Everyday we be shuffling
I'll die just as little bit happier if I can make a shuffle sound half as good as yours. It's my most lofty goal but I'm on this journey with no clear destination, i just love drumming.
Such a wonderful shuffle video Rob. Love the way these feel and sound. Thanks so much for the post.
The first example is on bassist Stanley Clarke’s first solo album from 1974. None less than Tony Williams play it on the tune Lopsy Lu.
Absolutely right! 👍Recorded again about a decade later, for some reason under the title of "Workin' Man". Gerry Brown kept the pattern and made it his own, too.
Oh, and God Bless Bernard "DON'T WORRY ABOUT THEM GHOST NOTES! AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT REBOUND!" Purdie. :)
Thanks dude!!!
Great lesson as always Rob
Damn that sounds good!
Thanks Rob.
What about the blues shuffles like Texas Shuffle or Chicago Shuffle? Not very common but they are great for the hands and syncopation.
That first one is begging for a herta on the hats. 🙂🥁
Another great video. Thanks!
Excellent!🎉
Very nice thanks rob
I clearly recall where drummers employ something like this in their music. Stewart Copeland, Mick Fleetwood, Steve Gadd, and Greg Bissonette are good examples. I have seen all four of these drummers live. I saw Stewart Copeland live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, a few years ago, playing along to the silent film, Ben Hur. I saw Fleetwood Mac live in Edmonton, around 10 years ago. I saw Greg Bissonette live with Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band, live in Edmonton, in 2015. I saw James Taylor live in Edmonton, in 2016, and Steve Gadd was the drummer.
That is a very fun groove to play.
Another drummer that I also happen to admire is Jerry Ivan Allison, who was the drummer for Buddy Holly & The Crickets. He really did interesting grooves, and I've emulated what he did when I was jamming with other musicians.
It would be cool to see you live. Cheers, Rob! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁🇨🇦
Rob opens with:
"...I mean, why do you even watch me?" 😂
Because we love his vids right
GREAT info! Easy to follow. Really enjoy the, "let me just show you" part right out the gate. Excellent variations. The 6/8 hihat over 4 kicks REALLY opened my eyes to the feel of the phrasing. Awesome lesson and thank you, Mr. Rob 🖒🖒
Best sounding snare drum in any studio! “Ring, sing-sing.”
Had to go back to the story of you first getting this awesome A&F snare drum whilst watching yet another one of your great videos.
My favorite is the second groove starting at 6:00. Incidentally, if anyone wants to practice that groove to a song, check-out Breakdown by Tom Petty.
I feel a lil Bernard Pretty Purdie in these. MMM MMM MMM!!!
Noticed all the approval thumbs are on the up-beat and none on the down beat… well done, well done 👍
Swing shuffle has always been my go to. I still struggle a bit with the ghost accents in a halftime shuffle. What up, Rob, you're the best! ✌🏼
Tasty shuffles Rob, thanks for the ideas. Sounds like great fun.
Rob this is perfect! I've been working on developing my shuffles and you posted this gem. Thanks so much 👍🏽
Love that groove Rob! Thanks from Nashville
Man, beat down. You are smooth as heck, Great groove that you have my friend
That hi-hat sounds sweet!
Nice shuffles, it that hat 15 inch ?
😄
yooo brooo would it be possible to get an update on your thoughts regarding your old go to drum mics - the Avantone CDMK 8???? please and thank you my guy, all the best.
What drum head do you use on your snare?
That’s the stock Coated Ambassador that A&F puts on all their snares. I assume they go with that particular head for a reason so I refuse to replace it.
Great content as always🔥
I'd love to order a shirt, Rob, but you don't have them in my size (4XL).
Badass
Showed me the easy way to tune so I guess the least I can do is buy a shirt.
sounding like Whitney Houston - Im Your Baby Tonight
I thought a Texas Shuffle also included snare in sync with hi-hat? Much like what ZZTop and Chris Layton from SRV do on many of their songs?
Hey rob, how you doing?
Not bad, man. Not bad 🙂
Im still begging for more worship drummer povs
What mics are those on the Tom’s ?🤔
Neumann MCM114. There’s a full review on the channel. Very cool.
Hello. I have a 1970 premeir drum set, four pieces, and I dont know the value of it. Can u help me out?
Bob Marley approves all these patterns
