It's a very beautiful & interesting episode on the great legend Sajjad Hussain. A highly talented composer with vast knowledge of Indian & western classical gave us numerous melodious iconic songs as a legacy for the future generations . His distinctive unique style with Arabic touch was the hallmark of Sajjad Hussain. But his arrogant & acerbic nature came in his way so his repertoire remained very limited. Once on the sets he called Dalip Kumar a spade a spade insulting him badly & Dalip had to eat a humble pie. He named his dog as Naushad becoming talk of the town & detrimental for his career. But was much loss to we music lovers as we remained bereft of more melodious songs from him. But what ever may be he will always be remembered by his fans.

Very enlightening Peeyush ji. I knew very little about Sajjad Hussain except a few popular songs. This episode tells us so much and fills so many gaps.

Peeyushji your presentation filled with great inputs from Arupji was too good .We watched the film Saiyan on You tube a couple of days ago. Some observations.
    The music is superb.
Dances are well choreographed and performed immaculately.
The song Khayaalon mein tum is a dream sequence , Aawara too had a dream sequence. Both released in 1951.
So probably both these films qualify to be the joint first to have dream sequences.

Aap ki badi mehrbani hai jo aapne itna achha programme Sajjad Husain Sahib ke baare pesh kiya. Hum ye music director ko bahut great maante hein Jin ka apna hi alag style tha. Sajjad sahib kabhi kisi ki dhun nakal nahi krte the. Rusme Sohrab mein "ye kaisi ajab dastan ho gyi hai" bhi kamal ka geet hai. Saiyan film ka gana tau kmal hi hai, Kali Kali raat re dill bda staye,Mera favourite song hai aur doosra Ye hawa ye raat ye Chandni of Sangdill (used Sur of Rag Darbari ) beautifully sitar played in this song byUstad Abdul Halim Zaffar. Kehte hein ki OP Nayyar unke bahut fan the. Sajjad sahib ka ek gana film Khel se "Jaate ho tau jao, hum bhi yaha" by Lata ji, hzaar baar suno tau bhi dill nahi bharta. Kya intro music diya hai, kmal hai, mushkil dhun hai, dill ko chhoo jata hai. Vo zuban ke kadve prantu sache insan the. Aaj kal vo kamyab hai jo ha mein ha milaye, jhoothi tareef kre, hus hus ke bole.

so very true Anil ji. He was temperamental. So many stories about him circulate all the time, who knows what is true. But his music stands out and we love every bit of it.

Sajjad scored music for Khel (1950) with songs by G M Durani singing. Perhaps, it would have been nice to recollect in this forum.

sir sajjad hussain played his beautiful mandolin in a 2 telugu films because of the director of the Film the legendary Bapu (who introduced Anil Kapoor and first film in telugu) and the director who made films in Hindi Woh 7 Din and Hum Paanch. the Director was lover of Mehdi Hassan and Sajjad Hussain .Sajjad hussain played his mandolin in background music in certain scences picturised. The Director Bapu was a legendary Painter cartoonist and director who studied Law never practised.this was the bit played in the telugu movie Mutyala Muggu th-cam.com/video/CxVaXnWXmfg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mNW8VM7l3Gbh1Gc- .he worked with music director K V Mahadevan in this telugu movie.

I think Anil's assessment is not right. Probably Anil was not aware of those type of music. Sazzad was influenced by Western and Persian music, and it is evident in his compositions.
