Truly, incredibly smart comedian.
Colbert grew up in improv whereas Conan grew up on standup.

@Eric Burkheimer Steve Allen was the first host of the Tonight franchise and was the first of the late night interviewers. Letterman's show was more of a variety program.
Eric Burkheimer Carson preferred Letterman, NBC preferred Leno - so Carson didn’t skip Letterman, NBC made the call. Carson stayed more loyal to Letterman over the subsequent years.

Flipped interviews are my favorite thing and it always shocks me they end so quickly. When we get to the end it always feels like it just started.
