@@peeyushsharma346 My pleasure. Sir, one question. You mentioned that Anilda did not make the tunes first, he composed tunes after the lyrics were written. I think you mentioned that Madan Mohan had the same process while other MDs (can't recall who) did the reverse, composed the tune first and got the lyrics written later to fit the tune. Could you specify which MDs did it which way if you have that information? It's quite fascinating to know their creative process. Thank you.
@@riyaraj6243 Anil da and Sajjad and Naushad also Ghulam Mohammed for sure made tunes after lyrics were written. Madan Mohan went both ways. OP Nayyar also both ways, but majorly had lyrics first. SD Burman was the one in 1951 who started tune first and then many followed. SJ for sure. RDB for sure. KA and LP went both ways. Jaydev had lyrics first.
@ Thank you, Sir! I was also wondering how much leeway the MDs had when it came to choosing the lyricists or singers? Like you mentioned- SDB always had a singer in mind when he composed and chose that singer but did he always get the creative license to do that or did the producers interfere? I’m also curious about the economics - did the producer make all the money from the music sales? Or did the MD and lyricist get a percentage? Did the producer hire the MD first and based on the music budget did the MD pay the singers/ lyricists or did all the money come direct from the producers? I’m asking because in some stories it’s mentioned that producers would pay the singers and in others that the MD would pay. Thank you and apologies for the questions.
Very interesting episode on Anil Biswas & presentation of beautiful melodious songs from the golden treasure of the great legend. Many vital facts informations were disclosed. His coordination with Rafi sahib was not good as very less songs are heard. I think he was the first to introduce Mahinder Kapoor to sing Heer in one of his movies followed by some songs in Chaar Dil Chaar Rahein. His songs in Devanand movie Aaraam are worthy listening esp the Lata song Man mein kisi ki preet basa le. But it is agonising that he left bollywood early. Zillion salutes to the great legend.

Peeyush ji, thank you for a lovely program and highlighting many, many aspects of Anil Biswas, his contributions as "Pitamah" of vintage hindi film music. We would not be aware if you hadn't. Really his music was exquisite. Personal experiences, anecdotes make it more interesting. It must be a privilage to know such an iconic music director closely. Btw, where will I get to listen to most music in your program ? Can you please share facebook link ? My father especially enjoys it. Look forward to Lata with Anil Biswas episode.

@Peeyush Kishore Kumar could not read notations, true. But he rendered the Anil’s song - Mohabbat ki basti - in Fareb, in true tune. There are two different goners of songs from recorded tapes. One, Rabindra sangeet Ami chini go chini used by Satyajit Ray; the other , classical based song used by RD Burman in the popular Rajesh Khanna . Both from listening to tapes.
What a theme and presentation sir. Kudos. My one slight disappointment is that you skipped the mid 40s and thus the wonderful Parul Ghosh! I am very curious about Hemanta story. Hope you cover it in your series soon.
Sir, thanks a lot for so fast reply. But I think you have explained for kishor's song "paisa ka mantar" and the link shared is for rafi's song "pyar kiya zakh mari". Pl correct me
Correct sir. Talat has said in his concerts that it was initially meant to be a solo and only he rehearsed the song but Lata sitting alongside, became so enamoured with the song she wanted to sing it too. Talat, in a seemingly jocular vein, said she got her way and on the bargain, also took away the meat of the song😊 It was never recorded as a solo.
First, we don't have to believe everything Anil says. Even in private conversations, human beings do not remain true to the fact. Anil had a big ego. Anil Biswas did not take permission from Tagore. Tagore died 13 years before Rahi Matwale came. Even before Rahi Matwale, some of Anil's tunes are typical of Tagore songs. In a Sa Re Ga Ma Pa program, hosted by Sonu Nigam in the mid 1990s, Anil, Naushad, OP all were present. Naushad praised Anil saying that they learned certain things from Anil, OP said that he is not fit to hold a candle to Anil. So, Anil was a pioneer, no doubt in that. But are we giving him more credits than he deserve? I think, we are, in this program. One might doubt that he remain the number one composer in 1944 after Rattan. But there is no doubt that by 1946, Anil was well behind Naushad.
